Hygienization and control of Diplodia seriata fungus in vine pruning waste composting and its seasonal variability in open and closed systems
After the ban on sodium arsenite, waste management alternatives to the prevalent burning method, such as the hygienization and biodegradation in solid phase by composting, are required for the pruned material from grapevines affected by various fungi. In this work the dynamics of a fungus associated with vine decay (Diplodia seriata) during the composting process of a mixture of laying hen manure and vine pruning waste (2:1 w/w) have been investigated in an open pile and a discontinuous closed biodigester. Through the optimization of the various physical–chemical parameters, hygienization of the infected waste materials was attained, yielding class-A organo-mineral fertilizers. Nevertheless, important differences in the efficiency of each system were observed: whereas in the open pile it took 10 days to control D. seriata and 35 additional composting days to achieve full inactivation, in the discontinuous biodigester the fungus was entirely inactivated within the first 3–7 days. Finally, the impact of seasonal variability was assessed and summer temperatures shown to have greater significance in the open pile
Form invariance symmetry generates a large set of FRW cosmologies
We show that Einstein's field equations for spatially flat
Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) space times have a form invariance symmetry
(FIS) realized by the form invariance transformations (FIT) which are indeed
generated by an invertible function of the source energy density. These
transformations act on the Hubble expansion rate, the energy density, and
pressure of the cosmic fluid; likewise such transformations are endowed with a
Lie group structure. Each representation of this group is associated with a
particular fluid and consequently a determined cosmology, so that, the FIS
defines a set of equivalent cosmological models. We focus our seek in the FIT
generated by a linear function because it provides a natural framework to
express the duality and also produces a large sets of cosmologies, starting
from a seed one, in several contexts as for instance in the cases of a perfect
fluid source and a scalar field driven by a potential depending linearly on the

Role of lysosomal enzymes released by alveolar macrophages in the pathogenesis of the acute phase of hypersensitivity pneumonitis
Hydrolytic enzymes are the major constituents of alveolar macrophages (AM) and have been shown to be involved in many aspects of the inflammatory pulmonary response. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of lysosomal enzymes in the acute phase of hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HPs). An experimental study on AM lysosomal enzymes of an HP-guinea-pig model was performed. The results obtained both in vivo and in vitro suggest that intracellular enzymatic activity decrease is, at least partly, due to release of lysosomal enzymes into the medium. A positive but slight correlation was found between extracellular lysosomal activity and four parameters of lung lesion (lung index, bronchoalveolar fluid total (BALF) protein concentration, BALF LDH and BALF alkaline phosphatase activities). All the above findings suggest that the AM release of lysosomal enzymes during HP is a factor involved, although possibly not the only one, in the pulmonary lesions appearing in this disease
BN 52021 (a platelet activating factor-receptor antagonist) decreases alveolar macrophage-mediated lung injury in experimental extrinsic allergic alveolitis.
Several lines of research indirectly suggest that platelet activating factor (PAF) may intervene in the pathogenesis of extrinsic allergic alveolitis (EAA). The specific aim of our study was to evaluate the participation of PAF on macrophage activation during the acute phase of EAA in an experimental model of this disease developed in guinea pigs. Initially we measured the concentration of PAF in bronchoalvedar lavage fluid, blood and lung tissue. In a second phase we evaluate the participation of PAF on alveolar macrophage activation and parenchymal lung injury. The effect of PAF on parenchymal lung injury was evaluated by measuring several lung parenchymatous lesion indices (lung index, bronchoalvedar lavage fluid (BALF) lactic hydrogenase activity and BALF alkaline phosphatase activity) and parameters of systemic response to the challenge (acute phase reagents). We observed that induction of the experimental EAA gave rise to an increase in the concentration of PAF in blood and in lung tissue. The use of the PAF-receptor antagonist BN52021 decreases the release of lysosomal enzymes (beta-glucuronidase and tartrate-sensitive acid phosphatase) to the extracellular environment both in vivo and in vitro. Furthermore, antagonism of the PAF receptors notably decreases pulmonary parenchymatous lesion. These data suggest that lung lesions from acute EAA are partly mediated by local production of PAF
A low-pass filter with automatic frequency tuning for a bluetooth receiver
A third-order Gm-C Chebyshev low-pass filter with high linearity and automatic frequency programmability has been designed. The filter is intended to be used as a channel-select filter for a zero-IF Bluetooth receiver. The frequency tuning scheme is simpler and has more relaxed specifications than conventional ones. The filter bandwidth is 0.5 MHz and the overall scheme dissipates 1.1 mA from a 1.8-V supply. The third-order intermodulation (IM3) distortion of the filter for a 1Vpp two-tone signal centered at 350 kHz is -67dB.Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnología TEC2007-67460-C03-02
Preservation of Quercus robur germplasm by cryostorage of embryogenic cultures derived from mature trees and rapd analysis of genetic stability
This study reports on the cryostorage of embryogenic lines derived from selected mature Quercus robur trees, following application of the PVS2-vitrification based procedure. In seven oak genotypes, embryo recovery levels ranging from 57-92% were obtained when 4-6 mg embryo clumps were precultured for 3 days on 0.3 M sucrose basal medium, treated with PVS2 solution for 60 min at 24ºC, and then immersed in liquid nitrogen (LN). Embryos of six out of seven lines were cryostored for one week and one year and used to evaluate cryopreservation tolerance, germination ability and to assess genetic fidelity by random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. There were no significant differences between the recovery frequencies of samples retrieved from LN after 1 week and 1 year of cryostorage. In five out of six lines, RAPD profiles of cryopreserved somatic embryos and regenerated plantlets were identical to those of the controls. Although polymorphisms were detected in only one cryostored embryo of one genotype, no genetic instability was found in the regenerated plantlets. This methodology appears to be suitable for long-term storage of this valuable germplasm, as the recovered plantlets were found to be genetically stable.Xunta de Galicia project: PGIDIT03RFO40001PR

