Efektivní kNN klasifikace malwaru z HTTPS dat
An important task of Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS) is to detect malign com- munication in a computer network traffic. The traditional detection approaches which analyze the content of network packets, are becoming insufficient with an increased usage of encrypted HTTPS protocol. The previous research shows, however, that the high-level properties of HTTPS commu- nication such as the duration of a request or the number of bytes sent/received from the client to the server may be successfully used to detect behavioral patterns of malware activity. We study approximate k-NN similarity joins as one of the methods to build a classifier recognizing malign communication. Three MapReduce-based and one centralized approximate k-NN join methods are reimplemented in order to support large volumes of high-dimensional data. Finally, we thoroughly evaluate all methods on different datasets containing vectors up to 1000 dimensions and compare multiple aspects concerning scalability, approximation precision and classification precision of each approach. Implementujeme metody aproximativního k-NN hledání s důrazem na zpracování vel- kých objemů vysokodimenzionálních dat, konkrétně tři distribuované postupy pomocí frameworku MapReduce a jeden centralizovaný postup. Následuje srovnání metod na datech obsahujících až 1000dimenzionální objekty podle škálovatelnosti, přesnosti hledání a výsledcích klasifikace.Department of Software EngineeringKatedra softwarového inženýrstvíFaculty of Mathematics and PhysicsMatematicko-fyzikální fakult
Do size and age of small and medium-sized enterprises matter in corporate social responsibility?
The aim of this paper is to investigate whether corporate social responsibility (CSR) is affected by firm characteristics (firm age and size) or not. The study is conducted on a firm-level data collection through a questionnaire. The paper uses factor analysis to compose the CSR variable and nonparametric methods to examine the above associations in a sample size of 822 small and medium-sized enterprises (454 firms from Czech Republic and 368 firms from Slovakia). The results revealed that the CSR is not perceived similar in both countries leading to country differences. It was found no association between CSR and firm size. Hence, size do not matter in CSR for firms operating in both countries. However, firm age matters in CSR, especially for Slovak firms. Moreover, evidence showed that the older Slovak firms are less prone towards CSR. In the Czech sample, one indicator of CSR reflected positive relationship with firm age. The current study adds to the literature by offering insights on linking firm characteristics to CSR. By studying factors which influence CSR, the paper offers the possibility to better understand entrepreneurship mindset in the context of the Central Europe. © 2020, Centre of Sociological Research. Perceptions of the importance of business ethics in SMEs: A comparative study of Czech and Slovak entrepreneurs
This article focuses on the perception of the importance of business ethics among Czech and Slovak entrepreneurs (this includes business owners and managers) within the SME sector. The comparison is based on an analysis of the approach to business ethics according to a set of parameters, namely company size, years in business, and the gender and education of the entrepreneurs. Empirical research was conducted in 2020 on a sample set consisting of 454 respondents in the Czech Republic and 368 respondents in Slovakia. The most important outcome of the research was the finding that business ethics is considered extremely important in both countries. The research results not only revealed that just over 90% of Czech entrepreneurs and 88% of Slovak entrepreneurs within the SME sector agreed that they should take into account the moral and ethical consequences of their decisions, but that the structure of their answers was very similar. Also, of interest were the findings that women were more aware of business ethics than their male counterparts, as were those entrepreneurs who possessed a higher education over those with a secondary education. © 2020 Sciendo. Can energy self‑sufficiency be achieved? Case study of Warmińsko‑Mazurskie Voivodeship (Poland)
An analysis was carried out to show whether the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship (Poland) could become energy selfsufficient. The technical potential of electricity and heat from renewable sources has been calculated. The calculated values are 6.93 TWh/year of electricity and 15.84 PJ/year of heat—these amounts would ensure the energy independence of the Voivodeship. The Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship is an example of transformation towards “green” energy, it shows that such transformation is also possible in Poland even in short term. This would reduce air pollution as well as limit the import of energy resources. It is very important, it allows us to think with optimism and implement Poland’s energy transformation towards renewable energy (RE). Additionally, a SWOT analysis of each type of RE in the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship was presented. The SWOT analysis makes it possible to identify the strengths, weaknesses, prospects and threats for RE in the Voivodeship and the whole country. It has been found that there is a great interest of investors in RE in the Voivodeship, there is usually a great public support for new energy sources, and the biggest barriers are high investment costs and complicated law in Poland
Do environmental and ethical aspects of interfunctional coordination lead to smaller business performance?
The paper deals with interfunctional coordination (IFC) from ethical and environmental point of view. It will be interesting to know if the parts of IFC connected with ethical and environmental aspects have positive or negative influence on business performance. Data was gained from 60 SMEs producing electrical equipment and electronic components in the Czech Republic. It was used the survey questionnaire and critical discussion with the literature. Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test and Bartett´s sphericity test was applied. Spearman’s rank correlation were used for analysing the influence of ethical and environmental aspect on business performance. The results show: (1) a positive relation between ethical aspects and business performance, (2) no positive relation between implementation of environmental aspects and business performance, and (3) no difference in results in marketing business performance and financial business performance. The results can suggest that, a preference towards ethical decisions and behaviour leads to a higher business performance and by contraries, environmental aspects leads to smaller business performance. The collected data shows that environmental and ethical decisions of managers in the Czech Republic can differ from environmental and ethical decisions of managers in different countries
The perception of the market and operational area of business by service sector and tourism companies in terms of CSR implementation
Our research examined the attitudes of owners and managers of small and medium-sized enterprises in the V4 countries, who behave responsibly - they use corporate social responsibility in their managerial practice on issues focused on the market and operational area of business. The paper is based on a questionnaire survey with data collection from September 2019 to January 2020. Statistical methods of Pearson's chi-square and z-score were used to assess the hypotheses. The results proved that there are significant differences in companies in services and tourism in the context of implementing the CSR concept. Entrepreneurs who implement social responsibility with a significant positive difference agree that a company places great emphasis on the innovation of its products and services. Researchers found that the sector has an impact on the perception of decreasing customers' requests on specific products/services. We found that corporate social responsibility and its implementation in corporate practice positively affects the relationship of V4's small and medium enterprises in the services and tourism sector to service production innovation issues, which helps increase business performance and decline customer complaints. © 2021 Center for International Scientific Research of VSO and VSPP. Silica nanoparticles from coir pith synthesized by acidic sol-gel method improve germination economics
Lignin is a natural biopolymer. A vibrant and rapid process in the synthesis of silica nanoparticles by consuming the lignin as a soft template was carefully studied. The extracted biopolymer from coir pith was employed as capping and stabilizing agents to fabricate the silica nanoparticles (n Si). The synthesized silica nanoparticles (n Si) were characterized by ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectrophotometry, X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Energy-Dispersive X-ray Analysis (EDAX), Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) and Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). All the results obtained jointly and independently verified the formation of silica nanoparticles. In addition, EDAX analysis confirmed the high purity of then Si composed only of Si and O, with no other impurities. XRD spectroscopy showed the characteristic diffraction peaks forn Si and confirmed the formation of an amorphous nature. The average size ofn Si obtained is 18 nm. The surface charge and stability ofn Si were analyzed by using the dynamic light scattering (DLS) and thus revealed that then Si samples have a negative charge (−20.3 mV). In addition, the seed germination and the shoot and root formation on Vigna unguiculata were investigated by using then Si. The results revealed that the application ofn Si enhanced the germination in V. unguiculata. However, further research studies must be performed in order to determine the toxic effect of biogenicn Si before mass production and use of agricultural applications. © 2022 by the authors.
