SMARTPHONE USAGE AND THE NEED FOR CONSUMER PRIVACY LAWS
Many Americans use smartphones for a variety of personal, recreational, and business affairs. While the increasing popularity of smartphones and mobile technology has advanced communication, new uses have created privacy breaches of personal and consumer information. This article examines the different ways that American smartphone users use their mobile devices as well as the various types of data created.This article also explores the vulnerabilities faced by smartphone users. Vulnerabilities occur through the use of traditional hacking and malware, but can extend to the collection and dissemination of personal and consumer information by smartphone applications. The article concludes by examining different solutions for privacy breaches. Some solutions may be implemented on an individual or institutional level. Other solutions to privacy breaches require the enforcement and extension of legislation upon telecommunication companies and application developers
Triggered star formation in a molecular shell created by a SNR?
We present a study of a new molecular shell, G126.1-0.8-14, using available
multiwavelegth Galactic plane surveys and optical Gemini observations. A well
defined shell-like structure is observed in the CO(1--0) line emission at (l,b)
= (126.1, -0.8), in the velocity range --10.5 to --15.5 km/s. The HI, emission
shows a region of low emissivity inside G126.1-0.8-14, while radio continuum
observations reveal faint non-thermal emission possibly related to this shell.
Optical spectra obtained with Gemini South show the existence of B-type stars
likely to be associated with G126.1-0.8-14. An estimate of the stellar wind
energy injected by these stars show that they alone can not be able to create
such a structure. On the other hand, one supernova explosion would provide
enough energy to generate the shell. Using the MSX, IRAS, and WISE Point Source
Catalogues we have found about 30 young stellar objects candidates, whose birth
could have been triggered by the expansion of G126.1-0.8-14. In this context,
Sh2-187 could be a consequence of the action on its surroundings of the most
massive (and thus most evolve) of the stars formed by the expanding molecular

Determination of Master Compliance Curve for Extruded Semolina Pasta
The dependence of the rate of relaxation of semolina pasta on moisture content and temperature and how it affects shrinkage during drying has not yet been determined. The purpose of this research was to develop an equation that relates moisture content and temperature in order to obtain a master curve for creep of the product. When found, this equation could help to optimize the drying process and increase the quality of the final pasta product. Semolina flour mixed with water and propionic acid to create a 35% wet basis product was extruded on a C.W. Brabender 2523 to obtain a flat, thin pasta. This product was dried in desiccators calibrated at different relative humidities (53.2%, 82.3%, 96.4%) and temperatures (40OC, 80OC) and then run through creep testing with a DMA and Texture Analyzer. Creep testing related the rate of relaxation to the relative humidity, moisture content, and temperature. The pasta that was tested at higher stresses tended to strain more. Also, higher moisture content pastas and pastas dried at higher temperatures tended to strain more. These results will be used in ongoing research relating the creep of semolina pasta to the rate of shrinkage of the product. Eventually, data such as this for other bio products will be collected and analyzed which can lead to better quality products and higher efficiency processes
Coping and Suicide Among At-Risk Community College Students
The authors investigated the complex relationships of coping associated with suicide risk among community college students. Survey responses were obtained from 733 participants. A multiple linear regression demonstrated that maladaptive coping such as self-distraction, substance use, and denial were predictive factors of suicide among students in the 18–29 age group. Self-distraction and denial were significant coping protective factors of suicide risk for students aged 29–67. Implications for increasing suicide awareness and prevention in education are discussed.

Alzheimer’s disease-associated peptide Aβ<sub>42</sub> mobilizes ER Ca<sup>2+</sup> via InsP<sub>3</sub>R-dependent and -independent mechanisms
Dysregulation of Ca2+ homeostasis is considered to contribute to the toxic action of the Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) associated Amyloid β-peptide (Aβ). Ca2+ fluxes across the plasma membrane and release from intracellular stores have both been reported to underlie the Ca2+ fluxes induced by Aβ42. Here, we investigated the contribution of Ca2+ release from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to the effects of Aβ42 upon Ca2+ homeostasis and the mechanism by which Aβ42 elicited these effects. Consistent with previous reports, application of soluble oligomeric forms of Aβ42 exhibited Ca2+ mobilizing properties. The Aβ42-stimulated Ca2+ signals persisted in the absence of extracellular Ca2+ indicating a significant contribution of Ca2+ release from the ER Ca2+ store to the generation of these signals. Moreover, inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (InsP3) signaling contributed to Aβ42-stimulated Ca2+ release. The Ca2+ mobilizing effect of Aβ42 was also observed when applied to permeabilized cells
deficient in InsP3 receptors revealing an additional direct effect of internalized Aβ42 upon the ER, and a mechanism for induction of toxicity by intracellular Aβ42
Improvements to 232-thorium, 230-thorium, and 231-protactinium analysis in seawater arising from GEOTRACES intercalibration
The GEOTRACES program requires the analysis of large numbers of seawater samples for ^(232)Th, ^(230)Th, and ^(231)Pa. During the GEOTRACES international intercalibration exercise, we encountered unexpected difficulties with recovery and contamination of these isotopes, ^(232)Th in particular. Experiments were carried out to identify the source of these issues, leading to a more streamlined and efficient procedure. The two particular problems that we identified and corrected were (1) frits in columns supplied by Bio-Rad Laboratories caused loss of Th during column chemistry and (2) new batches of AG1-X8 resin supplied by Bio-Rad Laboratories released more than 100 pg of ^(232)Th during elution of sample. To improve yields and blanks, we implemented a series of changes including switching to Eichrom anion exchange resin (100-200 μm mesh) and Environmental Express columns. All Th and Pa samples were analyzed on a Neptune multi-collector inductively-coupled-plasma mass spectrometer (MC-ICP-MS) using peak hopping of ^(230)Th and ^(229)Th on the central SEM, with either ^(232)Th, ^(236)U (or both) used to monitor for beam intensity. We used in-house laboratory standards to check for machine reproducibility, and the GEOTRACES intercalibration standard to check for accuracy. Over a 1-y period, the 2 s.d. reproducibility on the GEOTRACES SW STD 2010-1 was 2.5% for ^(230)Th, 1.8% for ^(232)Th, and 4% for ^(231)Pa. The lessons learned during this intercalibration process will be of value to those analyzing U-Th-Pa and rare earth elements as part of the GEOTRACES program as well as those using U-series elements in other applications that require high yields and low blanks, such as geochronology
Using the TEACHING WELL Model for Evaluation of Online Counselor Educators
As enrollment in online counselor education programs continues to grow, faculty must develop self-awareness regarding their own teaching practices. Research across various disciplines offers a variety of tools and strategies for best practices in online education, including how to effectively engage students and promote student success. The purpose of this article is to offer the TEACHING WELL Model as one practical option for online counselor educators to use as a self-evaluation or peer mentoring tool. The authors hope to offer a robust guide to streamline a process for faculty quality assurance and continued improvement in online counselor education programs

Neural hypersensitivity to pleasant touch in women remitted from anorexia nervosa.
Interoception, or the sensing and integration of bodily state signals, has been implicated in anorexia nervosa (AN), given that the hallmark symptoms involve food restriction and body image disturbance. Here we focus on brain response to the anticipation and experience of affective interoceptive stimuli. Women remitted from AN (RAN; N = 18) and healthy comparison women (CW; N = 26) underwent a pleasant affective touch paradigm consisting of gentle strokes with a soft brush administered to the forearm or palm during functional neuroimaging. RAN had a lower brain response relative to CW during anticipation of touch, but a greater response when experiencing touch in the right ventral mid-insula. In RAN, this reduced anticipatory response was associated with higher levels of harm avoidance. Exploratory analyses in RAN also suggested that lower response during touch anticipation was associated with greater body dissatisfaction and higher perceived touch intensity ratings. This reduced responsivity to the anticipation of pleasant affective interoceptive stimuli in association with higher harm avoidance, along with an elevated response to the experience of touch, suggests an impaired ability in AN to predict and interpret incoming physiological stimuli. Impaired interoception may thus impact one's sense of self, thereby supporting observations of disturbed body image and avoidance of affective and social stimuli. Therapeutic approaches that help AN to better anticipate and interpret salient affective stimuli or improve tolerance of interoceptive experiences may be an important addition to current interventions
