Ontology-based Information Extraction with SOBA
In this paper we describe SOBA, a sub-component of the SmartWeb multi-modal dialog system. SOBA is a component for ontologybased information extraction from soccer web pages for automatic population of a knowledge base that can be used for domainspecific question answering. SOBA realizes a tight connection between the ontology, knowledge base and the information extraction component. The originality of SOBA is in the fact that it extracts information from heterogeneous sources such as tabular structures, text and image captions in a semantically integrated way. In particular, it stores extracted information in a knowledge base, and in turn uses the knowledge base to interpret and link newly extracted information with respect to already existing entities
THz conductivity of SrCaRuO
We investigate the optical conductivity of SrCaRuO across the
ferromagnetic to paramagnetic transition that occurs at . The thin films
were grown by metalorganic aerosol deposition with onto
NdGaO substrates. We performed THz frequency domain spectroscopy in a
frequency range from 3~cm to 40~cm (100~GHz to 1.4~THz) and at
temperatures ranging from 5~K to 300~K, measuring transmittivity and phase
shift through the films. From this we obtained real and imaginary parts of the
optical conductivity. The end-members, ferromagnetic SrRuO and paramagnetic
CaRuO, show a strongly frequency-dependent metallic response at
temperatures below 20~K. Due to the high quality of these samples we can access
pronounced intrinsic electronic contributions to the optical scattering rate,
which at 1.4~THz exceeds the residual scattering rate by more than a factor of
three. Deviations from a Drude response start at about 0.7~THz for both
end-members in a remarkably similar way. For the intermediate members a higher
residual scattering originating in the compositional disorder leads to a
featureless optical response, instead. The relevance of low-lying interband
transitions is addressed by a calculation of the optical conductivity within
density functional theory in the local density approximation (LDA)
Privacy Friendly Apps-Making Developers Aware of Privacy Violations
Android devices are widely used on a daily basis. As those devices can open doors for attackers and companies to privacy sensitive data, developers have to be aware of potential risks. We introduce the project of Privacy Friendly Apps, explain its design principles and describe some of its resulted apps. The long-term goal of this project is twofold: (1) raise awareness of developers regarding potential privacy violations posed through unnecessarily overprivileged apps; (2) compile a list of common errors and mistakes that lead to unintended privacy violations
How Much Am I Expected to Pay for My Parents’ Firm? An Institutional Logics Perspective on Family Discounts
Recent evidence suggests that successors do not simply inherit their parents' firm, but have to pay a certain price. Building on institutional logics literature, we explore successors' family discount expectations, defined as the rebate expected from parents in comparison to nonfamily buyers when assuming control of the firm. We find that family cohesion increases discount expectations, while successors' fear of failure and family equity stake in the firm decrease discount expectations. Workload patterns of fast charging stations along the German Autobahn
We analyze daily charging demand patterns of electric vehicles at DC fast charging stations along the
German autobahn for an average week in 2020. For this we develop an agent based simulation tool based
on current empirical mobility data. Our results show that already in 2020 about 1,000 charging processes
per charging location and day might be realistic. In order to avoid long waiting times these charging
locations should be equipped with about 20 charging points. A utilization rate of up to 80% makes a
profitable operation of these stations highly probable. A sensitivity analysis indicates main parameters
which influence the throughput of electric vehicles significantly
Generating and visualizing a soccer knowledge base
This demo abstract describes the SmartWeb Ontology-based Information Extraction System (SOBIE). A key feature of SOBIE is that all information is extracted and stored with respect to the SmartWeb ontology. In this way, other components of the systems, which use the same ontology, can access this information in a straightforward way. We will show how information extracted by SOBIE is visualized within its original context, thus enhancing the browsing experience of the end user
