Il poeta Mario Vargas Llosa, dottore a Firenze
In this article the polycentric and polymorphous writing of Mario Vargas Llosa is presented from his first novels until his most recent critic production. Just one literary genre seemed to miss in his long and prolific career: poetry. Nevertheless, this article demonstrates how poetry too is an unknown but fundamental part of Vargas Llosa’s lifework. As a tribute to this incredible trajectory, the University of Florence will be honoured to confer him the Honorary Doctorate in spring 2014.
Perù frontiera del mondo. Eielson e Vargas Llosa: dalle radici all’impegno cosmopolita / Perú frontera del mundo.
Jorge Eduardo Eielson (Lima 1924 - Milan 2006) and Mario Vargas Llosa (Arequipa, Peru, 1936; Winner of the Nobel prize in 2010) are certainly two 'exemplary Peruvians', as they have both started by digging into the history and social conflicts of their country, before opening up to global culture and reality with an interdisciplinary and intercultural spirit: Vargas Llosa did so using fiction, theatre, non-fiction and journalism; Eielson used poetry, the visual arts, non-fiction and journalism. The volume offers a rich itinerary starting from an interview with Vargas Llosa by José Miguel Oviedo (Florence, 2008), and then goes through individual aspects of the work by the two authors. It is then accompanied by photographic records and a DVD with an elaboration of Eielson's visual works, paintings and poems
This article tries to provide the reader with the fundamental elements for a journey through Carlos Germán Belli’s poetry. The analysis starts from his life and the artistic situation in which he began to write, followed by examination of the peculiar features of his poetry as well as his search for consolation in writing and the metaphorical constructions (the cud) created to explain the conflict between body and soul. In this analysis, the study of the relationship between classic and the avant-garde poetry is central, as is the close link between the modern and aesthetic criteria of the Old World, with which the author shapes a lexical and semantic mix, which allows him to express all the innate pain of humankind through topical themes with a unique exciting lyricism
