    Dentro de la asignatura Enfermería de Adulto III hay un contenido denominado “Cuidados de enfermería en el adulto con problemas en la eliminación urinaria y digestiva”. El cuidado del estoma digestivo es una intervención principalmente de enfermería, por lo tanto, su formación y capacitación en este campo es imprescindible para garantizar la autonomía en los pacientes con estoma digestivo. Así pues, se hace necesaria la búsqueda y el establecimiento de las mejores prácticas pedagógicas para mejorar el aprendizaje y potenciar la formación de los alumnos de Grado en Enfermería para un desempeño autónomo y pertinente a las demandas sociales vinculadas al autocuidado de los pacientes con estoma digestivo. Por esta razón se elabora el presente proyecto, cuyo objetivo principal consiste en implementar las metodologías activas (MA) como estrategia didáctica para mejorar el nivel de enseñanza/aprendizaje en los estudiantes de Grado en Enfermería en el abordaje de las personas con estoma digestivo y analizar si estas metodologías mejoran su aprendizaje. Dentro de la gran variedad de métodos de aprendizaje activo, se ha seleccionado el Flipped Classroom (aula invertida), la Gamificación y la Realidad Virtual. El interés en estas MA se debe a su carácter innovador y por estar en pleno apogeo didáctico, además de los resultados relevantes mostrados en diferentes acciones formativas y los múltiples beneficios para el desarrollo del aprendizaje del alumno. Para alcanzar los objetivos propuestos, se organizará un seminario que se impartirá en los Campus Universitarios de Ceuta, Melilla y Granada. En una primera sesión se presentará el proyecto a los docentes encargados de la asignatura y se tendrá una primera toma de contacto con los alumnos, explicándoles cómo se va a desarrollar la acción formativa, así como la posibilidad de otorgar o no su consentimiento de participación. Tras finalizar la experiencia se llevará a cabo la evaluación de los resultados obtenidos, así como el impacto que han tenido las sesiones en los estudiantes a través de una encuesta de satisfacción

    A novel cold-inducible gene from Arabidopsis, RCI3, encodes a peroxidase that constitutes a component for stress tolerance

    A cDNA from Arabidopsis corresponding to a new cold-inducible gene, RCI3 (for Rare Cold Inducible gene 3), was isolated. Isoelectric focusing electrophoresis and staining of peroxidase activity demonstrated that RCI3 encodes an active cationic peroxidase. RNA-blot analysis revealed that RCI3 expression in response to low temperature is negatively regulated by light, as RCI3 transcripts were exclusively detected in etiolated seedlings and roots of adult plants. RCI3 expression was also induced in etiolated seedlings, but not in roots, exposed to dehydration, salt stress or ABA, indicating that it is subjected to a complex regulation through different signaling pathways. Analysis of transgenic plants containing RCI3::GUS fusions established that this regulation occurs at the transcriptional level during plant development, and that cold-induced RCI3 expression in roots is mainly restricted to the endodermis. Plants overexpressing RCI3 showed an increase in dehydration and salt tolerance, while antisense suppression of RCI3 expression gave dehydration- and salt-sensitive phenotypes. These results indicate that RCI3 is involved in the tolerance to both stresses in Arabidopsis, and illustrate that manipulation of RCI3 has a potential with regard to plant improvement of stress tolerance

    Adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AdMSC) for the treatment of secondary-progressive multiple sclerosis: A triple blinded, placebo controlled, randomized phase I/II safety and feasibility study

    [Background] Currently available treatments for secondary progressive multiple sclerosis(SPMS) have limited efficacy and/or safety concerns. Adipose-mesenchymal derived stem cells(AdMSCs) represent a promising option and can be readily obtained using minimally invasive procedures.[Patients and methods] In this triple-blind, placebo-controlled study, cell samples were obtained from consenting patients by lipectomy and subsequently expanded. Patients were randomized to a single infusion of placebo, low-dose(1x106cells/kg) or high-dose(4x106cells/kg) autologous AdMSC product and followed for 12 months. Safety was monitored recording adverse events, laboratory parameters, vital signs and spirometry. Expanded disability status score (EDSS), magnetic-resonance-imaging, and other measures of possible treatment effects were also recorded.[Results] Thirty-four patients underwent lipectomy for AdMSCs collection, were randomized and thirty were infused (11 placebo, 10 low-dose and 9 high-dose); 4 randomized patients were not infused because of karyotype abnormalities in the cell product. Only one serious adverse event was observed in the treatment arms (urinary infection, considered not related to study treatment). No other safety parameters showed changes. Measures of treatment effect showed an inconclusive trend of efficacy.[Conclusion] Infusion of autologous AdMSCs is safe and feasible in patients with SPMS.     Functional characterization of NK cells in Mexican pediatric patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia: Report from the Mexican Interinstitutional Group for the Identification of the Causes of Childhood Leukemia.

    Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common cancer in children around the globe. Mexico City has one of the highest incidence rates of childhood leukemia worldwide with 49.5 cases per million children under the age of 15 which is similar to that reported for Hispanic populations living in the United States. In addition, it has been noted a dismal prognosis in Mexican and Hispanic ALL pediatric population. Although ALL, like cancer in general, has its origins in endogenous, exogenous, and genetic factors, several studies have shown that the immune system also plays a deterministic role in cancer development. Among various elements of the immune system, T lymphocytes and NK cells seem to dominate the immune response against leukemia. The aim of the present study was to perform a phenotypic and functional characterization of NK cells in ALL Mexican children at the moment of diagnosis and before treatment initiation. A case-control study was conducted by the Mexican Interinstitutional Group for the Identification of the Causes of Childhood Leukemia (MIGICCL). 41 cases were incident ALL children younger than 17 years old and residents of Mexico City. 14 controls were children without leukemia, matched by age and sex with cases. NK cell function was evaluated by degranulation assays towards K562 cells and SLAM-associated protein (SAP) expression was measured by intracellular staining. All assays were performed using peripheral blood mononuclear cells from controls and patients. The results indicate that NK mediated cytotoxicity, measured by CD107a degranulation assays in response to K562 cells, was reduced in ALL patients compared to controls. Interestingly, an impaired NK cell killing of target cells was not equally distributed among ALL patients. In contrast to patients classified as high-risk, standard-risk patients did not display a significant reduction in NK cell-mediated cytotoxicity. Moreover, patients presenting a leukocyte count ≥ 50,000xmm3 displayed a reduction in NK-cell mediated cytotoxicity and a reduction in SAP expression, indicating a positive correlation between a reduced SAP expression and an impaired NK cell-mediated citotoxicity. In the present study it was observed that unlike patients with standard-risk, NK cells from children presenting high-risk ALL, harbor an impaired cytotoxicity towards K562 at diagnosis. In addition, NK cell function was observed to be compromised in patients with a leukocyte count ≥50,000xmm3, where also it was noticed a decreased expression of SAP compared to patients with a leukocyte count <50,000xmm3. These data indicate NK cell-mediated cytotoxicity is not equally affected in ALL patients, nevertheless a positive correlation between low SAP expression and decreased NK cell-mediated cytotoxicity was observed in ALL patients with a leukocyte count ≥50,000xmm3. Finally, an abnormal NK cell-mediated cytotoxicity may represent a prognostic factor for high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia
