Evaluation of the isospin asymmetry of the nucleon structure functions with CLAS++
The possibility to estimate the isospin symmetry breaking effects in the
non-perturbative part of F_2 structure function of the chargeg lN
deep-pnelastic scattering, which will provide CLAS++ dewtector of the upgraded
TJNAF machine at , is discussed. The problems of the
Gottfried sum rule extraction are also considered.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, presented at BARYONS04 Conference, Palaiseau,

Binding affinities and activation of Asp712Ala and Cys100Ser mutated kinin B1 receptor forms suggest a bimodal scheme for the molecule of bound-DABK
AbstractMutant forms of kinin B1 receptor (B1R) and analogs of the full agonist des-Arg9-bradykinin (DABK) were investigated aiming to verify the importance of selected receptor residues and of each agonist-peptide residue in the specific binding and activation. Linked by a specific disulfide bond (Cys100–Cys650), the N-terminal (Nt) and the EC3 loop C-terminal (Ct) segments of angiotensin II (AngII) receptor 1 (AT1R) have been identified to form an extracellular site for binding the agonist Nt segment (Asp1 and Arg2 residues). Asp712 residue at the receptor EC3 loop binds the peptide Arg2 residue. By homology, a similar site might be considered for DABK binding to B1R since this receptor contains the same structural elements for composing the site in AT1R, namely the disulfide bond and the EC3 loop Asp712 residue. DABK, Alan-DABK analogs (n=Ala1-, Ala2-, Ala3-, Ala4-, Ala5-, Ala6-, Ala7-, Ala8-DABK), and other analogs were selected to binding wild-type, Asp712Ala and Cys100Ser mutated B1R receptors. The results obtained suggested that the same bimodal scheme adopted for AngII-AT1R system may be applied to DABK binding to B1R. The most crucial similarity in the two cases is that the Nt segments of peptides equally bind to the homologous Asp712 residue of both AT1R and B1R extracellular sites. Confirming this preliminary supposition, mutation of residues located at the B1R extracellular site as EC3 loop Asp712 and Cys100 caused the same modifications in biological assays observed in AT1R submitted to homologous mutations, such as significant weakening of agonist binding and reduction of post-receptor-activation processes. These findings provided enough support for defining a site that determines the specific binding of DABK to B1R receptors
Nature of vibrational eigenmodes in topologically disordered solids
We use a local projectional analysis method to investigate the effect of
topological disorder on the vibrational dynamics in a model glass simulated by
molecular dynamics. Evidence is presented that the vibrational eigenmodes in
the glass are generically related to the corresponding eigenmodes of its
crystalline counterpart via disorder-induced level-repelling and hybridization
effects. It is argued that the effect of topological disorder in the glass on
the dynamical matrix can be simulated by introducing positional disorder in a
crystalline counterpart.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures, PRB, to be publishe
Non-universal gaugino masses: a signal-based analysis for the Large Hadron Collider
We discuss the signals at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) for scenarios with
non-universal gaugino masses in supersymmetric (SUSY) theories. We perform a
multichannel analysis, and consider the ratios of event rates in different
channels such as , - and -
, as well as and final states
together with . Low-energy SUSY spectra corresponding to
high-scale gaugino non-universality arising from different breaking schemes of
SU(5) as well as SO(10) Grand Unified (GUT) SUSY models are considered, with
both degenerate low-energy sfermion masses and those arising from a
supergravity scenario. We present the numerical predictions over a wide range
of the parameter space using the event generator {\tt Pythia}, specifying the
event selection criteria and pointing out regions where signals are likely to
be beset with backgrounds. Certain broad features emerge from the study, which
may be useful in identifying the signatures of different GUT breaking schemes
and distinguishing them from a situation with a universal gaugino mass at high
scale. The absolute values of the predicted event rates for different scenarios
are presented together with the various event ratios, so that these can also be
used whenever necessary.Comment: 54 pages, 18 figure
Corrections to the Central Limit Theorem for Heavy-Tailed Probability Densities
Classical Edgeworth expansions provide asymptotic correction terms to the
Central Limit Theorem (CLT) up to an order that depends on the number of
moments available. In this paper, we provide subsequent correction terms beyond
those given by a standard Edgeworth expansion in the general case of regularly
varying distributions with diverging moments (beyond the second). The
subsequent terms can be expressed in a simple closed form in terms of certain
special functions (Dawson's integral and parabolic cylinder functions), and
there are qualitative differences depending on whether the number of moments
available is even, odd or not an integer, and whether the distributions are
symmetric or not. If the increments have an even number of moments, then
additional logarithmic corrections must also be incorporated in the expansion
parameter. An interesting feature of our correction terms for the CLT is that
they become dominant outside the central region and blend naturally with known
large-deviation asymptotics when these are applied formally to the spatial
scales of the CLT
PMH40 How do Patients Describe Their Depression? - Incorporating the Patient's Voice Into Instrument Development
Letter from CGIAR Chairman Ismail Serageldin to CGIAR heads of delegation, board chairs, center directors and the TAC chairman and secretariat, leading up to ICW94. Serageldin described the work of various ad hoc and standing bodies in preparation for International Centers Week 1994 and the Ministerial-level Meeting being planned for early 1995. He also announced that as a result of additional funding by donors and matching funds from the World Bank, the 1994 core program was fully funded
Parton-Hadron Duality in Unpolarised and Polarised Structure Functions
We study the phenomenon of parton-hadron duality in both polarised and
unpolarised electron proton scattering using the HERMES and the Jefferson Lab
data, respectively. In both cases we extend a systematic perturbative QCD based
analysis to the integrals of the structure functions in the resonance region.
After subtracting target mass corrections and large x resummation effects, we
extract the remaining power corrections up to order 1/Q^2. We find a sizeable
suppression of these terms with respect to analyses using deep inelastic
scattering data. The suppression appears consistently in both polarised and
unpolarised data, except for the low Q^2 polarised data, where a large negative
higher twist contribution remains. Possible scenarios generating this behavior
are discussed.Comment: 17 pages, 9 figure
PDF and scale uncertainties of various DY distributions in ADD and RS models at hadron colliders
In the extra dimension models of ADD and RS we study the dependence of the
various parton distribution functions on observable of Drell-Yan process to NLO
in QCD at LHC and Tevatron energies. Uncertainties at LHC due to factorisation
scales in going from leading to next-to-leading order in QCD for the various
distributions get reduced by about 2.75 times for a range . Further uncertainties arising from the error on experimental
data are estimated using the MRST parton distribution functions.Comment: 27 pages, 11 figures, the version to appear in European Physical
