The article deals with the results of the analysis of the Old Russian translation of the First book of Cosmographia by Pompons Mela. Mela’s Cosmographia was admired and praised by humanists. The research of the way the text was comprehended and interpreted in Muscovy demonstrates the original features of the perception of the Renaissance traditions, ideas and values by Russian intellectuals. The study reveals that the comprehension of Mela’s information was characterized by traditional manner of pursuit of biblical analogy. Thus, even the close acquaintance with the Renaissance culture did not change the essence of the Russian Medieval Orthodox culture

St. Cassian of Uchma and His Canonization at the Time of Mikhail Romanov: Trust in the Spiritual Authorities

The article examines the circumstances and significance of the canonization of St. Cassian of Uchma in 1629. Based on a wide range of sources (the life of St. Cassian in its various copies and editions, as well as the “books of the foundation” of the Assumption Church of the Cassian Monastery, wills of Russian princes and other documents), analyzed by the classical methods of historical science (retrospective, method of historical periodization, historical-genetic, historical-systemic), it was possible to come to the conclusion that in the information about the life and miracles of St. Cassian, the central government drew important ideas necessary to overcome the crisis of statehood and power generated by the Time of Troubles. For the consolidation of the huge country of the central government, it was extremely important to apply to the images of the righteous defenders who discovered their holiness in the regions. After the end of the intervention, it was no less important to emphasize that Russia, in spite of everything, was an integral part of the common European cultural space. The figure of St. Cassian, a “Greco-Roman” saint by origin, whose appearance in Russia is associated with the arrival of Sophia Palaeologina in Moscow (1472), fully reached these important national goals

Regulation of mitochondrial NADP-isocitrate dehydrogenase in rat heart during ischemia

    Get PDF
The changes in the regulation of at mitochondrial NADP-isocitrate dehydrogenase (NADP-ICDH) in a rat heart during have been analysed. Increase of enzyme activity in the cytosol and mitochondria of the heart ischemia was detected. Catalytic properties of the mitochondrial NADP-ICDH at norm and pathology have been compared on homogeneous enzyme preparations. Enzyme from the normoxic and ischemic heart showed the same electrophoretical mobility and molecular mass. Enzyme isolated from the ischemic heart mitochondria demonstrated higher activation energy and lower thermal stability. NADP-isocitrate dehydrogenase at the normoxic and ischemic conditions exhibited different Km for substrates and regulatory behaviour in relation to ATP, ADP, 2-oxoglutarate, citrate, malate, reduced and oxidised glutathione. The inhibitory effect of the Fe2+ and H2O2 mixture associated with the generation of hydroxyl radicals was lower in the ischemic enzyme. We hypothesise that the specific features of regulation behaviour of NADP-ICDH from the ischemic tissues permits the enzyme to supply NADPH to the glutathione reductase/glutathione peroxidase system. This work was supported by grants from the Scientific Programs of Russia Ministry Education and Science (number of projects are RNP. 2.1.1.4429 and UR. 07.01.004).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

VALUE-SEMANTIC SPHERE OF STUDENTS OF UNIVERSITIES OF VARIOUS REGIONS OF RUSSIA

Purpose. In this article, the similarities and differences of the value-semantic sphere of students of Russian universities are considered as a subject of research. Keeping in mind the regional specifics, it is assumed that the existing similarities in the value-semantic sphere of students of Russian universities in different regions will prevail over the differences. The study involved students of universities in Samara, Omsk, Vladikavkaz and Voronezh. Methodology. Standardized test methods and methods of mathematical statistics were used to collect and process empirical data. Results. The study revealed statistically significant differences in the degree of meaningfulness of life and the level of internality of students. The greatest discrepancy in the degree of importance was revealed regarding the values of health, material well-beingнаряду, creativity, family, career, service, glory and rest. At the same time, statistically significant differences in self-actualization and personality orientation were not found. The study participants from different cities showed mostly normal and inflated levels of self-esteem and self-acceptance, most of the students prefer to live in the present, not to postpone and not to plan for a long time ahead. There was also a similarity in the desire to adhere to certain principles, as opposed to showing flexibility and reactivity. Practical implications. The results of this study will be useful in organizing extracurricular educational work with students, as a basis for the formation and development of their moral self-awareness and subjectivity, as well as the development of educational motivation and professional identity

The article deals with the index assessment of the size of the bone defect in the postoperative period after resection of the tooth root apex on the basis of a retrospective study of the medical histories of 46 patients of the surgical Department of The dental clinic of USMA. Taking into account the periapical index, a quantitative assessment of x-ray changes in the periapical region before and after treatment was carried out, as well as an assessment of the postoperative course of the disease. Conclusions about the activity of the reparative process in the postoperative bone defect on the basis of a score.

Microbial interactions and differential protein expression in Staphylococcus aureus –Candida albicans dual-species biofilms

    Get PDF
The fungal species Candida albicans and the bacterial species Staphylococcus aureus are responsible for a majority of hospital-acquired infections and often coinfect critically ill patients as complicating polymicrobial biofilms. To investigate biofilm structure during polymicrobial growth, dual-species biofilms were imaged with confocal scanning laser microscopy. Analyses revealed a unique biofilm architecture where S. aureus commonly associated with the hyphal elements of C. albicans. This physical interaction may provide staphylococci with an invasion strategy because candidal hyphae can penetrate through epithelial layers. To further understand the molecular mechanisms possibly responsible for previously demonstrated amplified virulence during coinfection, protein expression studies were undertaken. Differential in-gel electrophoresis identified a total of 27 proteins to be significantly differentially produced by these organisms during coculture biofilm growth. Among the upregulated staphylococcal proteins was l-lactate dehydrogenase 1, which confers resistance to host-derived oxidative stressors. Among the downregulated proteins was the global transcriptional repressor of virulence factors, CodY. These findings demonstrate that the hyphae-mediated enhanced pathogenesis of S. aureus may not only be due to physical interactions but can also be attributed to the differential regulation of specific virulence factors induced during polymicrobial growth. Further characterization of the intricate interaction between these pathogens at the molecular level is warranted, as it may aid in the design of novel therapeutic strategies aimed at combating fungal–bacterial polymicrobial infection

The article describes the results of a retrospective study of patients with typical and atypical course of tooth pulpitis. Incorrect primary diagnosis of atypical pulpitis was 48.0% in the initial treatment of patients to the dentist. More often, the atypical course of pulpitis is diagnosed in middle-aged and elderly women with lesions of the upper teeth.
