UM ESTUDO PRELIMINAR DAS UNIVERSIDADES CORPORATIVAS CATARINENSES
Em um mercado cada vez mais competitivo, a inovação se apresenta como a melhor alternativa para a sobrevivência no mundo empresarial. Para assegurar a inovação constante de processos e produtos, as organizações se convencem que investir na educação de seu ativo mais valioso – o capital humano, é fundamental. Neste contexto, há uma nova forma de educação se propagando pelo meio empresarial, as Universidades Corporativas (UC’s). Estas Instituições oferecem novas competências e habilidades para todos os nÃveis da organização. Assim, visando verificar a realidade das universidades Corporativas Catarinenses, este estudo caracterizou-se como uma pesquisa qualitativa de abordagens exploratória e descritiva. Para tanto, foram analisadas caracterÃsticas de cinco UC’s de companhias catarinenses: Sadia SA (com sede em São Paulo), Fundição Tupy (com sede em Joinville), Datasul (com sede em Joinville), Softway (sede em Florianópolis) e a Tigre (com sede em Joinville). Os resultados da pesquisa indicam que a sobrevivência e a integração do indivÃduo no mercado de trabalho estão ligadas a uma série de fatores que vão desde suas capacidades, habilidades e competências até a sua conscientização de que hoje a aprendizagem é contÃnua. Além disso, constatou-se que a adoção das práticas de Universidades Corporativas deve ser cuidadosa, assim como todo o processo que decorre da sua implantação, pois manter seu conceito demanda montar uma estrutura que ofereça mecanismos de manutenção e fomento de novas competências a todos os seus stakeholders, assim como parcerias com outras instituições de ensino, meio de educação flexÃvel, continuado e alinhado com as estratégias adotadas pela empresa

Development of a Solar Panel Control Strategy for Tracking Maximum Power Generation / Desenvolvimento de uma estratégia de controlo de painéis solares para rastrear a produção máxima de energia
The solar panel is an essential energy conversion component of photovoltaic (PV) systems, an indispensable key for converting clean and sustainable solar energy into electricity. Over the last few years, there has been a growing demand for renewable sources due to sustainable development and global warming. Therefore, this work describes the prototype of an electronic supervision and control system for the orientation of a bench solar panel. The developed tracker prototype has as its core an electronic circuit based on a commercial microcontroller model Tennsy 3.0, within which the control algorithm is embedded. In addition to the controller, a supervisory software was developed to monitor solar cells’ status in real-time. The supervisory showed the angle of the solar plate and values of luminosity and acquired power. Simulations results were presented to show that the amount of energy generated can  reach 37 %.

Modeling Kinetics during Acute Lung Injury: Experimental Data and Estimation Errors
Background: There is increasing interest in Positron Emission Tomography (PET) of 2-deoxy-2-[18F]flouro-D-glucose () to evaluate pulmonary inflammation during acute lung injury (ALI). We assessed the effect of extra-vascular lung water on estimates of -kinetics parameters in experimental and simulated data using the Patlak and Sokoloff methods, and our recently proposed four-compartment model. Methodology/Principal Findings Eleven sheep underwent unilateral lung lavage and 4 h mechanical ventilation. Five sheep received intravenous endotoxin (10 ng/kg/min). Dynamic PET was performed at the end of the 4 h period. net uptake rate (Ki), phosphorylation rate (k3), and volume of distribution (Fe) were estimated in three isogravitational regions for each method. Simulations of normal and ALI -kinetics were conducted to study the dependence of estimated parameters on the transport rate constants to (k5) and from (k6) the extra-vascular extra-cellular compartment. The four-compartment model described 85.7% of the studied -kinetics better than the Sokoloff model. Relative to the four-compartment model the Sokoloff model exhibited a consistent positive bias in Ki (3.32 [1.30–5.65] 10−4/min, p<0.001) and showed inaccurate estimates of the parameters composing Ki (k3 and Fe), even when Ki was similar for those methods. In simulations, errors in estimates of Ki due to the extra-vascular extra-cellular compartment depended on both k5 and k5/k6, with errors for the Patlak and Sokoloff methods of 0.02 [−0.01–0.18] and 0.40 [0.18–0.60] 10−3/min for normal lungs and of −0.47 [−0.89–0.72] and 2.35 [0.85–3.68] 10−3/min in ALI. Conclusions/Significance: accumulation in lung extra-vascular fluid, which is commonly increased during lung injury, can result in substantial estimation errors using the traditional Patlak and Sokoloff methods. These errors depend on the extra-vascular extra-cellular compartment volume and its transport rates with other compartments. The four-compartment model provides more accurate quantification of -kinetics than those methods in the presence of increased extra-vascular fluid
