Flavor Bounds and Phenomenology in the Scalar Sector of RS Scenarios

In the context of a warped extra-dimension with Standard Model fields in the bulk, we obtain the general flavor structure of the couplings to fermions of both the Higgs scalar and the radion graviscalar. In the Flavor Anarchy paradigm, these couplings are generically misaligned with respect to the fermion mass matrix and moreover the off-diagonal couplings can be estimated parametrically as a function of fermion masses and the observed mixing angles. One can then study the flavor constraints and predictions arising from these couplings.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, To appear in the proceedings of SUSY09, the 17th International Conference on Supersymmetry and the Unification of Fundamental Interactions. Low-energy effective theory from a non-trivial scalar background in extra dimensions

Consequences of a non-trivial scalar field background for an effective 4D theory were studied in the context of one compact extra dimension. The periodic background that appears within the (1+4)-dimensional ϕ4\phi^4 theory was found and the excitations above the background (and their spectrum) were determined analytically. It was shown that the presence of the non-trivial solution leads to the existence of a minimal size of the extra dimension that is determined by the mass parameter of the scalar potential. It was proved that imposing orbifold antisymmetry boundary conditions allows us to eliminate a negative mass squared Kaluza-Klein ground-state mode that otherwise would cause an instability of the system. The localization of fermionic modes in the presence of the non-trivial background was discussed in great detail varying the size of the extra dimension and the strength of the Yukawa coupling. A simple exact solution for the zero-mode fermionic states was found and the solution for non-zero modes in terms of trigonometric series was constructed. The fermionic mass spectrum, which reveals a very interesting structure, was found numerically. It was shown that the natural size of the extra dimension is twice as large as the period of the scalar background solution.Comment: 29 pages, 11 figures, 1 tabl

Higgs boson production and decay in 5D warped models

We calculate the production and decay rates of the Higgs boson at the LHC in the context of general 5 dimensional (5D) warped scenarios with a spacetime background modified from the usual AdS5AdS_5, with SM fields propagating in the bulk. We extend previous work by considering the full flavor structure of the SM, and thus including all possible flavor effects coming from mixings with heavy fermions. We proceed in three different ways, first by only including two complete Kaluza-Klein (KK) levels (15×1515\times15 fermion mass matrices), then including three complete KK levels (21×2121\times21 fermion mass matrices) and finally we compare with the effect of including the infinite (full) KK towers. We present numerical results for the Higgs production cross section via gluon fusion and Higgs decay branching fractions in both the modified metric scenario and in the usual Randall-Sundrum metric scenario.Comment: 29 pages, 10 figure

Higgs-Radion Mixing with Enhanced Di-Photon Signal

In the context of warped scenarios in which Standard Model (SM) fields are allowed to propagate in the bulk, we revisit the possible mixing between the IR localized Higgs field and the Radion graviscalar. The phenomenology of the resulting mostly-Higgs field does not suffer important deviations with respect to the case in which all the SM is localized in the IR brane (original Higgs-Radion mixing scenario). On the contrary, the phenomenology of the mostly-Radion field can present important differences with respect to the original scenario. At the LHC, the most striking effect is now the possibility of sizeable Radion decays into photons in a mass range well beyond the ZZ and WW thresholds, not due to dramatically enhanced couplings to photons but to suppressed couplings to massive fields.Comment: 19 pages, 6 figure

    Metastable Kinks in the Orbifold

We consider static configurations of bulk scalar fields in extra dimensional models in which the fifth dimension is an S1/Z2S^1/Z_2 orbifold. There may exist a finite number of such configurations, with total number depending on the size of the orbifold interval. We perform a detailed Sturm-Liouville stability analysis that demonstrates that all but the lowest-lying configurations - those with no nodes in the interval - are unstable. We also present a powerful general criterion with which to determine which of these nodeless solutions are stable. The detailed analysis underlying the results presented in this letter, and applications to specific models, are presented in a comprehensive companion paper.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, reference added, typo corrected, submitted to PR
