Fractional charges in pyrochlore lattices
A pyrochlore lattice is considered where the average electron number of
electrons per site is half--integer, concentrating on the case of exactly half
an electron per site. Strong on-site repulsions are assumed, so that all sites
are either empty or singly occupied. Where there are in addition strong
nearest--neighbour repulsions, a tetrahedron rule comes into effect, as
previously suggested for magnetite. We show that in this case, there exist
excitations with fractional charge (+/-) e/2. These are intimately connected
with the high degeneracy of the ground state in the absence of kinetic energy
terms. When an additional electron is inserted into the system, it decays into
two point like excitations with charge -e/2, connected by a Heisenberg spin
chain which carries the electron's spin.Comment: 10 pages, 4 eps figures. To appear in Decemeber issue of Annalen der

Parametric resonance and spin-charge separation in 1D fermionic systems
We show that the periodic modulation of the Hamiltonian parameters for 1D
correlated fermionic systems can be used to parametrically amplify their
bosonic collective modes. Treating the problem within the Luttinger liquid
picture, we show how charge and spin density waves with different momenta are
simultaneously amplified. We discuss the implementation of our predictions for
cold atoms in 1D modulated optical lattices, showing that the fermionic
momentum distribution directly provides a clear signature of spin-charge
separation.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, published versio
Signatures of spin in the n=1/3 Fractional Quantum Hall Effect
The activation gap Delta of the fractional quantum Hall state at constant
filling n =1/3 is measured in wide range of perpendicular magnetic field B.
Despite the full spin polarization of the incompressible ground state, we
observe a sharp crossover between a low-field linear dependence of Delta on B
associated to spin texture excitations and a Coulomb-like behavior at large B.
From the global gap-reduction we get information about the mobility edges in
the fractional quantum Hall regime.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Magnetic loop behind an interplanetary shock: Voyager, Helios and IMP-8 observations
The shock was followed by a turbulent sheath in which there were large fluctuations in both the strength and direction of the magnetic field. This in turn was followed by a region (magnetic cloud) in which the magnetic field vectors were observed to change by rotating nearly parallel to a plane, consistent with the passage of a magnetic loop. This loop extended at least 30 deg in longitude between 1-2 AU, and its radial dimension was approximately 0.5 AU. In the cloud the field strength was high and the density and temperature were relatively low. Thus, the dominant pressure in the cloud was that of the magnetic field
Perilaku Petugas Kesehatan dalam Penanganan Limbah Medis di Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah Ulin Banjarmasin
Hospital waste is an invaluable, unusable and expelled material, which is divided into medical and non medical waste. It is also categorized as radiology, infectious and common solid or domestic waste. (Health Department of Indonesia, 1992). As a public health service, hospital always produces medical or non-medical waste such as clinic, pathology and radioactive waste. It has been organized well according to the rules on health law. Remember that these are dangerous and causing infections, pollution of water, air and soil, accident factor and aesthetics problem. It is purposed to mark the knowledge, attitude and act of health officers on solving medical waste problem in order to know the relation between the predisposition factors (education, year of work, knowledge and attitude), motivating factors (hospital policy, employers motivation) and supporting factors (facilities, information) with the health officers' attitude on solving medical waste problem, as advices for RSUD Ulin, Banjarmasin, in order to develop the quality on giving services. Those things are profitable to compare the medical waste problem solving with the law. Knowledge, attitude and act of the RSUD Ulin health officers are appraised well.- There is significant relation between variable (education, knowledge, attitude and facilities providing) with an action of health officer on solving medical waste problem.- There is no significant relation between the year of work variable, hospital policy, motivation and information with the attitude of health officers on solving medical waste problem. The RSUD Ulin organizers have to relocate and rearrange the place to throw away the medical waste according to the standard health requirements, organizing standard code, standard procedures, socializing the health officers, patient and their family, visitor and people around the hospital trough available media networks
An optimal sensor placement method for SHM based on Bayesian experimental design and polynomial chaos expansion
We present an optimal sensor placement methodology for structural health monitoring
(SHM) purposes, relying on a Bayesian experimental design approach. The unknown
structural properties, e.g. the residual strength and stiffness, are inferred from data collected
