Penetration And Scattering Of Lower Hybrid Waves By Density Fluctuations
Lower Hybrid [LH] ray propagation in toroidal plasma is controlled by a combination of the azimuthal spectrum launched from the antenna, the poloidal variation of the magnetic field, and the scattering of the waves by the density fluctuations. The width of the poloidal and radial RF wave spectrum increases rapidly as the rays penetrate into higher density and scatter from the turbulence. The electron temperature gradient [ETG] spectrum is particularly effective in scattering the LH waves due to its comparable wavelengths and parallel phase velocities. ETG turbulence is also driven by the radial gradient of the electron current density giving rise to an anomalous viscosity spreading the LH-driven plasma currents. The scattered LH spectrum is derived from a Fokker-Planck equation for the distribution of the ray trajectories with a diffusivity proportional to the fluctuations. The LH ray diffusivity is large giving transport in the poloidal and radial wavenumber spectrum in one -or a few passes - of the rays through the core plasma.Institute for Fusion Studie
Prevalence of \u3ci\u3eEimeria\u3c/i\u3e (Apicomplexa: Eimeriidae) in Reintroduced Gunnison\u27s Prairie Dogs (\u3ci\u3eCynomys gunnisoni\u3c/i\u3e)
Fecal samples from 54 Gunnison’s prairie dogs (Cynomys gunnisoni) from Albuquerque, NM were analyzed for the presence of coccidia and all were positive. They were then relocated to an abandoned prairie dog town on the Sevilleta Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) site. Six Eimeria species, E. callospermophili, E. cynomysis, E. pseudospermophili (new host record), E. spermophili, E. ludoviciani and E. vilasi (new host record) were found in Albuquerque animals, but only two species, E. callospermophili and E. vilasi were present in relocated hosts. A significant (P \u3c 0.05) reduction was seen in the prevalence of E. vilasi (72% vs. 13%) and in the prevalence of infections (P \u3c 0.05) with two or more Eimeria species (39% vs. 4%) in pre- and postrelocation animals. To assess the impact of the introduction of C. gunnisoni on the resident rodent population, feces were collected from 6 species of rodents. Five Eimeria species, E. arizonensis (Reithrodontomys), E. chobotari (Dipodomys, Perognathus), E. liomysis (Dipodomys), E. mohavensis (Dipodomys) and E. reedi (Perognathus) were found. We found no evidence of coccidia transfer among introduced and resident rodent species
Homalg: A meta-package for homological algebra
The central notion of this work is that of a functor between categories of
finitely presented modules over so-called computable rings, i.e. rings R where
one can algorithmically solve inhomogeneous linear equations with coefficients
in R. The paper describes a way allowing one to realize such functors, e.g.
Hom, tensor product, Ext, Tor, as a mathematical object in a computer algebra
system. Once this is achieved, one can compose and derive functors and even
iterate this process without the need of any specific knowledge of these
functors. These ideas are realized in the ring independent package homalg. It
is designed to extend any computer algebra software implementing the
arithmetics of a computable ring R, as soon as the latter contains algorithms
to solve inhomogeneous linear equations with coefficients in R. Beside
explaining how this suffices, the paper describes the nature of the extensions

Defect Dynamics for Spiral Chaos in Rayleigh-Benard Convection
A theory of the novel spiral chaos state recently observed in Rayleigh-Benard
convection is proposed in terms of the importance of invasive defects i.e
defects that through their intrinsic dynamics expand to take over the system.
The motion of the spiral defects is shown to be dominated by wave vector
frustration, rather than a rotational motion driven by a vertical vorticity
field. This leads to a continuum of spiral frequencies, and a spiral may rotate
in either sense depending on the wave vector of its local environment. Results
of extensive numerical work on equations modelling the convection system

An Axiomatic Setup for Algorithmic Homological Algebra and an Alternative Approach to Localization
In this paper we develop an axiomatic setup for algorithmic homological
algebra of Abelian categories. This is done by exhibiting all existential
quantifiers entering the definition of an Abelian category, which for the sake
of computability need to be turned into constructive ones. We do this
explicitly for the often-studied example Abelian category of finitely presented
modules over a so-called computable ring , i.e., a ring with an explicit
algorithm to solve one-sided (in)homogeneous linear systems over . For a
finitely generated maximal ideal in a commutative ring we
show how solving (in)homogeneous linear systems over can be
reduced to solving associated systems over . Hence, the computability of
implies that of . As a corollary we obtain the computability
of the category of finitely presented -modules as an Abelian
category, without the need of a Mora-like algorithm. The reduction also yields,
as a by-product, a complexity estimation for the ideal membership problem over
local polynomial rings. Finally, in the case of localized polynomial rings we
demonstrate the computational advantage of our homologically motivated
alternative approach in comparison to an existing implementation of Mora's
