Adenylate Nucleotides and 2,3-Biphosphoglycerate Concentration in Erythrocytes of Growing Wielkopolska Stallions
The aim of this study was to examine the relationships between the concentrations of adenylate nucleotides (ATP, ADP, AMP), total nucleotide pool (TAN), adenylate energy charge (AEC) and 2,3-biphosphoglycerate (2,3-BPG) in the erythrocytes of young horses in the period of their rapid growth and development. The studies were conducted on 10 young Wielkopolska breed stallions for two years; Group A: 1-month-old, Group B: 3-month-old, Group C: 6-month-old, Group D: 1-year-old, and Group E: 2-year-old. ATP, ADP and AMP concentrations in the erythrocytes were determined by HPLC. 2,3-BPG was determined using the Calbiochem USA kit. We observed that erythrocyte ATP, ADP, AMP and TAN concentrations significantly decreased with age (p p < 0.05). A significant correlation was also found between ATP concentration and AEC values (except 12 month-old stallions). Moreover, an age-dependent negative correlation between ATP and 2,3-BPG (r = -0.81) was found. The conclusion is that the adenylate energy charge and erythrocyte 2,3-BPG variables in the Wielkopolska stallions mainly depend on age, thus warranting the use of specific age-related reference values for this breed's foals
Транссиб: путешествие во времени
[For the English abstract and full text of the article please see the attached PDF-File (English version follows Russian version)].ABSTRACT The Organization for Cooperation between Railways (OSJD) in every possible way promotes the exchange of experience and study tours for representatives of participating countries and affiliated enterprises. Broad international contacts allow developing mutual understanding, strengthening business ties, transferring knowledge, maintaining historical continuity in the field of railway traffic. At the end of July last year a group of Polish railway workers returned from the Trans-Siberian Railway journey. Judging by the published notes, they had the opportunity to satisfy not only professional interest, but also got acquainted with the history of the Trans-Baikal Territory, the past of the Buryat and Mongolian people. The modern locomotive, unwillingly, became a «time machine» for travelers.
Effect of competition on diameter growth of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) in two-storeyed beech-pine stands
The studies were based on the empirical material collected from 88 sample plots located in 78 beech−pine stands and 10 pine stands with beech undergrowth. The effect of the competition of beech trees from the understorey and pine trees on the radial increment (Δr) and basal area increment (Δg) was investigated. The strength of the competition was determined using distance−independent indices, which did not take into account the position of a tree in the stand. The effect of the competition on the basal area growth of both beech and pine trees was found to be greater than on the radial growth
Procent miąższości kory w drzewostanach buka karpackiego
The paper provides results from the study on calculating the percent bark volume for two beech stands from Stuposiany and from Dynów and Sucha−Beskidzka Forest Districts. The percent bark volume can be best determined using a percent bark thickness method. The percent bark volume of stands from Dynów and Sucha−Beskidzka can be also determined on the basis of their mean dbh, height, age or volume while PVk of stands in Stuposiany can be determined only on the basis of percent bark thickness, the remaining characteristics do not ensure the desired accuracy
Model of the percentage of the stem section volume in the total stem volume for the mountain and lowland beech
The paper presents research results concerning the development of equations being the model of the share of the stem section volume in the total stem volume. The equations were developed separately for the mountain and lowland beech. The equations were the basis to construct the model of stem longitudinal section and then to calculate the volume of any section of the stem
Analysis of height growth phases for beech growing in the lower storey of beech-pine stands
The study focused primarily on the analysis of the periodic annual and mean annual increment and on the recognition of the growth phases for beech growing in the lower storey of beech−pine stands. The empirical material collected from 12 beech−pine stands located in the territory of the Miłomłyn and Stare Jabłonki Forest Districts was used for the study. The height increment of the beech trees from the second storey of beech−pine stands under study culminated earlier than the height increment of the beech trees from pure, one−storied stands. The beech trees growing in the second storey are also characterised by a shorter juvenile phase
Height growth model for shelterwood regeneration of beech
The studies were based on the empirical material collected in 23 stands located in the territory of the Miłomłyn, Stare Jabłonki and Kudypy forest districts. Height growth model for beech was developed on the basis of measurements of 115 trees growing in the regeneration layer in pine stands. The developed function can be useful, inter alia, for building a 'network of site indices' for shelterwood regeneration. The studies on the height growth rate allow estimating the age at which undergrowth reaches the lower layer of a stand
Empirical equations for determination dbh form factors for the lowland beech stands
The paper presents the results of studies, which have led to the development of empirical equations for determining various kinds of dbh form factors. The studies concerned beech stands growing in the north of Poland. Dbh form factors for stand can be determined using the said equations on the basis of the average dbh or average stand height. The same set of empirical equations was also developed to determine form factors for trees
Breast height diameter growth model for European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) growing in the understorey of the beech-pine stand
The study was based on the empirical material collected from 78 beech−pine stands located in the territory of the Miłomłyn (46 plots) and Stare Jabłonki (32 plots) Forest Districts. On the basis of the collected material, a breast height diameter growth model has been developed for the beech growing in the understorey of pine−beech stands. The developed function is an integral part of the growth model for mixed beech−pine stands