Falls during oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy for gastrointestinal malignancies : (lessons learned from) a prospective study
This prospective cohort study aimed to characterise the impact of oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy and its neurotoxic side effects (i.e., chemotherapy-induced neuropathy) on functional fall-risk and falls. Twenty chemotherapy-naïve participants (mean age, 59 years; 16 males) were consecutively included. A multimodal fall risk assessment was performed at four time points within 6 months. Polyneuropathy was assessed using the Neurologic Disability Scale; the fall risk was assessed by functional tests (Tinetti Test, Chair-Rising Test, and Timed up and Go Test). Patient-reported outcomes comprised the Hospitality Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), the Falls Efficacy Scale – International (FES-I) to assess the fear of falling, and the Physical Activity for the Elderly (PASE) questionnaire. Three falls occurred during the study. All fallen participants had a high fall risk-index (≥4 more risk factors) compared to only 30% of the non-fallen participants (p = 0.03) and suffered more frequently from pre-existing mild polyneuropathy (p = 0.049). Study discontinuation (n = 12) was associated with a higher rate of polypharmacy (p = 0.045), anxiety (HADS-A, p = 0.03), and specific fear of falling (FES-I, p = 0.025). In contrast, study completers (n = 8) reported an improvement in physical activity (PASE) (p = 0.018). In summary, pre-existing fall-risk factors impacted more falls than chemotherapy. A fall risk index offers a time-efficient screening option in an outpatient oncological setting
Vision: Towards Fully Shoulder-Surfing Resistant and Usable Authentication for Virtual Reality
Virtual reality (VR) is a growing technology with social, gaming and commercial applications. Due to the sensitive data involved, these systems require secure authentication. Shoulder-surfing, in particular, poses a significant threat as (1) interaction is mostly performed by means of visible gestures and (2) wearing the glasses prevents noticing bystanders. In this paper, we analyze research proposing shoulder-surfing resistant schemes for VR and present new shoulder-surfing resistant authentication schemes. Furthermore, we conducted a user study and found authenticating with our proposed schemes is efficient with times as low as 5.1 seconds. This is faster than previous shoulder-surfing resistant VR schemes, while offering similar user satisfaction
Usable Verifiable Secrecy-Preserving E-Voting
In this paper we propose the usage of QR-Codes to enable
usable veriable e-voting schemes based on code voting. The idea { from a
voter\u27s perspective { is to combine code voting proposed by Chaum with
the cast-as-intended verication mechanism used e.g. in Switzerland (using
a personal initialization code, return codes per option, a conrmation code
and a nalisation code); while all codes to be entered into the e-voting
system by voters are available as QR-Code (i.e. one personalised QR
voting code per voting option and one personal conrmation QR-Code).
We conduct a user study to evaluate the usability and user experience
of such an approach: both the code sheets and the election webpage are
based on usability research in this area but adopted for our idea. As
our proposal performs good wrt. usability, we discuss how such usable
front-ends enable more secure e-voting systems in respect to end-to-end
veriability and vote secrecy
I (don\u27t) see what you typed there! Shoulder-surfing resistant password entry on gamepads
Using gamepad-driven devices like games consoles is an activity frequently shared with others. Thus, shoulder-surfing is a serious threat. To address this threat, we present the first investigation of shoulder-surfing resistant text password entry on gamepads by (1) identifying the requirements of this context; (2) assessing whether shoulder-surfing resistant authentication schemes proposed in non-gamepad contexts can be viably adapted to meet these requirements; (3) proposing ``Colorwheels\u27\u27, a novel shoulder-surfing resistant authentication scheme specifically geared towards this context; (4) using two different methodologies proposed in the literature for evaluating shoulder-surfing resistance to compare ``Colorwheels\u27\u27, on-screen keyboards (the de facto standard in this context), and an existing shoulder-surfing resistant scheme which we identified during our assessment and adapted for the gamepad context; (5) evaluating all three schemes regarding their usability. Having applied different methodologies to measure shoulder-surfing resistance, we discuss their strengths and pitfalls and derive recommendations for future research
