Determination of vibration-rotation lines intensities from absorption Fourier spectra
The method presented allows the line intensities to be calculated from either their equivalent widths, heights, or quantities deduced from spectra obtained by Fourier spectrometry. This method has proven its effectiveness in measuring intensities of 60 lines of the molecule H2O with a precision of 10%. However, this method cannot be applied to isolated lines
Computational Cognitive Models of Summarization Assessment Skills
This paper presents a general computational cognitive model of the way a summary is assessed by teachers. It is based on models of two subprocesses: determining the importance of sentences and guessing the cognitive rules that the student may have used. All models are based on Latent Semantic Analysis, a computational model of the representation of the meaning of words and sentences. Models' performances are compared with data from an experiment conducted with 278 middle school students. The general model was implemented in a learning environment designed for helping students to write summaries

Europeanization through its instrumentation:Benchmarking, mainstreaming and open method of coordination… Toolbox or Pandora’s nox ?
Understanding Europeanization through its instrumentation raises
the issue of the supposed neutrality of policy tools used as soft modes of action.
The aim of this article is to assess how this ‘new governance’ tends to guide
policy-making on a specific path. Indeed, European construction cannot be restricted
to the direct impact of Community law or to the indirect effects of economic integration.
A new form of non-constraining co-ordination has been developing since
the mid-1990s. In order to explain how the cognitive mechanisms of Europeanization
work, we open the ‘toolboxes’ that allow European institutions to have an
effect on national representations and practices. The use of benchmarking for building
the European Research Area, the elaboration of gender equality policy according
to the principle of mainstreaming, and the open method of co-ordination (OMC) in
the field of pension reforms, illustrate how such policy instruments lead national governments
to meet the competitiveness requirements of the Lisbon strategy

VOCs and formaldehyde emissions from cleaning products and air fresheners
International audienceHuman indoor exposure to Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) may be associated with the use of household products. However little is known about their emissions and to what extent they contribute to indoor air pollution. The French Agency for Environmental and Occupational Health Safety (Afsset) conducted tests in order to characterize VOCs emissions from 32 consumer products: air fresheners, glass cleaners, furniture polishes, toilet products, carpet and floor cleaning products. All experiments were conducted by the Scientific and Technical Centre for Building (CSTB) in realistic conditions of use (in emission test chamber or in an experimental house). Results show that the use of consumer products can lead to high indoor VOCs concentrations. Some of them are toxic airborne contaminants. The link between formaldehyde emissions and product compositions is discussed. Finally, formaldehyde concentrations are compared to the indoor air quality guideline value proposed by Afsse
