    Metal concentrations in river water and bed sediments of the Lower Litani River Bassin, Lebanon

    The distribution of pollutants in the Litani River is almost severe. It resulted from domestic, sewage, agricultural and industrial sources. In this study, the distribution of metals (Cu, Fe, Cd, Mg, Zn, Pb , Al, Ba, Ni, Mn, Ag and Cr) were measured in river water and the bed sediments of the Lower Litani River Basin (LLRB). The impacts of metals on the water quality were monitored during the rainy, mid rainy and dry season in the year 2012. The objectives of this study were first to identify possible sources of metals (i.e. geological and/or anthropogenic) and then to characterize the chemical behavior of these metals in water and bed sediments. Water and bed load sediments were sampled at six sites along the LLRB main watercourse, The metal concentrations in the river sediments were remarkably high, but varied between different sampling sites, and the concentrations in water were mainly within the permissible limits. The metal contents in bed sediment were highest during closure of summer period. By applying the principal component analysis applied to total and extractable metal contents as a tool for studying metal pollution in the LLRB, it was useful to distinguish between anthropogenic and natural sources

    Physiochemical and Microbial Assessment of Water Quality in the Upper Litani River Basin, Lebanon

    Water resources in Lebanon are witnessing serious challenges and reached depletion. One of the major challenges is the quality deterioration, which is accompanied with uncontrolled resources management, and thus the increasing demand. There are several consumption aspects, mainly the domestic, industrial and irrigation. Yet, exploitation of water resources in Lebanon implies both the surface and groundwater. However, surface water resources are most used due to the ease of exploitation processes, and more certainly water from rivers. Typically, the Litani River is the largest one in Lebanon. The river has been lately subjected to several aspects of deterioration in its quality. This includes the major physiochemical characteristics. This study aims to assess the seasonal variations in water quality in the Upper Litani River Basin, including the Qaraaoun Lake. Samples were collected from particular sites along the river, and at several dates during the years of 2010 and 2011. The carried analysis implies the physical (pH, T°, TDS, Ec), chemicals (Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cl?, SO42?, NH3+, NO3?, PO42?, K+, BOD5 and COD, Heavy metals (Fe, Ni, Zn, Cu, Cr, Al, Ba, Pb, Mn) and microbiological parameters. This resulted numeric data are being compared with WHO guidelines. In addition, PCA was applied to evaluate the data accuracy. We can conclude that the variables used are very efficient and the dry season shows the worst water quality with nitrate, metal and microbial enrichments. Nous présentons les raisons du choix de la RF par rapport aux autres nouvelles technologies du domaine que sont l'optique et la 3D, l'architecture détaillée de ce réseau et d'une puce le mettant en œuvre ainsi que l'évaluation de sa faisabilité et de ses performances. Un des avantages potentiels de ce réseau d'interconnexion RF est la possibilité de faire du broadcast à faible coût, ce qui ouvre de nouvelles perspectives notamment en terme de gestion de la cohérence mémoire

    A young man with aortic prosthetic valve replacement, presented with prolonged fever and diagnosed with brucella endocarditis based on positive transthoracic echo findings with high titer positive brucellacapt serology. He was started on medical treatment with doxycycline and rifampin to which gentamicin and ceftriaxone were added and he was planned for surgical intervention. Unfortunately, the patient developed cardiogenic with septic shock before performing surgery and died within 24 h soon after admission

    Dans cette thèse, nous montrons dans des amas d’oxyde de chrome épitaxiés, la contrainte conduit à l'apparition d'une phase multiferroïques, ainsi qu'un effet magnéto-électrique géant tel que le coefficient ME est de plusieurs ordres de grandeur supérieur que le terme linéaire dans Cr2O3 massif. Cela illustre que des contraintes épitaxiales dans des amas manométriques de taille réduite, crée un nouveau matériau magnéto-électrique ouvrant la possibilité d'utiliser un champ électrique pour orienter l'aimantation du matériau. Le coefficient magnéto-électrique linéaire calculé (6.7ns.m-1) est de trois ordres de grandeur plus élevé que dans l’oxyde de chrome massif (4.17ps.m-1) . Nous avons alors exalter ce coefficient sur des amas d’oxyde de chrome fortement contraintes. Nous avons aussi déclarés une assemblée d’amas n’ont pas seulement super-paramagnétique mais aussi super-paraélectrique.Dans la deuxième partie de notre travail nous avons donc utilisé une méthode d’optique non-linéaire afin d’observer cette polarisation spontanée à la température ambiante.Les mesures du magnéto-transport à température ambiante ne permettent pas d’étudier la polarisation électrique dans le Cr2O3, puisque la magnétorésistance tunnel mesurée à RT est nulle. Nous avons donc cherché une autre méthode la génération de la seconde harmonique qui est une méthode d’optique non linéaire, qui peut donner des informations sur l’état de la polarisation électrique dans un matériau non centrosymétriques. We therefore sought an alternative method of generating the second harmonic which is a nonlinear optical method, which can provide information on the state of the electric polarization in a non- centrosymmetric material. It has been used in our case to determine the super- cluster Cr2O3 paraelectric at room temperature of chromium oxide polarization .Under application of a positive voltage , the variation of the SHG intensity gradually changing to 7 V with 40 % of the reports . We eliminated two major phenomena may induce this change as the influence of capacitive loads or a plasmonic effect , to suggest that this variation is due to the spontaneous polarization is aligned along the applied electric field. The variation of the SHG is observed for an electric field applied in the plane , but it shows instability . We attribute this change in this case an electro- migration in the MgO . we show the SHG variation in function of the voltage for several junctions studied an electric field perpendicular . It can be adjusted by a Langevin function of applied electric field

    Study of genetic mutations and dynamic spread of SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and prediction of its evolution according to the SIR model

    In this work, we aim to study that the dynamics behavior for cumulative number of SARS-CoV-2 pandemic can provide information on the overall behavior of the spread over daily time.The cumulative data can be synthesized in an empirical form obtained from a Susceptible-Infected-Recovered (SIR) model previously studied on a Euclidean network. From the study we carried out, we can conclude that the SIR model on the Euclidean network can reproduce data from several countries with a deviation of precision for given parameter values. This gives an insight into the different agents that influence the behavior of SARS-CoV-2 especially during the virus mutation period. We are thus trying to analyze the effect of genetic mutations in different countries, and how a specific mutation can make the virus more contagious.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figure
