Parent–child communicational characteristics: a comparison study between subjects from post-divorce and intact nuclear families
The occurrence of divorce seems to have impact on parent–
child communication, with subsequent implications on the
children well-being and development. The present study aims
to analyze the influence that divorce has on parent–child
communication comparing 102 participants from post divorced families and 100 participants from intact nuclear
families. Measures consisted of a sociodemographic question naire and Perception Scale of Parenting Communication.
Despite literature indicators, the main findings reveal the
absence of significant statistical differences between both
family structures, concerning to parent–child communication.
Overall, it was registered some statistically significant differ ences concerning to specific divorce variables. These findings
demystifying the idea that post-divorce families establish less
positive communication patterns when compared with intact
nuclear families.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Characterization of parent-adolescent communication: a study of socio-demographic variables
Parent-adolescent communication seems to depend largely of some socio-demographic characteristics. The main goal of this research is the analysis of parent-adolescent perception about their communication considering some socio-demographic variables: sex, residence, socioeconomic status, education and family composition. A quantitative cross-sectional design was used to analyze the perception of 336 parents and 268 children about the quality of communication using the Perception Scale of Parenting Communication.: It was revealed that: boys tend to share their problems mostly with fathers; mothers have better perception of communication; there weren't statistical differences on communicational conflict in the sex variable; members of high socioeconomic classes and urban contexts have better perception about communication; and adolescents of post-divorce families tend to share their problems mostly with mothers than adolescents of intact nuclear families. Considering the influence of some socio-demographic variables on parent-adolescent communication, it is possible design concrete clinical interventions. It suggests the need to pay attention to particular contexts (rural places and low socioeconomic classes). These results demystify the belief that post-divorce families have more difficulties than nuclear intact families.
e do acompanhamento.
investimento direto estrangeiro (IDE) e do Capital Humano (CH)
no crescimento económico do país.
e do CH no crescimento económico do país.
The present dissertation aims to analyze the impact of foreign
direct investment (IDE) and human capital (CH) on the country's
economic growth. We will see if economic growth leads to an
improvement in the standard of living of the population, as it is
expected that as a country increases its ability to create wealth
through the production process, they improve their living
conditions. In all countries, foreign direct investment is considered
a determining factor for economic growth. The same is true in
Portugal. It is also relevant to investigate how Human Capital
influences economic growth, and often there are restrictions such
as the difference between quality and quantity of education, which
may inhibit economic growth in some cases. In a global economy
like today, there is a highly competitive environment in which to
attract investment. It is important to look closely at the behavior of
IDE and CH in the economic growth of the country. Therefore, in
both cases we tried to bring to this work the "state of the art" in
this matter
ABSTRACT: Genomic imprinting is an epigenetic mechanism that leads to the differential expression of parental alleles, resulting in mono-allelic expression of imprinted genes. DNA methylation at CpG dinucleotides is an imprinting mark that allows
the transcription or repression of the genes. In the male germ line the heritable imprinting marks are erased and re-established the paternal marks.
Male infertility is a problem affecting many couples and may have different causes. Non obstructive azoospermia with meiotic maturation arrest is
characterized by the presence of germ cells that do not complete the spermatogenic development, stopping at primary spermatocyte stage. The
maturation arrest (MA) may be complete, with no spermatozoa produced (pure MA), or incomplete, with rare spermatozoa in the testis (non pure MA).
We studied the methylation status of the imprinted genes H19 and MEST, by sodium bisulphite treatment, molecular cloning and DNA sequencing, in patients with meiotic MA. We also compared the methylation profiles obtained for primary spermatocytes of pure MA with those obtained for non pure MA.
The results obtained for primary spermatocytes of pure MA and non pure MA suggests that these groups are not different in terms of methylation of the imprinted genes. However, these results reveal that the spermatogenic cells of the patients of both groups presents imprinting errors such as some
demethylation for H19, including the CTCF-binding site 6, and some methylation for MEST, supporting the association between abnormal spermatogenesis and the occurrence of imprinting errors
desresponsabilização do Estado.
The main concern of the subsidized housing was the population that had moved in mass
for the cities from camp (rural exodus) to work in the industry. If the improvement of
the habitational conditions creates mobility social - residential in the inhabitants of these
neighborhoods, it also creates processes of reproduction of a poverty culture.
This way, the problem of the house in Portugal is one of the largest failures in terms
habitational politics, in the measure in that the State leaves the private sector to
intervene in the supply of the goods and linked services to the house, existing a lack of
responsibility of the State.
