Application of remote sensing techniques to hydrography with emphasis on bathymetry

    Get PDF
Remote sensing techniques are utilized for the determination of hydrographic characteristics, with emphasis in bathymetry. Two sensor systems were utilized: the Metric Camera Wild RC-10 and the Multispectral Scanner of LANDSAT Satellite (MSS-LANDSAT). From photographs of the metric camera, data of photographic density of points with known depth are obtained. A correlation between the variables density x depth is calculated through a regression straight line. From this line, the depth of points with known photographic density is determined. The LANDSAT MSS images are interpreted automatically in the Iterative Multispectral Analysis System (I-100) with the obtention of point subareas with the same gray level. With some simplifications done, it is assumed that the depth of a point is directly related with its gray level. Subareas with points of the same depth are then determined and isobathymetric curves are drawn. The coast line is obtained through the sensor systems already mentioned. Advantages and limitations of the techniques and of the sensor systems utilized are discussed and the results are compared with ground truth

Analysis of renal excretory system integrity and efficacy of radiofrequency ablation with and without irrigation with saline at 2 o C (SF2). The median third of sixteen kidneys were submitted to radiofrequency (exposition of 1 cm) controlled by intra-surgical ultrasound, with eight minutes cycles and median temperature of 90 o C in eight female pigs. One excretory renal system was cooled with SF2, at a 30ml/min rate, and the other kidney was not. After 14 days of post-operatory, the biggest diameters of the lesions and the radiological aspects of the excretory system were compared by bilateral ascending pyelogram and the animals were sacrificed in order to perform histological analysis. There were no significant differences between the diameters of the kidney lesions whether or not exposed to cooling of the excretory system. Median diameter of the cooled kidneys and not cooled kidneys were respectively (in mm): anteroposterior: 11.46 vs. 12.5 (p = 0.23); longitudinal: 17.94 vs. 18.84 (p = 0.62); depth: 11.38 vs. 12.25 (p = 0.47). There was no lesion of the excretory system or signs of leakage of contrast media or hydronephrosis at ascending pyelogram. Cooling of excretory system during radiofrequency ablation does not significantly alter generated coagulation necrosis or affect the integrity of the excretory system in the studied model401939

In the context of the link between the IPB - Mountain Arts Laboratory - Graça Morais (LAM-GM) and the Graça Morais Center for Contemporary Art (CACGM), it has been developed a co-creation process that simultaneously promotes a creative, critical and innovative formation of the students involved, develops a shared process between the institutions and seeks to solve common challenges, such as an effective connection between IPB and CACGM, fostering new interactions with the community. The co-creation process is quite engaging and demanding, as comprehends four courses of four different degrees, involving an undergraduate degree and three bachelor degrees, in a total of 185 students. Within the scope of the curricular units, technical and artistic skills are developed, creating new artistic outcomes, developed mainly from and with drawings and paintings of Graça Morais, the painter herself, the building that encompasses her exhibitions and the works of other artists that have being exhibiting their work at CACGM. This partner institution is a committed team member, in its renown sphere of competences, providing specific knowledge, experience and expertise, fostering four different artistic approaches: Documentary - In a project-based learning environment and interconnected with the Graça Morais Center for Contemporary Art, a group of students enrolled in the Documentary course of the 3rd year of the degree in Communication and Journalism, divided by small teams, is producing short films. documentaries, about the life, work or themes of Graça Morais. The expected average duration of each short is 10 minutes. Drawing - Students from the degree of Art & Design and the undergraduate degree of Illustration and Graphic Art are developing an individual artist book created from the connection and inspiration students developed with Graça Morais, her work, and Graça Morais Center for Contemporary Art. Music - A co-creation experiment is being carried out in which the artistic objects contained in the exhibition serve as a basic source for developing an artistic-pedagogical process. The goal is to give sound life to pre-established sense units through the application and experimentation and techniques of musical production analysis. Photography - Based on the work of painter Graça Morais, the artist herself and texts that address her, the students are developing their own photographic interpretations. In the In2CoP Conference we wish to share the process this co-creation developed, to show the artistic outcomes, to connect effectively our student’s formation and outcomes with the community and to contribute to a reflection on creative processes of co-creation.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

This paper presents an IEEE 802.11p full-stack prototype implementation to data exchange among vehicles and between vehicles and the roadway infrastructures. The prototype architecture is based on FPGAs for Intermediate Frequency (IF) and base band purposes, using 802.11a based transceivers for RF interfaces. Power amplifiers were also addressed, by using commercial and in-house solutions. This implementation aims to provide technical solutions for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) field, namely for tolling and traffic management related services, in order to promote safety, mobility and driving comfort through the dynamic and real-time cooperation among vehicles and/or between vehicles and infrastructures. The performance of the proposed scheme is tested under realistic urban and suburban driving conditions. Preliminary results are promising, since they comply with most of the 802.11p standard requirements

    Retaining Expression on De-identified Faces

© Springer International Publishing AG 2017The extensive use of video surveillance along with advances in face recognition has ignited concerns about the privacy of the people identifiable in the recorded documents. A face de-identification algorithm, named k-Same, has been proposed by prior research and guarantees to thwart face recognition software. However, like many previous attempts in face de-identification, kSame fails to preserve the utility such as gender and expression of the original data. To overcome this, a new algorithm is proposed here to preserve data utility as well as protect privacy. In terms of utility preservation, this new algorithm is capable of preserving not only the category of the facial expression (e.g., happy or sad) but also the intensity of the expression. This new algorithm for face de-identification possesses a great potential especially with real-world images and videos as each facial expression in real life is a continuous motion consisting of images of the same expression with various degrees of intensity.Peer reviewe

The authors report a rare case of a 48-year-old male with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) who initially presented with a bilateral proliferative retinopathy. The patient complained of recent visual loss and floaters in both eyes (BE). Ophthalmologic evaluation revealed a best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) of 20/50 in the right eye and 20/200 in the left eye (LE). Fundoscopy showed the presence of bilateral peripheral capillary dropout with multiple retinal sea fan neovascularisations, which were confirmed on fluorescein angiography. Full blood count revealed hyperleukocytosis, thrombocytosis, anemia, and hyperuricemia. Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy showed the reciprocal chromosomal translocation t (9;22), diagnostic of CML. The patient was started on hydroxyurea, allopurinol and imatinib mesylate. He received bilateral panretinal laser photocoagulation and a vitrectomy was performed in the LE. The patient has been in complete hematologic, cytogenetic, and major molecular remission while on imatinib and his BCVA is 20/25 in BE
