Fatty acid composition of maize germ oil from high-oil hybrids wet-milling processing

    Get PDF
Maize germ was obtained by wet-milling laboratory processing of domestic high-oil maize hybrids. After separation, the germ was subjected to extraction of maize oil. Fatty acid composition of maize germ oil was determined by gas chromatography. The results showed very high levels of unsaturated fatty acids and a constant sum of oleic and linoleic acids in oils of different maize hybrids

Schizotypy: Current concepts and future research implications

    Get PDF
Schizotypy is a construct used to describe a group of persons with symptoms which do not fulfill criteria for schizophrenia, but have some similarities with this complex and heterogeneous psychiatric disorder. ICD-10 describes schizotypy as a state (schizotypal disorder), while DSM-5 labels it as a trait marker (schizotypal personality disorder). Considering how schizotypy encompasses through the normal, subclinical and clinical population, a thorough theoretical understanding of this concept could be helpful in developing measures of assessment. So far, most of the tools for psychometric evaluation of schizotypy have focused only on abnormal personality. The present article focuses on the evolution of the term schizotypy, its current understanding, the possibilities of psychometric assessment in relation to contemporary constructs of personality and on clinical considerations for improved detection and intervention in this field

Advanced hardware control for seven DOFs robotic arm-neuro arm

In this paper we will implement new hardware control for 7 DOFs (Degrees of freedom) advanced robotic arm research platform (NeuroArm) equipped with various sensors. New hardware platform consists of Nano Pi platform which is used as a PC platform for standard PLC (programmable logic controller's) unit and will replace old system that consists of 7 16-bit ATmega processors. The goal of new PLC which is based on Linux operating system (Debian distribution) that is patched by Xenomai real time system for reducing control response time and better entire system control. Robotic arm is powered by 7 DC motors which are controlled by two PWM4 (Pulse Width Modulation) modules. Position data is acquired from 1kĪ© resistive sensors using RI8 (Resistive module) module and from optical quadrature encoders using one DI16 (Digital Input) module. Also other modules PWM4, RI8 and DI16 communicate with PikoAtlas CPU module by I2C bus

ELECTROCONVULSIVE THERAPY PRACTICE IN SERBIA TODAY

    Get PDF
This is the first survey of the practice of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in the Republic of Serbia. A retrospective chart review was undertaken including all patients having received ECT in Serbia in 2012. Only one center in Serbia offered ECT in 2012 to a total of 54 patients (54% women). Thirty-six (36) patients received acute ECT treatment and eighteen (18) patients maintenance ECT, yielding a ECT utilization rate of 0.05/100.000 population. ECT was delivered with a modern square-wave (brief pulse) machine with EEG and ECG monitoring. In all cases the electrode placement was bifrontal and treatment modified (with anesthesia). The most frequent indication was recurrent depressive disorder (66.7%) for both acute and maintenance treatment. The limited availability of ECT in Serbia raises serious concerns. Provision of updated and effective treatment modalities for severe psychiatric disorders is crucial and the need for additional ECT services in Serbia is urgent

A Two-Field Formulation for Surfactant Transport within the Algebraic Volume of Fluid Method

Surfactant transport plays an important role in many technical processes and industrial applications such as chemical reactors, microfluidics, printing and coating technology. High fidelity numerical simulations of two-phase flow phenomena reveal rich insights into the flow dynamics, heat, mass and species transport. In the present study, a two-field formulation for surfactant transport within the algebraic volume of fluid method is presented. The slight diffuse nature of representing the interface in the algebraic volume of fluid method is utilized to track the concentration of surfactant at the interface as a volumetric concentration. Transport of insoluble and soluble surfactants is investigated by tracking two different concentrations of the surfactant, one within the bulk of the liquid and the other one at the interface. These two transport equations are in turn coupled by source terms considering the ad-/desorption processes at a liquid-gas interface. Appropriate boundary conditions at a solid-fluid interface are formulated to ensure surfactant conservation, while also enabling to study the ad-/desorption processes at a solid-fluid interface. The developed numerical method is verified by comparing the numerical simulations with well-known analytical and numerical reference solutions. The presented numerical methodology offers a seamless integration of surfactant transport into the algebraic volume of fluid method, where the latter has many advantages such as volume conservation and an inherent ability of handling large interface deformations and topological changes
