Ecological aspects of the casque-headed frog Aparasphenodon brunoi (Anura, Hylidae) in a Restinga habitat in southeastern Brazil
We describe some aspects of the ecology of Aparasphenodon brunoi, a species associated with bromeliads. We comment on the relationships of this species with bromeliad size, microhabitat use, diet and sexual dimorphism. This study was conducted on a Restinga habitat near Presidente Kennedy, state of Espírito Santo, southeastern coast of Brazil. When the animals were found inside the bromeliads, we measure bromeliad and head size of frogs. We analyzed stomach contents and determined the sex and reproductive condition. We found 17 individuals (58.6%) in bromeliad leafs, six (20.7%) in Cactaceae, three (10.3%) in liana and three (10.3%) on trunks. The correlation between head measurements and bromeliad size were high, indicating that animals apparently use bromeliads based on their size, which could be related to the minimization of water loss. The most common prey items were beetles, ants, and insect larvae, suggesting that the species is relatively generalist in prey consumption. Aparasphenodon brunoi showed significant sexual size and shape dimorphism with females having larger bodies than males (size) and females having tibia, eye diameter and SVL larger than males (shape), but larger sample size and more detailed ecological and life history data are needed to elucidate the factors that have led to sexual size dimorphism

airborne.cam: a risk calculator of SARS-CoV-2 aerosol transmission under well-mixed ventilation conditions
http://airborne.cam helps users understand how their surroundings and day-to-day behaviour can be adapted in order to minimise the risk of indoors transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The app is based on the well-mixed approach to calculate the individual risk of infection based on the exposure time of a healthy, susceptible individual to infectious long-suspended viral particles indoors. This approach considers that individuals are far apart from each other, that is, there is no risk of short-range transmission either by large or small droplets/aerosols, nor by contact with contaminated surfaces. The basic user can change inputs such as ventilation rate, type of face covering, number of occupants, and type of activity to assess their impact on risk of infection, while more advanced features are available for the user familiar with science concerning aerosol transmission
The use of Visual Implant Fluorescent Elastomer (VIE) for marking Phyllopezus pollicaris lizards (Squamata: Phyllodactylidae)
This study reports the use of Visible Implant Fluorescent Elastomer (VIE) and its efficiency in marking Phyllopezus pollicaris lizards from an area of caatinga in northeastern Brazil. The marking procedure of individuals was conducted from April to September 2012. Forty individuals were marked in the dorsal region with fluorescent colors (red, yellow, green and orange). Twenty lizards were recaptured and showed good retention of the elastomer. Only two specimens presented fragmented marks. The results showed that the use of VIE for tagging and recapture was efficient because of the high retention rate in the individuals recaptured and low fragmentation rate of the marks
Drying and analysis of waste from potatoes, carrots, and chayote for food purposes
Vegetable peels are rarely used in food preparation, causing the loss of several nutrients. Such residues caproduce flour as a possible food source with added nutritional and economic value. Thus, the objective wasto evaluate the nutritional quality and the color of the flours obtained from the peels of potato, carrot, andchayote subjected to drying at the temperatures of 40, 50, 60, and 70 °C, as well as analyzing the dryingkinetics. The peels were removed, packed in an isothermal box with ice, and taken to the laboratory. Thenthey were washed in running water to remove dirt and unwanted parts and sanitized. After this stage, theywere broken into 2 cm lengths. The drying was carried out in 150 g of peels in triplicate for each raw material.Subsequently, nutritional quality, color, and drying models were determined. Flours obtained from drying athigher temperatures showed higher protein content and lower lipid content. The higher the temperature, theshorter the drying time for the flour. All flours presented excellent nutritional quality. Among the models studiedfor potato peels, Wang and Singh, Midilli, and Logarithmic are the most suitable. For chayote and carrot peels, the Midilli model is the most adequate. Using vegetable residues added to food formulations presents itself asan excellent nutritional source, besides adding flavor and texture to foods.Vegetable peels are rarely used in food preparation, causing the loss of several nutrients. Distribution extension of Amphisbaena lumbricalis Vanzolini, 1996 with its first predation record by snake Erythrolamprus viridis (Günther, 1862)
We expand the geographical distribution of Amphisbaena lumbricalis throughout the first record for a semiarid Caatinga area in the Paraíba state, northeastern Brazil. Furthermore, we report the first predation report of A. lumbricalis by the snake Erythrolamprus viridis. Our findings contribute with information about the habitats occupied by a hitherto considered “Data Deficient” species, beyond to reveal the potential of E. viridis to prey upon reptiles.Asociación Herpetológica Argentin
O MARKETING PÚBLICO NO CONTEXTO DA REFORMA GERENCIALISTA DO ESTADO
In the context of managerial changes and proposals for the public administration, the marketing can contribute to the strategic interaction between the state and the citizen. This paper seeks to develop this relationship taking as priority social democratic ideals and presenting the vision of the social-democracy of public management. The goal is to understand how the public marketing can contribute to the consolidation of the proposals of the managerial reform of the state. We understand that the public marketing is an activity in which the needs of society are identified in order to offer or expand services provided by a set of institutions, regardless of who holds the political offices. Thus, the public marketing can help promote citizenship, reduce social inequalities, encourage responsibility, accountability and value the participatory nature of the population. These macro objectives can be addressed through actions aimed at the internal image of the Brazilian public administration, research on needs, desires and interests of the citizens aiming at benefiting the transparency and the control through communication actions, and strengthen the commitment to the public interest through the relationship.