Singular sources in the Demianski-Newman spacetimes
The analysis of singular regions in the NUT solutions carried out in the
recent paper (Manko and Ruiz, 2005 Class. Quantum Grav. 22, p.3555) is now
extended to the Demianski-Newman vacuum and electrovacuum spacetimes. We show
that the effect which produces the NUT parameter in a more general situation
remains essentially the same as in the purely NUT solutions: it introduces the
semi-infinite singularities of infinite angular momenta and positive or
negative masses depending on the interrelations between the parameters; the
presence of the electromagnetic field additionally endows the singularities
with electric and magnetic charges. The exact formulae describing the mass,
charges and angular momentum distributions in the Demianski-Newman solutions
are obtained and concise general expressions P_n=(m+i\nu)(ia)^n,
Q_n=(q+ib)(ia)^n for the entire set of the respective Beig-Simon multipole
moments are derived. These moments correspond to a unique choice of the
integration constant in the expression of the metric function \omega which is

Determinantes del entorno familiar en el fomento del hábito lector del alumnado de Educación Primaria
El presente trabajo se ubica en el ámbito de las relaciones entre el medio familiar y el hábito de lectura, focalizando la atención sobre el alumnado de Educación Primaria y sus familias. En concreto, se ha analizado la incidencia de la situación económica, cultural, laboral y la implicación familiar sobre el hábito lector de sus hijos. En la realización de la investigación se ha adoptado un diseño cuantitativo no experimental de corte transversal, en el que la información ha sido recogida entre 403 escolares de nueve centros de Educación Primaria de la Región de Murcia mediante un cuestionario. Los resultados obtenidos revelan niveles más altos de hábito de lectura en el alumnado cuyos padres presentan una situación económica y un nivel de estudios superior, así como una mayor implicación en la educación de sus hijos. Por último, se apuntan algunas recomendaciones que desde la escuela podrían llevarse a cabo para intentar solventar las desventajas familiares de partida, animando a las familias a participar de forma directa en las actividades que propongan los centros y estrechando, de esta manera, la relación familia-escuela.This research is located in the environment of relationships between the family environment and the reading habit, focusing the attention on students of Primary Education and their families. Specifi cally, the aim was analysing how the economic, cultural, labour situation and the family involvement affect the reading habit of children. A quantitative, no experimental, cross-sectional and descriptive design was used in the research, in which information was collected in nine schools from Region de Murcia, taking into consideration a sample of 403 children. The results show higher reading habit in students whose parents have better economic status, superior academic level and greater involvement in the education of their children. Finally, some recommendations were displayed as actions that should be taken from the school perspective in order to try to solve the family, economic and cultural disadvantages of the starting point. These suggestions seek encouraging families to participate directly in the proposed activities by schools, narrowing the gap between the family and school
