Performance Improvement of QPSK Signal Predetection EGC Diversity Receiver
This paper proposes a modification of quadrature phase-shift-keying (QPSK) signal diversity reception with predetection equal gain combiner (EGC). The EGC combining is realized by using the constant modulus algorithm (CMA). Carrier synchronization is performed by the phase locked loop (PLL). Comparative analysis of the modified and ordinary diversity receiver in the presence of carrier frequency offset in the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel, as well as in Rician fading channel is shown. The proposed diversity receiver allows significant frequency offset compared to the diversity receiver that uses only PLL, and the error probability of the proposed receiver is very close to the error probability of the receiver with only PLL and zero frequency offset. The functionality of the proposed diversity receiver, as well as its properties is experimentally verified on a system based on universal software radio peripheral (USRP) hardware. The performed comparison confirms the expected behavior of the system
Irreducible Representations of Diperiodic Groups
The irreducible representations of all of the 80 diperiodic groups, being the
symmetries of the systems translationally periodical in two directions, are
calculated. To this end, each of these groups is factorized as the product of a
generalized translational group and an axial point group. The results are
presented in the form of the tables, containing the matrices of the irreducible
representations of the generators of the groups. General properties and some
physical applications (degeneracy and topology of the energy bands, selection
rules, etc.) are discussed.Comment: 30 pages, 5 figures, 28 tables, 18 refs, LaTex2.0
Substrate induced proximity effect in superconducting niobium nanofilms
Structural and superconducting properties of high quality Niobium nanofilms
with different thicknesses are investigated on silicon oxide and sapphire
substrates. The role played by the different substrates and the superconducting
properties of the Nb films are discussed based on the defectivity of the films
and on the presence of an interfacial oxide layer between the Nb film and the
substrate. The X-ray absorption spectroscopy is employed to uncover the
structure of the interfacial layer. We show that this interfacial layer leads
to a strong proximity effect, specially in films deposited on a SiO
substrate, altering the superconducting properties of the Nb films. Our results
establish that the critical temperature is determined by an interplay between
quantum-size effects, due to the reduction of the Nb film thicknesses, and
proximity effects
Event anisotropy in 4.2A GeV/c C+C collisions
The directed and elliptic flow of protons and negative pions in 4.2A GeV/c
C+C collisions is studied using the Fourier analysis of azimuthal
distributions. It is found that the protons exhibit pronounced directed flow,
while the flow of pions is either non existent or too weak to be detected
experimentally. Also, it is found that in the entire rapidity interval the
elliptic flow is very small if not zero. These results are confirmed by the
Quark-Gluon-String Model (QGSM) and the relativistic transport model (ART 1.0),
except that these models predict very weak antiflow of pions. The more detailed
comparison with the QGSM suggests that the decay of resonances and rescattering
of secondaries dominantly determine the proton and negative pion flow at this
energy.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, TeX file changed from double to single-spacin
UWB System Performance Improvement Using Smart Interference Rejection Filter
In this paper we proposed a smart interference rejection filter in TH-PPM UWB system, which improves the system\'s error probability for an order of magnitude in case of high power OFDM interference. The smart filter is based on an adaptive transversal filter. Based on the fulfillment of certain conditions, the filter activates or deactivates some parts of it
Effects of Imperfect Reference Signal Recovery on Performance of SC and SSC Receivers over Generalized Fading Channels
This paper presents the study of the effects of imperfect reference signal recovery on the bit error rate (BER) performance of dual-branch switch-and-stay combining (SSC) and multibranch selection combining (SC) receivers in a generalized - fading channel. The average BER of binary and quaternary phase shift keying (BPSK and QPSK) is derived under the assumption that the reference carrier signal is extracted from the received modulated signal. For SSC receiver the optimal switching threshold (in a minimum BER sense) is numerically evaluated. Hereby we determine and discuss the simultaneous influence of the average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) per bit, fading severity, product phase-locked loop (PLL) bandwidthbit duration (B_LT_b), switching threshold of SSC and diversity order of SC on BER performance. The influence of B_LT_b in different channel conditions and modulation formats is pointed out. The numerical results are confirmed by computer simulations
The Effect of Feeding Programmes on Broiler Performance and Production Efficiency
The goal of the paper was to investigate the effect of feeding programmes with different protein levels on broiler performance and production efficiency. The research was conducted on 600 chicks of Cobb-500 and Ross-308 provenience, previously divided into four groups (by feeding treatments).
The groups (treatments) differed in the type of mixture given in the starter period. The feeding programmes were, as follows: T1 (control group) – 23% protein mixture (Day 1 to Day 21); T2 - 23% protein mixture (Day 1 to Day 14), and 20% protein mixture (Day 14 to Day 21); T3 – 23% protein mixture (Day 1 to Day 7), and 20% protein mixture (Day 7 to Day 21); T4 - 20% protein mixture (Day 1 to Day 21). The chicks were given 20% protein mixture from Day 21 to Day 35, and 18% protein mixture from Day 35 to Day 42. A standard technology for chicken fattening was carried out. Production efficiency was determined by observing the ratio of the total cost and total revenue, i.e. profit per chick. From the value of the European Production Efficiency Factor (EPEF), a summary indicator of production results, the authors came to a conclusion that T1 (control) group of the Cobb-500 and Ross-308 chicks had achieved higher EPEF than the experimental groups, whereby the values of T2 group were similar to the values of T1. The highest profit per chick was found for T1 group of Cobb-500 chicks and for T2 group of Ross-308 chicks. The research showed that a drastic protein reduction in the starter period had resulted in negative tendencies in the chicks of the both genotypes. From the aspect of development of more profitable feeding programmes, further research should therefore focus on T2 feeding programme
Effect of Litter Treatment on the Occurrence of Foot Pad Lesions
Pododermatitis (foot pad lesions) is one of the main welfare problems in modern broiler production in countries with developed poultry farming. Factors contributing to the occurrence of these lesions are nutrition, stocking density and material used for litter. There are a number of different procedures that can be applied in order to prevent and reduce the number of lesions with the most pronounced defects. The experiment was conducted on broiler chickens grown in 10 buildings of 240 m2 each. The stocking density was 35 kg/m2. The experiment was set up in five treatments with two replicates. Treatment one (T1) - control with a straw litter, treatment two (T2) - litter treated with microbial preparation Micropan®, treatment three (T3) – litter with addition of lignin, treatment four (T4) – litter with addition of lignin and Micropan® and treatment five (T5) - chopped straw without supplements. At the end of the experiment, on day 42 the intensity of the lesions was scored on the slaughter line. The presence of lesions was scored using scale from 0 (no lesions) to 3 (plantar pads with more than 50% damage). Based on the results of the trial it can be concluded that litter has a significant impact on the presence and the degree of foot pad lesions. The lowest score of foot pad lesions was observed in the treatment T5 (chopped straw). Different treatments of litters may also contribute to the solution of the problem of pododermatitis since the results in all treated groups (T2, T3, T4 and T5) were better when compared to the control
