A dimensão política da educação em línguas

Mestrado em Didáctica das LínguasAs múltiplas interacções comunicativas de um mundo globalizado e tendencialmente hegemónico deverão constituir oportunidades de viver criticamente outras instâncias discursivas, em espelhos que nos contrapõem e questionam a nossa própria formulação identitária, e janelas para outras maneiras de pensar, sentir e viver o mundo. Contrariando a perspectiva funcional ou instrumental das línguas no valor de mercado que adquirem no mundo contemporâneo, é hoje imperativo considerar o seu capital simbólico, profundamente humano, em resposta à “supercomplexidade” da sociedade em que vivemos. O contexto europeu, em particular, no objectivo de realização de uma cidadania democrática definida pela unidade na diversidade, exige um projecto educativo em línguas e culturas que tenha em conta a pluralidade das interacções sócio-comunicativas e o desenvolvimento de competências de interculturalidade e de intercompreensão. O desafio é, aqui, o de assumir a dimensão eminentemente política e ética da educação em línguas e culturas.The multiplicity of communicative interactions taking place in a world of globalisation and of hegemonies are opportunities for us to challenge and live our own and other discursive instances. Otherness will, therefore, be regarded both as a mirror that questions us and our taken for granted identity, as well as a window to other ways of thinking, feeling and living reality. The technocratic and dehumanising concepts of functionality and instrumentality of languages, with their market oriented aims, demand the acknowledgment of the symbolic, and deeply human, capital of languages in facing the “supercomplexity” of today’s world. The European context, in particular, promoting our engagement in the pursuit of a society of intercomprehension and of democratic citizenship defined in unity in diversity, urges us to consider the political and ethical commitments of our endeavours in the development of a project of language and culture education for intercultural being
