    Langattoman lähiverkon tietoturva

    Langattomien verkkotekniikoiden hyödyntäminen eri käyttöympäristöissä yleistyy jat-kuvasti. WLAN-verkkojen kehittämisen tarve näkyy kuluttaja- ja yritysympäristöissä. Jatkuvasti lisääntyvät älylaitteiden määrät luovat painetta kehittää tietoturvaa ja stan-dardeja parantamaan verkon toimivuutta. Tämän opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli tutkia langattoman lähiverkon tietoturvaa yleisel-lä tasolla ja testata sen toimivuutta. Työssä käydään läpi yleiset 802.11 standardit, 802.1x ja WIDS/WIPS-järjestelmät yritysverkoissa. Käytännön osuus sisältää langat-toman lähiverkon tukiasemaan kohdistetun hyökkäyksen, jossa tarkoituksena on mur-taa sen WPA2-salaus. Työssä käytettiin kuluttajille suunnattua Netgear WNDR4500-reititintä, jonka ympärille testiympäristö rakennettiin. Testit suoritettiin käyttämällä Kali Linux:n tunkeutumistyö-kaluja. Testissä tukiasemasta pudotettiin asiakas käyttämällä deauth-hyökkäystä ja kaapattiin WPA-kättelyviesti. Talteen otetusta kättelyviestistä selvitettiin salausavain hyödyntäen sanakirjahyökkäystä. Työn tuloksena saatiin selville, mitä vaaditaan riittävään langattoman verkon suojaa-miseen. Testissä todettiin WPA2-salaus riittäväksi, mikäli salausavain on pitkä ja mo-nimutkainen.Utilization of wireless network technologies on different operating environments is becoming increasingly widespread. Constantly increasing number of smart devices will create pressure to develop data security, as well as new standards to improve the functionality of the network The main objective of this study was to examine the wireless LAN security in general, and to test its functionality. The thesis examines the general 802.11 standards, as well as 802.1x and WIDS / WIPS systems in corporate networks. The practical part contains the targeted attack on the access point, where the goal is to break the WPA2 encryption The test environment was built around Netgear WNDR4500 router, which is a basic consumer product. The tests were performed using Kali Linux’s penetration tools. In tests a client was dropped from access point using deauth-attack and hijacked the WPA handshake. The encryption key was recovered from the captured handshake using dictionary attack. As a result it was to find out what is required for the adequate protection of your wire-less network. The tests found out that the WPA2 encryption method is adequate if the encryption key is long and complex enough

    Faecal Cortisol Metabolites as an Indicator of Adrenocortical Activity in Farmed Blue Foxes

    Welfare studies of blue foxes would benefit from a measurement of faecal cortisol metabolites (FCMs) as a non-invasive, physiological stress parameter reflecting hypothalamus–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis activity. Before implementation, a species-specific validation of such a method is required. Therefore, we conducted a physiological validation of an enzyme immunoassay (EIA) to measure FCMs in blue foxes. Twenty individuals (nine males and eleven females) were injected with synthetic adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) and faecal samples were collected every third h for two days. The FCM baseline levels were assessed based on the first sampling day (control period, 144 samples), followed by the ACTH injection and the second day of sampling (treatment period, 122 samples). FCMs were analysed with a 5α-pregnane-3ß,11ß,21-triol-20-one EIA. We compared the estimated mean FCM concentrations of the treatment samples to the baseline average. All samples for the two periods were collected at the same time of the day, which enabled to test the data also with an hourly pairwise comparison. With the two statistical approaches, we tested whether a possible diurnal fluctuation in the FCM concentrations affected the interpretation of the results. Compared to the baseline levels, both approaches showed 2.4–3.2 times higher concentrations on time points sampled 8–14 h after the ACTH injection (p < 0.05). The estimated FCM concentrations also fluctuated slightly within the control period (p < 0.01). Inter-individual variations in FCM levels were marked, which highlights the importance of having a sufficient number of animals in experiments utilising FCMs. The sampling intervals of 3 h enabled forming of informative FCM curves. Taken together, this study proves that FCM analysis with a 5α-pregnane-3ß,11ß,21-triol-20-one EIA is a valid measurement of adrenocortical activity in the farmed blue foxes. Therefore, it can be utilised as a non-invasive stress indicator in future animal welfare studies of the species

    The effect of constitutive representations and structural constituents of ligaments on knee joint mechanics

