Convergence of the barycentre of measures from Fuchsian action groups
We prove the pointwise ergodic convergence of the sequence of barycentres of empirical measures which are defined from the action of Fuchsian groups and by maps valuated in CAT(0)−spaces. A result of this nature was established by Austin from actions of amenable groups and defining the empirical measures from Følner sequences. Here we de- fine different sequences of barycentres, in particular we do not consider a topological structure on the group and Følner sequences.Fil: Meson, Alejandro Mario. On the topological entropy of the irregular part of v-statistics multifractal spectra
Let (x, d) be a compact metric space and f : x → x, if xr is the product of r−copies of x, r ≥ 1, and φ : xr → r, then the multifractal decomposition for v −statistics is given by eφ (α) = ( x : lim n→∞ 1 nr p 0≤i1≤...≤ir≤n−1 φ ¡ f i1 (x) , ..., fir (x) ¢ = α ) . The irregular part, or historic set, of the spectrum is the set points x ∈ x, for which the limit does not exist. In this article we prove that for dynamical systems with specification, the irregular part of the v −statistics spectrum has topological entropy equal to that of the whole space x.Fil: Meson, Alejandro Mario. Free energies as invariants of Teichmüller like structures
A Teichmüller like structure on the space of d-degree holomorphic maps on the circle S1, marked by conjugations to the map z 7→ z d, can be defined. Here we introduce a definition of free energy associated to this kind of dynamics as an invariant of equivalence classes in the Teichmüller space. This quantity encodes a length spectrum of rotation cycles in S1.Fil: Meson, Alejandro Mario. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Bounds for Estimators of Ergodic Averages
We consider different ergodic averages and estimate the measure of the set of points in which the averages apart from a given value. The cases considered are empirical measures of cylinders in symbolic spaces and averages of maps given a kind Lyapunov exponents, in a such spaces. Besides we obtain bounds for the fluctuations of ergodic averages from amenable action groups. The bounds obtained are valid for any ¨time¨, not only, like in case of large deviations, for asymptotic values.Fil: Meson, Alejandro Mario. Referee assignment in the Chilean football league using integer programming and patterns
This article uses integer linear programming to address the referee assignment problem in the First Division of the Chilean professional football league. The proposed approach considers balance in the number of matches each referee must officiate, the frequency of each referee being assigned to a given team, the distance each referee must travel over the course of a season, and the appropriate pairings of referee experience or skill category with the importance of the matches. Two methodologies are studied, one traditional and the other a pattern-based formulation inspired by the home-away patterns for scheduling season match calendars. Both methodologies are tested in real-world and experimental instances, reporting results that improve significantly on the manual assignments. The pattern-based formulation attains major reductions in execution times, solving real instances to optimality in just a few seconds, while the traditional one takes anywhere from several minutes to more than an hour.Fil: Alarcón, Fernando. Satellite imagery fusion with an equalized trade-off between spectral and spatial quality
Chaos in Robertson-Walker Cosmology
Chaos in Robertson-Walker cosmological models where gravity is coupled to one
or more scalar fields has been studied by a few authors, mostly using numerical
simulations. In this paper we begin a systematic study of the analytical
aspect. We consider one conformally coupled scalar field and, using the fact
that the model is integrable when the field is massless, we show in detail how
homoclinic chaos arises for nonzero masses using a perturbative method.Comment: 16 pages, Tex, no figures. Minor changes have been added. To appear

The positive semidefinite Grothendieck problem with rank constraint
Given a positive integer n and a positive semidefinite matrix A = (A_{ij}) of
size m x m, the positive semidefinite Grothendieck problem with
rank-n-constraint (SDP_n) is
maximize \sum_{i=1}^m \sum_{j=1}^m A_{ij} x_i \cdot x_j, where x_1, ..., x_m
\in S^{n-1}.
In this paper we design a polynomial time approximation algorithm for SDP_n
achieving an approximation ratio of
\gamma(n) = \frac{2}{n}(\frac{\Gamma((n+1)/2)}{\Gamma(n/2)})^2 = 1 -
\Theta(1/n).
We show that under the assumption of the unique games conjecture the achieved
approximation ratio is optimal: There is no polynomial time algorithm which
approximates SDP_n with a ratio greater than \gamma(n). We improve the
approximation ratio of the best known polynomial time algorithm for SDP_1 from
2/\pi to 2/(\pi\gamma(m)) = 2/\pi + \Theta(1/m), and we show a tighter
approximation ratio for SDP_n when A is the Laplacian matrix of a graph with
nonnegative edge weights.Comment: (v3) to appear in Proceedings of the 37th International Colloquium on