Simultaneously, the wards of social reallocation, continue to be local of concentration
of social problems, what will hinder a good integration.
This study is happened on the social neighborhood of Cabeço, on Tortosendo, a
subsidized housing neighborhood built in 2005, with the objective of reallocate families
that lived in precarious conditions
Current Applications and Challenges of Next-Generation Sequencing in Plasma Circulating Tumour DNA of Ovarian Cancer
Circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) facilitates longitudinal study of the tumour genome, which, unlike tumour tissue biopsies, globally reflects intratumor and intermetastatis heterogeneity. Despite its costs, next-generation sequencing (NGS) has revolutionised the study of ctDNA, ensuring a more comprehensive and multimodal approach, increasing data collection, and introducing new variables that can be correlated with clinical outcomes. Current NGS strategies can comprise a tumour-informed set of genes or the entire genome and detect a tumour fraction as low as 10−5. Despite some conflicting studies, there is evidence that ctDNA levels can predict the worse outcomes of ovarian cancer (OC) in both early and advanced disease. Changes in those levels can also be informative regarding treatment efficacy and tumour recurrence, capable of outperforming CA-125, currently the only universally utilised plasma biomarker in high-grade serous OC (HGSOC). Qualitative evaluation of sequencing shows that increasing copy number alterations and gene variants during treatment may correlate with a worse prognosis in HGSOC. However, following tumour clonality and emerging variants during treatment poses a more unique opportunity to define treatment response, select patients based on their emerging resistance mechanisms, like BRCA secondary mutations, and discover potential targetable variants. Sequencing of tumour biopsies and ctDNA is not always concordant, likely as a result of clonal heterogeneity, which is better captured in the plasma samples than it is in a large number of biopsies. These incoherences may reflect tumour clonality and reveal the acquired alterations that cause treatment resistance. Cell-free DNA methylation profiles can be used to distinguish OC from healthy individuals, and NGS methylation panels have been shown to have excellent diagnostic capabilities. Also, methylation signatures showed promise in explaining treatment responses, including BRCA dysfunction. ctDNA is evolving as a promising new biomarker to track tumour evolution and clonality through the treatment of early and advanced ovarian cancer, with potential applicability in prognostic prediction and treatment selection. While its role in HGSOC paves the way to clinical applicability, its potential interest in other histological subtypes of OC remains unknown
Rare earth elements - Source and evolution in an aquatic system dominated by mine-Influenced waters
Acid mine drainage (AMD), formed by the instability of sulfides, typically generates acidity and releases potentially toxic elements and sulfate to the environment, among other pollutants. An example is the group of rare earth elements (REE) that may have high toxic behavior. This toxicity leads to degradation of soils, water reservoirs and rivers, promoting serious risks for the ecosystems. So, the main goal of the present work is to study the hydrochemical properties of a system with mine-influenced waters during the rainy season, focusing on the origin, evolution/behavior, and concentration of REE. The study area is the São Domingos mining complex, located in one of the largest metallogenetic provinces in the world (Iberian Pyrite Belt), known by the evidences of AMD contamination. The obtained results reveal extraordinarily low pH (0.4), high electrical conductivity, reaching 26,200 μS/cm, and high values of sulfate and acidity. Regarding the REE, the determined concentration exceeded that observed in normal pH of neutral freshwaters by 2-3 times the order of magnitude. The results revealed that Y and Ce are distinguished in practically all sampled sites, due to its higher concentrations, with maximum values of 221.8 and 166.9 μg/L. In general, the concentrations increase as the water pH decreases. The statistical analysis indicates that REE elements may have a common origin, mutual dependence, and similar behavior during transport with typical AMD elements and composition of host rocks. Most samples show enrichment in middle REE (MREE) (Gdn/Lun), like the classic signature of AMD. In turn, colloids and AMD-precipitates may be participating in the incorporation of these elements. Therefore, due to potential risk of impacts on ecosystems, REE are a topic of relevant interest for future studies in order to assist monitoring processes and help government decisions related to water quality management.Patricia Gomes acknowledges FCT (Science and Technology Foundation, Portugal) by the research fellowship under the POCH (Programa Operacional Capital Humano) supported by the European Social Fund and National Funds of MCTES (Ministerio da Ciencia, Tecnologia e Ensino Superior) with reference SFRH/BD/108887/2015.