through a network of sensors, whose architecture, i.e., type and position may largely affect the
accuracy of the monitoring system. In tackling this issue, an optimal network configuration is
herein sought by maximizing the expected information gain between prior and posterior probability
distributions of the parameters to be estimated. Since the objective function linked to
the network topology cannot be analytically computed, a numerical approximation is provided
by means of a Monte Carlo analysis, wherein each realization is obtained via finite element
modeling. Since the computational burden linked to this procedure often grows infeasible, a
Polynomial Chaos Expansion (PCE) approach is adopted for accelerating the computation of
the forward problem. The analysis expands over joint samples covering both structural state
and design variables, i.e., sensor locations. Via increase of the number of deployed sensors
in the network, the optimization procedure soon turns computationally costly due to the curse
of dimensionality. To this end, a stochastic optimization method is adopted for accelerating
the convergence of the optimization process and thereby the damage detection capability of
the SHM system. The proposed method is applied to thin flexible structures, and the resulting
optimal sensor configuration is shown. The effects of the number of training samples, the polynomial
degree of the approximation expansion and the optimization settings are also discussed
An Exploratory Study of Field Failures
Field failures, that is, failures caused by faults that escape the testing
phase leading to failures in the field, are unavoidable. Improving verification
and validation activities before deployment can identify and timely remove many
but not all faults, and users may still experience a number of annoying
problems while using their software systems. This paper investigates the nature
of field failures, to understand to what extent further improving in-house
verification and validation activities can reduce the number of failures in the
field, and frames the need of new approaches that operate in the field. We
report the results of the analysis of the bug reports of five applications
belonging to three different ecosystems, propose a taxonomy of field failures,
and discuss the reasons why failures belonging to the identified classes cannot
be detected at design time but shall be addressed at runtime. We observe that
many faults (70%) are intrinsically hard to detect at design-time
Sistem Informasi Penjualan pada Karo Rumah Mode di Simalingkar Berbasis Web
This study discusses the web-based sales information system at the Rumah Mode Karo store which has a collection of different men\u27s and women\u27s clothing products for sale. In addition to selling clothing collections, karo fashion houses also sell Tupperware. Karo Rumah Mode currently still sells directly and does not have a sales information system so that it causes problems such as recording the Karo Rumah Mode sales transaction data still manually, the store is difficult to control all products that have been sold and those that have not been sold, nor is the store know how much stock is still available for each type of product, who receives money on the sale of a product is also not well-documented and clear. Then from the problems that arise the proposed solution to overcome this problem is to build a sales information system that uses the PHP programming language and MYSQL as the database. The goal is a web-based information system that is built can make sales both online and directly in the store and facilitate users in sales transactions, report inventory and receipt of money against sales transactions are well-documented and clear. The method used in this study is literature study and interviews / case studies at fashion house karo stores
Mangosteen Extract Shows a Potent Insulin Sensitizing Effect in Obese Female Patients: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Pilot Study.
There is a widely acknowledged association between insulin resistance and obesity/type 2 diabetes (T2DM), and insulin sensitizing treatments have proved effective in preventing diabetes and inducing weight loss. Obesity and T2DM are also associated with increased inflammation. Mangosteen is a tropical tree, whose fruits—known for their antioxidant properties—have been recently suggested having a possible further role in the treatment of obesity and T2DM. The objective of this pilot study has been to evaluate safety and efficacy of treatment with mangosteen extract on insulin resistance, weight management, and inflammatory status in obese female patients with insulin resistance. Twenty-two patients were randomized 1:1 to behavioral therapy alone or behavioral therapy and mangosteen and 20 completed the 26-week study. The mangosteen group reported a significant improvement in insulin sensitivity (homeostatic model assessment-insulin resistance, HOMA-IR −53.22% vs. −15.23%, p = 0.004), and no side effect attributable to treatment was reported. Given the positive preliminary results we report and the excellent safety profile, we suggest a possible supplementary role of mangosteen extracts in the treatment of obesity, insulin resistance, and inflammation