    Abstract Ligaments provide stability to the human knee joint and play an essential role in restraining motion during daily activities. Compression-tension nonlinearity is a well-known characteristic of ligaments. Moreover, simpler material representations without this feature might give reasonable results because ligaments are primarily in tension during loading. However, the biomechanical role of different constitutive representations and their fibril-reinforced poroelastic properties is unknown. A numerical knee model which considers geometric and material nonlinearities of meniscus and cartilages was applied. Five different constitutive models for the ligaments (spring, elastic, hyperelastic, porohyperelastic, and fibril-reinforced porohyperelastic (FRPHE)) were implemented. Knee joint forces for the models with elastic, hyperelastic and porohyperelastic properties showed similar behavior throughout the stance, while the model with FRPHE properties exhibited lower joint forces during the last 50% of the stance phase. The model with ligaments as springs produced the lowest joint forces at this same stance phase. The results also showed that the fibril network contributed substantially to the knee joint forces, while the nonfibrillar matrix and fluid had small effects. Our results indicate that simpler material models of ligaments with similar properties in compression and tension can be used when the loading is directed primarily along the ligament axis in tension

    Simulation of Subject-Specific Progression of Knee Osteoarthritis and Comparison to Experimental Follow-up Data : Data from the Osteoarthritis Initiative

    Economic costs of osteoarthritis (OA) are considerable. However, there are no clinical tools to predict the progression of OA or guide patients to a correct treatment for preventing OA. We tested the ability of our cartilage degeneration algorithm to predict the subject-specific development of OA and separate groups with different OA levels. The algorithm was able to predict OA progression similarly with the experimental follow-up data and separate subjects with radiographical OA (Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) grade 2 and 3) from healthy subjects (KL0). Maximum degeneration and degenerated volumes within cartilage were significantly higher (p <0.05) in OA compared to healthy subjects, KL3 group showing the highest degeneration values. Presented algorithm shows a great potential to predict subjectspecific progression of knee OA and has a clinical potential by simulating the effect of interventions on the progression of OA, thus helping decision making in an attempt to delay or prevent further OA symptoms.Peer reviewe

    Health-related quality of life in relation to shark symptomatic and radiographic definitions of knee osteoarthritis : data from Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI) 4-year follow- up study

    Background: The purpose was to quantify the decrement in health utility (referred as disutility) associated with knee osteoarthritis (OA) and different symptomatic and radiographic uni- and bilateral definitions of knee OA in a repeated measures design of persons with knee OA or at increased risk of developing knee OA. Methods: Data were obtained from the Osteoarthritis Initiative database. SF-12 health-related quality of life was converted into SF-6D utilities, and were then handled as the health utility loss by subtracting 1.000 from the utility score, yielding a negative value (disutility). Symptomatic OA was defined by radiographic findings (Kellgren-Lawrence, K-L, grade >= 2) and frequent knee pain in the same knee. Radiographic OA was defined by five different definitions (K-L >= 2 unilaterally / bilaterally, or the highest / mean / combination of K-L grades of both knees). Repeated measures generalized estimating equation (GEE) models were used to investigate disutility in relation to these different definitions. Results: Utility decreased with worsening of symptomatic or radiographic status of knee OA. The participants with bilateral and unilateral symptomatic knee OA had 0.03 (p <0.001) and 0.02 (p <0.001) points lower utility scores, respectively, compared with the reference group. The radiographic K-L grade 4 defined as the mean or the highest grade of both knees was related to a decrease of 0.04 (p <0.001) and 0.03 (p <0.001) points in utility scores, respectively, compared to the reference group. Conclusions: Knee OA is associated with diminished health-related quality of life. Health utility can be quantified in relation to both symptomatic and radiographic uni- and bilateral definitions of knee OA, and these definitions are associated with differing disutilities. The performance of symptomatic definition was better, indicating that pain experience is an important factor in knee OA related quality of life.Peer reviewe

    Genetic variation in the hTAS2R38 taste receptor and food consumption among Finnish adults

    Genetic variation in bitter taste receptors, such as hTAS2R38, may affect food preferences and intake. The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between bitter taste receptor haplotypes and the consumption of vegetables, fruits, berries and sweet foods among an adult Finnish population. A cross-sectional design utilizing data from the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns cohort from 2007, which consisted of 1,903 men and women who were 30-45 years of age from five different regions in Finland, was employed. DNA was extracted from blood samples, and hTAS2R38 polymorphisms were determined based on three SNPs (rs713598, rs1726866 and rs10246939). Food consumption was assessed with a validated food frequency questionnaire. The prevalence of the bitter taste-sensitive (PAV/PAV) haplotype was 11.3 % and that of the insensitive (AVI/AVI) haplotype was 39.5 % among this Finnish population. PAV homozygotic women consumed fewer vegetables than did the AVI homozygotic women, 269 g/day (SD 131) versus 301 g/day (SD 187), respectively, p = 0.03 (multivariate ANOVA). Furthermore, the intake of sweet foods was higher among the PAV homozygotes of both genders. Fruit and berry consumption did not differ significantly between the haplotypes in either gender. Individuals perceive foods differently, and this may influence their patterns of food consumption. This study showed that the hTAS2R38 taste receptor gene variation was associated with vegetable and sweet food consumption among adults in a Finnish population.Peer reviewe
