Technological and Productive Density in Sectoral Innovation Systems: The Case of the Brazilian Aeronautics Industry
This article discusses whether a globally competitive high-tech firm is sustainable without being associated with a sufficiently dense sectoral innovation system. It focuses on Embraer and hence on the Brazilian aeronautics industry. Despite not benefiting from a highly subsidized process for technological and financial modernization, Embraer has become the world’s third-ranking producer of commercial jets thanks to institutional innovations, especially in producing and managing contracts with suppliers and risk-sharing partners. The conclusion drawn is that the competitiveness of the Brazilian aircraft industry depends on the continuing supply of technology in international markets. Technological restrictions imposed for geopolitical reasons, or even for market constraints, could fatally undermine the strategy adopted by the company
In pursuit of job satisfaction and happiness: Testing the interactive contribution of emotion-regulation ability and workplace social support.
Política de acceso abierto tomada de: https://v2.sherpa.ac.uk/id/publication/3792The present study focuses on the interplay of emotion-regulation ability and perceived workplace social support as predictors of job satisfaction and happiness in a Spanish multi-occupational sample. A total of 494 working adults (39.4% females) took part in this study. Emotion-regulation ability and perceived support from colleagues and supervisors were positively associated. In addition, emotion-regulation ability and perceived support from colleagues and supervisors showed positive associations with job satisfaction and happiness. Furthermore, considering results from moderation analyses, when low levels of perceived workplace social support were reported, the relationship between emotion regulation and both job satisfaction and happiness was stronger than in cases of higher perceived workplace support. In line with previous studies, these findings suggest that training in emotion regulation abilities may take into consideration the potential moderating role of job characteristics such as support from colleagues and supervisors. Finally, theoretical and practical implications of the joint study of these factors in line with the Job Demands-Resources model and the Emotional Intelligence framework are discussed-Proyecto I+D+i del Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (PSI2012-38813)

What bridges the gap between emotional intelligence and suicide risk in victims of bullying? A moderated mediation study.
Política de acceso abierto tomada de: https://v2.sherpa.ac.uk/id/publication/13768?template=romeoBackground: Recent research has demonstrated that victims of bullying report serious problems, such as de- pression, which heighten the risk of suicide. Emotional intelligence (EI) has been increasingly recognized as a protective factor, but little is known about the mechanisms underlying the relation between EI and suicide risk in victims. This study aimed to test a theoretical model of how EI, depressive symptoms and gender interact to influence suicidal ideation and attempts in a sample of Spanish victims of bullying. Methods: The sample comprised 465 victims (273 girls) who completed self-report measures of perceived EI, depression and suicide risk. Results: Mediation and moderation analyses were performed using conditional process analysis. Findings showed that EI is a predictor of decreased suicide in victims. This relationship was partially mediated by de- pressive symptoms. Furthermore, this effect was moderated by gender, such that the mediation effect was stronger in girls compared to boys (moderated mediation). Limitations: The cross-sectional design and the use of self-report instruments. Future research should address the longitudinal relations of these findings. Conclusions: The promotion of emotional skills could be core to the development of suicide prevention programs in those high-risk adolescents who have suffered from bullying. Furthermore, gender should be taken into consideration, especially with regard to females reporting depressive symptoms related to having been bullied.
One of the main challenges in wireless communications networks between machines (M2M) is the need to provide large number of devices with access to a common communications channel. This is exacerbated in those applications in which the number of devices is unknown. To solve this problem, it is necessary to design medium access control (MAC) protocols responsible for managing the access of device communications to the shared channel efficiently. This project aims to implement and evaluate the performance of three protocols for M2M networks: Frame Slotted Aloha with feedback (FSA-FB), FSA without feedback (FSA-noFB) and Contention Tree Algorithm (CTA). The three protocols have been developed on Contiki OS, its functionality has been verified on Cooja simulator, and its performance has been evaluated experimentally on Z1 Zolertia wireless motes operating in the 2.4GHz frequency band. Z1 motes incorporate CC2420 radio transceivers Texas Instruments, whose physical layer complies with IEEE 802.15.4. Furthermore, Z1 motes have integrated sensors and include a Universal Serial Bus (USB) to be controlled from a computer and transfer the data to it. Z1 motes were programmed with the C programming language, which is compiled using a freeware application mounted on the Linux operating system called Contiki that is installed on the motes. The test scenario consists of a mote coordinator and a number of slave motes or "slaves". The coordinator sends a command to interrogate the slaves, which respond by running controlled MAC protocol rules. The motes are scheduled to execute the different MAC protocols, calculate the time (delay) they need to successfully complete all data transmissions to the coordinator, and measure their energy consumption during data transfer with the Contiki Powertrace tool. This work is focused on comparing the performance of the three protocols; FSA-FB, FSA-noFB and CTA; in terms of delay and energy consumption. We have obtained experimental measurements and compared them with computer-based simulation results with Cooja. These parameters have been evaluated based on the number of slave motes. Along the process, we have identified the limitations associated with the assumptions and models used in the software implementation, comparing the obtained results with both the theoretical and experimental results. Experimental results and the results obtained on the simulator show that the most efficient protocol in terms of delay is FSA-FB when you have a good estimation of the number of slaves. However, CTA and FSA-FB are more efficient in terms of energy consumption depending on the number of slots per frame. For experiments with a limited number of slots, 3 to 10, CTA ranks as the most efficient protocol, however, from 10 slots per frame FSA-FB becomes more efficient. Finally, we have identified the strengths and weaknesses of Contiki OS for implementation of MAC protocols in it.Una de las principales problemáticas en las redes de comunicaciones M2M