Iron, copper and manganese complexes with in vitro superoxide dismutase and/or catalase activities that keep Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells alive under severe oxidative stress
Due to their aerobic lifestyle, eukaryotic organisms have evolved different strategies to overcome oxidative stress. The recruitment of some specific metalloenzymes such as superoxide dismutases (SODs) and catalases (CATs) is of great importance for eliminating harmful reactive oxygen species (hydrogen peroxide and superoxide anion). Using the ligand HPCINOL {1-[bis(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)amino]-3-chloropropan-2-ol}, we have synthesized three coordination compounds containing iron(III), copper(II), and manganese(II) ions, which are also present in the active site of the above-noted metalloenzymes. These compounds were evaluated as SOD and CAT mimetics. The manganese and iron compounds showed both SOD and CAT activities, while copper showed only SOD activity. The copper and manganese in vitro SOD activities are very similar (IC50 similar to 0.4 mu mol dm(-3)) and about 70-fold higher than those of iron. The manganese compound showed CAT activity higher than that of the iron species. Analyzing their capacity to protect Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells against oxidative stress (H2O2 and the O-2(center dot-) radical), we observed that all compounds act as antioxidants, increasing the resistance of yeast cells mainly due to a reduction of lipid oxidation. Especially for the iron compound, the data indicate complete protection when wild-type cells were exposed to H2O2 or O-2(center dot-) species. Interestingly, these compounds also compensate for both superoxide dismutase and catalase deficiencies; their antioxidant activity is metal ion dependent, in the order iron(III) > copper(II) > manganese(II). The protection mechanism employed by the complexes proved to be independent of the activation of transcription factors (such as Yap1, Hsf1, Msn2/Msn4) and protein synthesis. Performance of organically grown tomato cultivars under greenhouse conditions
A agricultura orgânica no Brasil cresce a taxas superiores a 30% ao ano, devido principalmente à maior conscientização dos consumidores que buscam alimentos saudáveis, livres de resÃduos quÃmicos e biológicos. Dentre as hortaliças cultivadas em sistema orgânico, o tomate constitui grande desafio para os produtores devido à inexistência de recomendações de manejo cultural e de cultivares desenvolvidas especÃficas para esse sistema de cultivo. Diante disso, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o desempenho de cultivares de tomate sob sistema orgânico, em ambiente protegido. O experimento foi conduzido de maio a outubro de 2004 em campo, no municÃpio de Araraquara-SP. O delineamento experimental adotado foi blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições e oito tratamentos (cultivares Avalon, Colibri, HTX-5415, HTX-8027, Sahel, San Marzano, San Vito e Jane). As plantas foram conduzidas em fileiras duplas, com duas hastes por planta no espaçamento de 0,8 m entre linhas e 0,6 m entre plantas (cerca de 20.000 plantas ha-1), sem poda apical. O hÃbrido Sahel destacou-se com o melhor desempenho para rendimento comercial. A traça-do-tomateiro se revelou como fator limitante à produção de tomate em sistema orgânico, sendo responsável, em média, por 17% de danos nos frutos colhidos das oito cultivares que foram avaliadas.Organic agriculture in Brazil has been increasing about 30% per year over the last few years, since consumers are seeking for healthier foods, i.e. nutritious and free of pesticide residues. Among organically grown vegetable crops, tomato is an attractive economic opportunity for growers. However, the lack of information about management practices and adapted cultivars to organic production systems under protected cultivation are pointed out as important constraints that prevents this activity to expand. This work aimed at evaluating the performance of indeterminate tomato cultivars in organic management systems in unheated plastic greenhouse. In both experiments tomato plants were staked. Plant spacing was 1.5 m between rows and 0.35 m between plants. They were planted in double line and spaced 0.8 m between lines and 0.6 m between plants (about 20,000 plants ha-1). The experiment was set up in a randomized complete block design, with four replications and eight treatments (cultivars: Avalon, Colibri, HTX-5415, HTX-8027, Sahel, San Marzano, San Vito, and Jane). Sahel hybrid exhibited an outstanding performance for marketable yield under organic cultivation. Tomato pinworm (Tuta absoluta) was a serious limiting pest for organically grown tomatoes, responding for 17% of damage in the fruits harvested from the evaluated cultivars
