    Monte-Carlo simulation of supercooled liquids using a self-consistent local temperature

    We combine Creutz energy conservation with Kawasaki spin exchange to simulate the microcanonical dynamics of a system of interacting particles. Relaxation occurs via Glauber spin-flip activation using a self-consistent temperature. Heterogeneity in the dynamics comes from finite-size constraints on the spin exchange that yield a distribution of correlated regions. The simulation produces a high-frequency response that can be identified with the boson peak, and a lower-frequency peak that contains non-Debye relaxation and non-Arrhenius activation, similar to the primary response of supercooled liquids.Comment: 16 pages, 4 figure

    A comparative study of the electrochemical properties of vitamin B-6 related compounds at physiological pH

    A comparative study of vitamin B6 group and related compounds in buffered solutions using electrochemical techniques has been performed at neutral pH. Irreversible bi- or tetra-electronic processes are observed for these substances, and the electron transfer coefficient (αn) calculated. It was concluded that either the first or second electron transfer were the rate determining step of the electrode process. The diffusion coefficient of these substances was calculated and the values given follow an inverse tendency to the molecular size. For aldehydes the values obtained were corrected of the hydration reaction. It is important to remark that catalytic waves were reported for the first time for these compounds. Using a model involving the nitrogen of the basic structure the kinetic constants were calculated for most of them

Like one of our colleagues said: ‘after this crisis, perhaps even our calendar needs to be redefined. From now on, “BC” might stand for “Before Coronavirus”’.     Physical education and school bullying: a systematic review

    Objectives: To evaluate the associations of physical education (PE) with school violence and bullying. Design: Systematic review. Method: Using a systematic search in Medline, PsycINFO, SPORTDiscus, Web of Science, and Scopus, relevant studies with a quantitative and qualitative design were identified that met previously established eligibility criteria. Quality was assessed (bias risk analysis) and data were extracted from a previously elaborated template. Results: The systematic review finally included 16 studies, of which 10 had a quantitative design (n = 12795), 5 a qualitative design (n = 79) and 1 a mixed design (n = 86). The high heterogeneity presented by the measures used in the included studies hindered the comparison of the outcomes and prevented meta-analysis of the data. Although there is insufficient evidence about the positive impact of PE on bullying prevention, the results of this review indicate that some aspects of PE programs could improve students’ skills to cope with these situations. Conclusions: The results of this review suggest the importance of PE in the prevention of bullying. Secondly, it is emphasized that bullying situations have a negative impact on students’ enjoyment of PE, leading to detrimental consequences for their physical and psychological health.     Self-reported daily walking time in COPD: relationship with relevant clinical and functional characteristics

    Background: Quantifying physical activity in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is important as physical inactivity is related to poor health outcomes. This study analyzed the relationship between patients' self-reported daily walking time and relevant characteristics related to COPD severity. Methods: Pooled analysis was performed on data from four observational studies on which daily walking time was gathered from a personal interview. Patients were classified as physically inactive if walking time was 3, post-bronchodilator forced expiratory volume in the first second 4, and CAT score >30. Conclusion: Lower self-reported walking times are related to worse markers of disease severity in COPD

    Background: Excesive daytime sleepiness is a frequent in our socirty and a public health problem due to it association with work and traffic accidents. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the relationship between daytime somnolence, as measured by the ESS and shift-work in a sample of local policemen. Results: Our results show that policemen in permanent shift and morning shift present higher scores in daytime sleepiness. Besides, in this study 36,5% of the sample suffered a job accident, and in 9% of this sample, the accidents were associated to fatigue.Fundamento: La somnolencia diurna excesiva es un síntoma frecuente en nuestra sociedad y un importante problema de salud publica debido a su asociación con los accidentes laborales y de tráfico. El objetivo del presente estudio es establecer la relación entre somnolencia diurna medida con el ESS y los diferentes turnos de trabajo, en una muestra de policía local. Resultados: Indican que los agentes que se encuentran en el turno fijo y de mañana presentan mayores puntuaciones en somnolencia diurna. También se establece en este estudio que un 36,5% de la muestra padecieron un accidente laboral y que de ellos un 9% establecen que fueron debidos a la fatiga
