Periodic minimal surfaces of cubic symmetry
A survey of cubic minimal surfaces is presented, based on the concept of fundamental surface patches and their relation to the asymmetric units of the space groups. The software Surface Evolver has been used to test for stability and to produce graphic displays. Particular emphasis is given to those surfaces that can be generated by a finite piece bounded by straight
lines. Some new varieties have been found and a systematic nomenclature is introduced, which provides a symbol (a ‘gene’) for each triply-periodic minimal surface that specifies the surface unambiguously

Diffusion and convection of gaseous and fine particulate from a chimney
Particle dispersion from a high chimney is considered and an expression for the subsequent concentration of the particulate deposited on the ground is derived. We consider the general case wherein the effects of both diffusion and convection on the steady state ground concentration of particulate are incorporated. Two key parameters emerge from this analysis: the ratio of diffusion to convection and the nondimensionalised surface mass transfer rate. We also solve the inverse problem of recovering these two parameters given the boundary concentration profile and provide an estimate of the concentration flux above the chimney stack
The full set of -invariant factorized -matrices
We use the method of the tensor product graph to construct rational (Yangian
invariant) solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation in fundamental representations
of and thence the full set of -invariant factorized -matrices.
Brief comments are made on their bootstrap structure and on Belavin's scalar
Yangian conserved charges.Comment: 10p
Microstructure-property relationships in directionally solidified single crystal nickel-base superalloys
Some of the microstructural features which influence the creep properties of directionally solidified and single crystal nickel-base superalloys are discussed. Gamma precipitate size and morphology, gamma-gamma lattice mismatch, phase instability, alloy composition, and processing variations are among the factors considered. Recent experimental results are reviewed and related to the operative deformation mechanisms and to the corresponding mechanical properties. Special emphasis is placed on the creep behavior of single crystal superalloys at high temperatures, where directional gamma coarsening is prominent, and at lower temperatures, where gamma coarsening rates are significantly reduced. It can be seen that very subtle changes in microstructural features can have profound effects on the subsequent properties of these materials
