The interaction between jets and clouds in the 3CR galaxies

From the HST/WFPC2 3CR Snapshot Survey, data taken with the filter F555W, F702W and narrow-ramp, a set of galaxies with noticeable extended structure were selected (e.g. 3C 79, 3C 135, 3C 234, etc). All of these objects show large regions of [OIII] λ 5007˚A emission (narrow ramp filter) and the broad-band filters data show similar structures indicating the presence of strong emission in several lines over these regions. The morphology observed seems to be related (e.g. same position angle, direct overlapping or similar shape) with the radio-jet. For some candidates with these properties GMOS/Gemini spectroscopy was taken. These data (both HST direct imaging and Gemini spectroscopy) can be tested with diagnostic diagrams and total UV photons budget to understand the source of energy that is ionizing the gas. This source of ionization was commonly believed to be the UV photons emitted by the powerful active galactic nuclei (AGN), but several of these objects show clearly that shocks produced by the radio jet are the main cause of the observed gas line emission. We show in this work, the results obtained over some of these radio-galaxies: 3C 135, 3C 180, 3C 234 and 3C 284.Fil: Hägele, G. F.. Taxonomic Study of Non-alkaliphilic Halococci

Ninety-six extremely halophilic, non-alkaliphilic cocci were isolated from several salterns in different geographical areas of Spain. These strains, together with seven reference strains of the genus Halococcus, were characterized by means of 114 phenotypic features, the results being analysed by numerical techniques using the simple matching (SsM) coefficient and the unweighted pair group clustering (UPGMA) algorithm. At the 70% similarity level, four phenons were obtained. Phenon A contained 87 strains, including all the reference strains, and was considered to comprise members of the only named species of the genus Halococcus, H . rnorrhuae. Phenons B and C , which included five and seven strains respectively, showed greater metabolic versatility than phenon A. The four strains belonging to phenon D were significantly different from the other phenons in that they produced acid from glucose and were able to use most of the organic compounds tested. The results indicate that there is phenotypic diversity among the members of the genus Halococcus and that phenon D may constitute a new taxon

Isolation and partial characterization of a plasmid in the extremely halophilic archaebacterium Halococcus morrhuae CCM 537

    Get PDF
The extremely halophilic archaebacterium Halococcus morrhuae CCM 537 was found to contain’’ a plasmid, pHM2, of 6.0 kb. A restriction map was constructed. Southern hybridization of pHM2 DNA to DNA extracted from other Halococcus sp. strains revealed the presence of a similar plasmid in one other strain. A plasmid of Halobacterium trapanicum shared common sequences with pHM2. Other plasmids from halobacteria displayed no homology with pHM2. The characterization of pHM2 may make it useful for the development of cloning vectors for extremely halophilic archaebacteria

In a previous paper we presented the study of the damage suffered by the PV modules after several years of outdoor exposure, relating the loss of power with EVA degradation. In this article we show some results obtained from the characterization of the transparent material constituted by several sheets of capping encapsulating material based on silicone gels in comparison with the decrease of the transmittance by the addition of plastic filters. The characterization of accumulated dust on the surface is also being searched. We can conclude that the loss of power by the degradation of this material is not negligible.Asociación Argentina de Energías Renovables y Medio Ambiente (ASADES

Synthesis and properties of 2′-deoxy-2′,4′-difluoroarabinose-modified nucleic acids

© 2015 American Chemical Society. We report the synthesis, thermal stability, and RNase H substrate activity of 2′-deoxy-2′,4′-difluoroarabino-modified nucleic acids. 2′-Deoxy-2′,4′-difluoroarabinouridine (2,′4′-diF-araU) was prepared in a stereoselective way in six steps from 2′-deoxy-2′-fluoroarabinouridine (2′-F-araU). NMR analysis and quantum mechanical calculations at the nucleoside level reveal that introduction of 4′-fluorine introduces a strong bias toward the North conformation, despite the presence of the 2′-βF, which generally steers the sugar pucker toward the South/East conformation. Incorporation of the novel monomer into DNA results on a neutral to slightly stabilizing thermal effect on DNA-RNA hybrids. Insertion of 2′,4′-diF-araU nucleotides in the DNA strand of a DNA-RNA hybrid decreases the rate of both human and HIV reverse transcriptase-associated RNase H-mediated cleavage of the complement RNA strand compared to that for an all-DNA strand or a DNA strand containing the corresponding 2′-F-araU nucleotide units, consistent with the notion that a 4′-fluorine in 2′-F-araU switches the preferred sugar conformation from DNA-like (South/East) to RNA-like (North).Peer Reviewe

In this paper some of the results obtained from the study of ethylene vinyl acetate degradation, one of the constituents of the transparent PV modules, are presented. The analysis was made on panels mounted twelve years ago and therefore exposed to solar radiation and weathering. In order to analyses their behavior, some tests on the optical and electrical properties of the materials, as well as the changes occurred in their chemical structure, were carried out.Asociación Argentina de Energías Renovables y Medio Ambiente (ASADES
