    KeyForge: Mitigating Email Breaches with Forward-Forgeable Signatures

    Email breaches are commonplace, and they expose a wealth of personal, business, and political data that may have devastating consequences. The current email system allows any attacker who gains access to your email to prove the authenticity of the stolen messages to third parties -- a property arising from a necessary anti-spam / anti-spoofing protocol called DKIM. This exacerbates the problem of email breaches by greatly increasing the potential for attackers to damage the users' reputation, blackmail them, or sell the stolen information to third parties. In this paper, we introduce "non-attributable email", which guarantees that a wide class of adversaries are unable to convince any third party of the authenticity of stolen emails. We formally define non-attributability, and present two practical system proposals -- KeyForge and TimeForge -- that provably achieve non-attributability while maintaining the important protection against spam and spoofing that is currently provided by DKIM. Moreover, we implement KeyForge and demonstrate that that scheme is practical, achieving competitive verification and signing speed while also requiring 42% less bandwidth per email than RSA2048

    Quasilocal Smarr relation for an asymptotically flat spacetime

    A quasilocal Smarr relation is obtained from Euler's theorem for Einstein-Maxwell(-Dilaton) theory for an asymptotically flat spacetime, and its associated first law is studied. To check both, we calculate quasilocal variables by employing Brown-York quasilocal method along with Mann-Marolf counterterms, which are consistent with Tolman temperature. We also derive entropy by constructing a quasilocal thermodynamic potential via Euclidean method. Here we found that the Euclidean action value in a quasilocal frame just yields a usual thermodynamic potential form, which do not include a PAPA term, and entropy just becomes the Bekenstein-Hawking one. Through the examples, we confirmed that our quasilocal Smarr relation is satisfied with all cases, and its first law is also exactly satisfied except the dyonic black hole with the dilaton coupling constant a=3a=\sqrt{3}. In that case when making a large RR expansion, the first law is satisfied up to 1/R1/R order but it does not hold for higher sub-leading order of RR.     Gastric cancer with radiographically occult metastatic disease: Biology, challenges, and diagnostic approaches

    Gastric adenocarcinoma is an aggressive cancer that demonstrates heterogeneous biology depending on patient ethnicity, tumor location, tumor type, and genetic profile. It remains the third leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide and was estimated to result in 782,000 deaths in 2018. Challenges exist in accurately assessing the disease burden, as available radiological staging often underestimates metastatic disease. This diagnostic handicap, along with the poor understanding of the heterogeneous biology of gastric cancer, has hindered the development of effective therapeutic solutions and thus halted improvement in patient outcomes over the last few decades. The management of occult peritoneal disease is complicated, as most patients are understaged by standard imaging studies and therefore thought to have local diseases. In this article, we systematically review recent literature on the limitations that are associated with standard radiographic staging, discuss recent molecular biology advances to better identify and diagnose occult peritoneal disease, and propose possible management strategies to approach this complicated clinical problem

    Robust Environmental Mapping by Mobile Sensor Networks

    Constructing a spatial map of environmental parameters is a crucial step to preventing hazardous chemical leakages, forest fires, or while estimating a spatially distributed physical quantities such as terrain elevation. Although prior methods can do such mapping tasks efficiently via dispatching a group of autonomous agents, they are unable to ensure satisfactory convergence to the underlying ground truth distribution in a decentralized manner when any of the agents fail. Since the types of agents utilized to perform such mapping are typically inexpensive and prone to failure, this results in poor overall mapping performance in real-world applications, which can in certain cases endanger human safety. This paper presents a Bayesian approach for robust spatial mapping of environmental parameters by deploying a group of mobile robots capable of ad-hoc communication equipped with short-range sensors in the presence of hardware failures. Our approach first utilizes a variant of the Voronoi diagram to partition the region to be mapped into disjoint regions that are each associated with at least one robot. These robots are then deployed in a decentralized manner to maximize the likelihood that at least one robot detects every target in their associated region despite a non-zero probability of failure. A suite of simulation results is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method when compared to existing techniques.Comment: accepted to icra 201

    Rheumatoid meningitis sine arthritis.

    Rheumatoid meningitis is a rare and very serious extra-articular manifestation of rheumatoid arthritis. We present a case of a 7()year-old female with no history of arthritis who developed stroke-like symptoms, seizures, psychosis and compulsive behavior. Serial brain magnetic resonance images (MRI) over four months demonstrated progressive interhemispheric meningeal thickening. She had mild lymphocytic pleocytosis on the cerebrospinal fluid analysis and serum anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies resulted positive in high titers. She underwent a brain biopsy showing necrotizing granulomas consistent with rheumatoid meningitis. Her symptoms resolved with treatment with glucocorticoids and cyclophosphamide. She has not been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis even after 1 year of follow up. Clinicians should be aware of the possibility of rheumatoid meningitis without rheumatoid arthritis and keep it on the differential for patients with aseptic meningitis and otherwise negative work up
