Estilos de Vida: Representações Sociais ConstruÃdas por Doentes com Infarto do Miocárdio E Familiares
Objetivo
Analisar as representações sociais de estilos de vida construÃdas por familiares e doentes com diagnóstico de infarto do miocárdio.
Método
Estudo exploratório e qualitativo sustentado na teoria das representações sociais, com 70 doentes e 70 familiares, de dois hospitais portugueses, um no litoral outro no interior do paÃs, de janeiro a junho de 2015. Foi realizada análise estrutural, com o uso de dois questionários, recorrendo à técnica de Associação Livre de Palavras.
Resultados
As evocações dos doentes e dos familiares indicaram fraca convergência entre os dois grupos na representação de Estilo de Vida, contudo mostraram a existência de conhecimentos potenciadores de um estilo de vida saudável.
Conclusões
As categorias Comer e Mudança assumiram consensualidade nos grupos. Para doentes e familiares foi consensual que uma alimentação pouco cuidada representa um estilo de vida prejudicial para a saúde. Ficou também claro que a mudança é fundamental. Tal assunção abre espaço à intervenção dos profissionais de saúde
The importance of family context in alcoholism
In the present study, 56 chronic alcoholics were compared with 56 controls with no excessive drinking habits, all of them male. The drinking habits of their parents were studied, as were parental rearing, dyadic relations with the spouses, attachment to significant people, and the education they gave to their own children. It was noted that the alcoholics' parents had heavier drinking habits and could have acted as learning models. Inter-observer reliability of ultrasound detection of tendon abnormalities at the wrist and ankle in patients with rheumatoid arthritis
OBJECTIVE: To assess inter-observer reliability in US detection of tendon inflammatory and structural changes at wrists and ankles in RA patients.
METHODS: Fourteen consecutive RA patients underwent bilateral US assessment of the extensor carpi ulnaris (ECUT) and tibialis posterior tendons (TPTs) by two blinded rheumatologists, with different level of experience in musculoskeletal (MS) US. Grey scale and power Doppler (PD) US assessment was focused on detection of tenosynovitis, tenosynovial and intra-tendon PD signal and structural lesions (i.e. tendinosis, tendon erosion, partial or total rupture).
RESULTS: The frequency of US findings detected by Investigator 1 was 28.6% for inflammatory changes and 51.8% for structural damage changes while Investigator 2 detected 34 and 53.6% for the corresponding abnormalities. A high overall agreement (82.7%) was found for inflammatory pathology and 89.7% for structural lesions in all tendons. Mean kappa (κ) values for all tendons and pathology was moderate (κ = 0.42), with fair level of agreement for the wrist region (0.27-0.34) and moderate to good values for the ankle region (κ = 0.47-0.62). Subclinical abnormalities were detected in 37.5% of the tendons by Investigator 1 and 28.6% of the tendons by Investigator 2.
CONCLUSIONS: MSUS showed high overall agreement and fair to moderate inter-observer κ-values between investigators with different levels of experience in detection of tendon pathology at the wrist and ankle in RA patients. Further standardization of scanning method and pathology definitions may improve MSUS reproducibility
The efficiency of immobilised glutamate oxidase decreases with surface enzyme loading: an electrostatic effect, and reversal by a polycation significantly enhances biosensor sensitivity
The apparent Michaelis constant, KM, for glutamate oxidase (GluOx) immobilised on Pt electrodes increased systematically with enzyme loading. The effect was due, at least in part, to electrostatic repulsion between neighbouring oxidase molecules and the anionic substrate, glutamate (Glu). This understanding has allowed us to increase the Glu sensitivity of GluOx-based amperometric biosensors in the linear response region (100 ± 11 nA cmâ2µMâ1 at pH 7.4; SD, n = 23) by incorporating a polycation (polyethyleneimine, PEI) to counterbalance the polyanionic protein. Differences in the behaviour of glucose biosensors of a similar configuration highlight a limitation of using glucose oxidase as a model enzyme in biosensor design
