Presynchronization of estrous cycles in dairy cows before ovsynch + CIDR and resynchronization of repeat estrus using the CIDR
Postpartum anestrus is one of the major limitations to achieving acceptable pregnancy rates. The Ovsynch protocol is an excellent tool to improve reproductive efficiency of dairy cows because it can induce estrous cycles in anestrous cows. In the first experiment, administering two PGF2 injections to lactating dairy cows 14 days apart with the second injection given 12 days before the Ovsynch protocol increased (P\u3c0.05) pregnancy rate by 10 percentage points in cycling and noncycling cows. Inserting a progesterone-releasing insert (CIDR) for 7 days during the Ovsynch protocol did not further increase pregnancy rates. In a second experiment, a resynchronization treatment consisting of a used CIDR inserted for 7 days from days 13 to 20 after insemination increased (P\u3c0.05) embryo survival from day 30 to 58 by 11 percentage points but failed to increase overall rate of return to estrus and conception rate at the second AI (first eligible estrus after first AI).; Dairy Day, 2001, Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS, 2001
Identification and Functional Distribution of Intracellular Ca2+ Channels in Mouse Lacrimal Gland Acinar Cells
We have determined the presence and cellular distribution of intracellular calcium channels, inositol 1, 4, 5-trisphosphate receptors (IP3Rs) and ryanodine receptors (RyRs) in adult and postnatal (P10) lacrimal gland acinar cells. Western blot analysis of both P10 cultures and adult tissue identified the presence of each IP3R and RyR isotypes. The immunocytochemistry analysis showed a differential cellular distribution of these calcium channels where the nuclear envelope, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and Golgi apparatus membranes represent areas with highest levels of channel expression. This IP3R and RyR isotype distribution is confirmed by the immuno-EM results. The findings described in this study are in agreement with published pharmacological data that shows the participation of these channels in the secretion process of the lacrimal gland acinar cells. Furthermore, the differential subcellular distribution between the isoforms could indicate a potential role of these intracellular Ca2+ channels on the regulation of specific cellular functions

Dyons in N=4 Gauged Supergravity
We study monopole and dyon solutions to the equations of motion of the
bosonic sector of N = 4 gauged supergravity in four dimensional space-time. A
static, spherically symmetric ansatz for the metric, gauge fields, dilaton and
axion leads to soliton solutions which, in the electrically charged case, have
compact spatial sections. Both analytical and numerical results for the
solutions are presented.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures. Minor changes, references adde
Kappa-symmetric Derivative Corrections to D-brane Dynamics
We show how the superembedding formalism can be applied to construct
manifestly kappa-symmetric higher derivative corrections for the D9-brane. We
also show that all correction terms appear at even powers of the fundamental
length scale . We explicitly construct the first potential correction, which
corresponds to the kappa-symmetric version of the , which one
finds from the four-point amplitude of the open superstring.Comment: 20 pages. Minor changes, added reference
The One-loop Open Superstring Massless Five-point Amplitude with the Non-Minimal Pure Spinor Formalism
We compute the massless five-point amplitude of open superstrings using the
non-minimal pure spinor formalism and obtain a simple kinematic factor in pure
spinor superspace, which can be viewed as the natural extension of the
kinematic factor of the massless four-point amplitude. It encodes bosonic and
fermionic external states in supersymmetric form and reduces to existing
bosonic amplitudes when expanded in components, therefore proving their
equivalence. We also show how to compute the kinematic structures involving
fermionic states.Comment: 38 pages, harvmac TeX, v2: fix typo in (4.2) and add referenc
