The Electrostatic Ion Beam Trap : a mass spectrometer of infinite mass range
We study the ions dynamics inside an Electrostatic Ion Beam Trap (EIBT) and
show that the stability of the trapping is ruled by a Hill's equation. This
unexpectedly demonstrates that an EIBT, in the reference frame of the ions
works very similar to a quadrupole trap. The parallelism between these two
kinds of traps is illustrated by comparing experimental and theoretical
stability diagrams of the EIBT. The main difference with quadrupole traps is
that the stability depends only on the ratio of the acceleration and trapping
electrostatic potentials, not on the mass nor the charge of the ions. All kinds
of ions can be trapped simultaneously and since parametric resonances are
proportional to the square root of the charge/mass ratio the EIBT can be used
as a mass spectrometer of infinite mass range
Clinicians’ perceptions of Norwegian women’s experiences of infertility diseases
Background: Norway has one of the best health systems in the world. However, it has a low birth rate, which decreased by 21.2% between 2009 and 2018, and one of the highest rates of infertility prevalence. The aim of this study is to understand how Norwegian doctors perceive female infertility diseases, namely those that are more difficult to diagnose and to treat, and that are more common in their practice. Method: Descriptive qualitative study was conducted with gynecologists and general practitioners. The sample resulted from the establishment of five criteria and on the doctors’ acceptance to participate in this study. Our sample comprised thirteen highly qualified and experienced doctors. Qualitative content analysis was the method chosen to analyze the collected data. Results: Clinical diseases (polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis and vulvodynia) and consequences of these diseases were the pinpointed themes. These led to a set of sub-themes: the main symptoms and the treatment of the diseases, from the perspective of both women and doctors (stigmatization, disturbances in women’s daily life, diagnostic delay, and governmental support). Conclusions: The three most relevant disorders mentioned were polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis and vulvodynia. These diseases cause several impacts on the lives of women, because they feel stigmatized and limited in their daily life and sexuality, and the diagnosis of these diseases takes too much time. Governments should better redistribute the financing of women’s health and allocate resources to specialized centers.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Particle Motion in Rapidly Oscillating Potentials: The Role of the Potential's Initial Phase
Rapidly oscillating potentials with a vanishing time average have been used
for a long time to trap charged particles in source-free regions. It has been
argued that the motion of a particle in such a potential can be approximately
described by a time independent effective potential, which does not depend upon
the initial phase of the oscillating potential. However, here we show that the
motion of a particle and its trapping condition significantly depend upon this
initial phase for arbitrarily high frequencies of the potential's oscillation.
We explain this novel phenomenon by showing that the motion of a particle is
determined by the effective potential stated in the literature only if its
initial conditions are transformed according to a transformation which we show
to significantly depend on the potential's initial phase for arbitrarily high
frequencies. We confirm our theoretical findings by numerical simulations.
Further, we demonstrate that the found phenomenon offers new ways to manipulate
the dynamics of particles which are trapped by rapidly oscillating potentials.
Finally, we propose a simple experiment to verify the theoretical findings of

Modulation of Kaposi's Sarcoma-Associated Herpesvirus Interleukin-6 Function by Hypoxia-Upregulated Protein 1
Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV, also called human herpesvirus 8) is linked to the development of Kaposi's sarcoma (KS), primary effusion lymphoma (PEL), and multicentric Castleman's disease (MCD). KSHV expresses several proteins that modulate host cell signaling pathways. One of these proteins is viral interleukin-6 (vIL-6), which is a homolog of human IL-6 (hIL-6). vIL-6 is able to prevent apoptosis and promote proinflammatory signaling, angiogenesis, and cell proliferation. Although it can be secreted, vIL-6 is mainly an intracellular protein that is retained in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). We performed affinity purification and mass spectrometry to identify novel vIL-6 binding partners and found that a cellular ER chaperone, hypoxia-upregulated protein 1 (HYOU1), interacts with vIL-6. Immunohistochemical staining reveals that both PEL and KS tumor tissues express significant amounts of HYOU1. We also show that HYOU1 increases endogenous vIL-6 protein levels and that HYOU1 facilitates vIL-6-induced JAK/STAT signaling, migration, and survival in endothelial cells. Furthermore, our data suggest that HYOU1 also modulates vIL-6's ability to induce CCL2, a chemokine involved in cell migration. Finally, we investigated the impact of HYOU1 on cellular hIL-6 signaling. Collectively, our data indicate that HYOU1 is important for vIL-6 function and may play a role in the pathogenesis of KSHV-associated cancers
In vitro sensitivity of Hungarian Actinobaculum suis strains to selected antimicrobials
In vitro antimicrobial sensitivity of 12 Hungarian isolates and the type strain ATCC 33144 of Actinobaculum suis to different antimicrobial compounds was determined both by the agar dilution and by the disc diffusion method. By agar dilution, MIC50 values in the range of 0.05-3.125µg/ml were determined for penicillin, ampicillin, ceftiofur, doxycycline, tylosin, pleuromutilins, chloramphenicol, florfenicol, enrofloxacin and lincomycin. The MIC50 value of oxytetracycline and spectinomycin was 6.25 and 12.5µg/ml, respectively. For ofloxacin, flumequine, neomycin, streptomycin, gentamicin, nalidixic acid, nitrofurantoin and sulphamethoxazole + trimethoprim MIC50 values were in the range of 25-100µg/ml. With the disc diffusion method, all strains were sensitive to penicillin, cephalosporins examined, chloramphenicol and florfenicol, tetracyclines examined, pleuromutilins, lincomycin and tylosin. Variable sensitivity was observed for fluoroquinolones (flumequine, enrofloxacin, ofloxacin), most of the strains were susceptible to marbofloxacin. Almost all strains were resistant to aminoglycosides but most of them were sensitive to spectinomycin. A strong correlation was determined for disc diffusion and MIC results (Spearman's rho 0.789, p<0001). MIC values of the type strain and MIC50 values of other tested strains did not differ significantly. Few strains showed a partially distinct resistance pattern for erythromycin, lincomycin and ampicillin in both methods
