Greater Resistencia Study Case: Greenfield and Increased Densification
. This paper focuses on one of the relevant issues of the phenomena of urban expansion and densification, i.e. the lack of planning of public greenfields. At the regional level, since 2001, Resistencia City Council has been promoting a growth in height by increasing built-up areas in central districts that have complete infrastructure, through the implementation of the Ordinance 5403/01 - high density. On the other hand, in the last 10 years the population growth of the city (16%) has been followed by an increase in the supply of open space per inhabitant (85%). However, this increase is not reflected in the inner city areas, where the higher population density is located. Synthetic TDR Measurements for TEM and GTEM Cell Characterization

Ross 128-GL 447: A possible activity cycle for a slow-rotating fully convective star
Context. Long-term chromospheric activity in slow-rotating fully convective stars has scarcely been explored. Ross 128 (Gl 447) is a slow-rotator and inactive dM4 star that has been extensively observed. It hosts the fourth closest extrasolar planet. Aims. Ross 128 is an ideal target to test dynamo theories in slow-rotating low-mass stars. Methods. To characterize the magnetic activity of Ross 128, we studied the SK-indexes derived from CASLEO, HARPS, FEROS, UVES, and X-shooter spectra. Using the generalized Lomb-Scargle and CLEAN periodograms, we analyzed the whole SK time-series obtained between 2004 and 2018. We performed a similar analysis for the Na I-index, and we analyzed its relation with the SK-index. Results. From both indexes, we obtain a possible activity cycle with a period of about five years, which is one of a small handful of activity cycles that have been reported for a slow-rotating fully convective star.Fil: Ibañez Bustos, Romina Valeria. Genotypic and Phenotypic Heterogeneity in Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris: A Contribution to Species Characterization.
Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris is the main cause of most spoilage problems in fruit juices
and acidic products. Since soil borne species often contaminate fruit juices and do not need
strict extreme requirements for survival, it is a great concern to investigate whether and how
soil species could evolve from their ecological niches in microbial community to new environments as fruit juices. In this study, 23 isolates of thermo-acidophilic, spore-forming bacteria from soil were characterized by cultural and molecular methods. In addition, 2 strains
isolated from a spoilage incident in pear juice were typed. Strains phenotyping showed that
they could be grouped into 3 different clusters, and some isolates showed identical or quite
similar patterns. Analyzing pH and temperature ranges for growth, the majority of strains
were able to grow at values described for many species of Alicyclobacillus. Qualitative utilization of lysine, arginine and indole production from tryptophan revealed, for the first time,
deamination of lysine and decarboxylation of arginine. Resistance to 5% NaCl as well as
the ability to hydrolyze starch and gelatin, nitrate reduction, catalase and oxidase activities
confirmed literature evidences. Examining of 16S rRNA, showed that isolates were divided
into three blocks represented by effectively soil species and strains that are moving from
soil to other possible growing source characterized by parameters that could strongly influence bacterial survival. RAPD PCR technique evidenced a great variability in banding patterns and, although it was not possible to obtain genotypically well-distinguished groups, it
was feasible to appreciate genetic similarity between some strains. In conclusion, the investigation of a microbial community entails a combination of metagenomic and classic culturedependent approaches to expand our knowledge about Alicyclobacillus and to look for new
subspecies
Glycometabolic Alterations in Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency: Does Replacement Therapy Play a Role?
Secondary adrenal insufficiency (SAI) is a potentially life-threatening endocrine disorder due to an impairment of corticotropin (ACTH) secretion from any process affecting the hypothalamus or pituitary gland. ACTH deficit can be isolated or associated with other pituitary failures (hypopituitarism). An increased mortality due to cardiovascular, metabolic, and infectious diseases has been described in both primary and secondary adrenal insufficiency. However, few studies have provided compelling evidences on the underlying mechanism in SAI, because of the heterogeneity of the condition. Recently, some studies suggested that inappropriate glucocorticoid (GCs) replacement therapy, as for dose and/or timing of administration, may play a role. Hypertension, insulin resistance, weight gain, visceral obesity, increased body mass index, metabolic syndrome, impaired glucose tolerance, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia have all been associated with GC excess. These conditions are particularly significant when SAI coexists with other pituitary alterations, such as growth hormone deficiency, hypogonadism, and residual tumor. Novel regimen schemes and GC preparations have been introduced to improve compliance and better mimick endogenous cortisol rhythm. The controlled trials on the improved replacement therapies, albeit in the short-term, show some beneficial effects on cardiovascular risk, glucose metabolism, and quality of life. This review examines the current evidence from the available clinical trials investigating the association between different glucocorticoid replacement therapies (type, dose, frequency, and timing of treatment) and glycometabolic alterations in SAI
The orientation of galaxy pairs with filamentary structures: dependence on morphology
Aims. With the aim of performing an analysis of the orientations of galaxy
pair systems with respect to the underlying large-scale structure, we study the
alignment between the axis connecting the pair galaxies and the host cosmic
filament where the pair resides. In addition, we analyze the dependence of the
amplitude of the alignment on the morphology of pair members as well as
filament properties. Methods. We build a galaxy pair catalog requiring r_p <
100\kpc and \Delta V < 500 \kms within redshift from the Sloan
Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). We divided the galaxy pair catalog taking into
account the morphological classification by defining three pair categories
composed by elliptical-elliptical (E-E), elliptical-spiral (E-S) and
spiral-spiral (S-S) galaxies. We use a previously defined catalog of filaments
obtained from SDSS and we select pairs located closer than 1\mpc from the
filament spine, which are considered as members of filaments. For these pairs,
we calculate the relative angle between the axis connecting each galaxy, and
the direction defined by the spine of the parent filament.
Results. We find a statistically significant alignment signal between the
pair axes and the spine of the host filaments consistent with a relative excess
of 15\% aligned pairs. We obtain that pairs composed by elliptical
galaxies exhibit a stronger alignment, showing a higher alignment signal for
pairs closer than 200 \kpc to the filament spine. In addition, we find that
the aligned pairs are associated with luminous host filaments populated with a
high fraction of elliptical galaxies.
The findings of this work show that large scale structures play a fundamental
role in driving galactic anisotropic accretion as induced by galaxy pairs
exhibiting a preferred alignment along the filament direction.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures. Accepted for publication in A&
Bifinite Chu Spaces
This paper studies colimits of sequences of finite Chu spaces and their
ramifications. Besides generic Chu spaces, we consider extensional and
biextensional variants. In the corresponding categories we first characterize
the monics and then the existence (or the lack thereof) of the desired
colimits. In each case, we provide a characterization of the finite objects in
terms of monomorphisms/injections. Bifinite Chu spaces are then expressed with
respect to the monics of generic Chu spaces, and universal, homogeneous Chu
spaces are shown to exist in this category. Unanticipated results driving this
development include the fact that while for generic Chu spaces monics consist
of an injective first and a surjective second component, in the extensional and
biextensional cases the surjectivity requirement can be dropped. Furthermore,
the desired colimits are only guaranteed to exist in the extensional case.
Finally, not all finite Chu spaces (considered set-theoretically) are finite
objects in their categories. This study opens up opportunities for further
investigations into recursively defined Chu spaces, as well as constructive
models of linear logic
