Affinization of qq-oscillator representations of Uq(gln)U_q(\mathfrak{gl}_n)

We introduce a category O^osc\widehat{\mathcal{O}}_{\rm osc} of qq-oscillator representations of the quantum affine algebra Uq(gl^n)U_q(\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}}_n). We show that O^osc\widehat{\mathcal{O}}_{\rm osc} has a family of irreducible representations, which naturally corresponds to finite-dimensional irreducible representations of quantum affine algebra of untwisted affine type AA. It is done by constructing a category of qq-oscillator representations of the quantum affine superalgebra of type AA, which interpolates these two family of irreducible representations. The category O^osc\widehat{\mathcal{O}}_{\rm osc} can be viewed as a quantum affine analogue of the semisimple tensor category generated by unitarizable highest weight representations of glu+v\mathfrak{gl}_{u+v} (n=u+vn=u+v) appearing in the (glu+v,gl)(\mathfrak{gl}_{u+v},\mathfrak{gl}_\ell)-duality on a bosonic Fock space.Comment: 41 pages, Abstract and Introduction revised, together with minor correction

Oscillator representations of quantum affine orthosymplectic superalgebras

We introduce a category of qq-oscillator representations over the quantum affine superalgebras of type DD and construct a new family of its irreducible representations. Motivated by the theory of super duality, we show that these irreducible representations naturally interpolate the irreducible qq-oscillator representations of type Xn(1)X_n^{(1)} and the finite-dimensional irreducible representations of type Yn(1)Y_n^{(1)} for (X,Y)=(C,D),(D,C)(X,Y)=(C,D),(D,C) under exact monoidal functors. This can be viewed as a quantum (untwisted) affine analogue of the correspondence between irreducible oscillator and irreducible finite-dimensional representations of classical Lie algebras arising from the Howe's reductive dual pairs (g,G)(\mathfrak{g},G), where g=sp2n,so2n\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{sp}_{2n}, \mathfrak{so}_{2n} and G=O,Sp2G=O_\ell, Sp_{2\ell}.Comment: 50 page

High-speed infrared phase modulators using short helical pitch ferroelectric liquid crystals

A fast phase modulator based on ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) is demonstrated and its performances characterized. For uniform alignment and pure phase modulation, we propose a new FLC device configuration using short helical pitch material and homeotropic alignment structure. This device is driven by periodic in-plane electrode stripes implemented on the surface of both cell substrates. As a result, we have obtained large phase modulation ( \u3e 2 pi at lambda=1.55 mu m) and fast response ( \u3c 200 mu sec)

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Abalone has long been used as a valuable food source in East Asian countries. Although the nutritional importance of abalone has been reported through <it>in vitro </it>and <it>in vivo </it>studies, there is little evidence about the potential anti-tumor effects of abalone visceral extract. The aim of the present study is to examine anti-tumor efficacy of abalone visceral extract and to elucidate its working mechanism.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>In the present study, we used breast cancer model using BALB/c mouse-derived 4T1 mammary carcinoma and investigated the effect of abalone visceral extract on tumor development. Inhibitory effect against tumor metastasis was assessed by histopathology of lungs. Cox-2 productions by primary and secondary tumor were measured by real-time RT-PCR and immunoblotting (IB). Proliferation assay based on [3H]-thymidine incorporation and measurement of cytokines and effector molecules by RT-PCR were used to confirm tumor suppression efficacy of abalone visceral extract by modulating cytolytic CD8+ T cells. The cytotoxicity of CD8+ T cell was compared by JAM test.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Oral administration of abalone visceral extract reduced tumor growth (tumor volume and weight) and showed reduced metastasis as confirmed by decreased level of splenomegaly (spleen size and weight) and histological analysis of the lung metastasis (gross analysis and histological staining). Reduced expression of Cox-2 (mRNA and protein) from primary tumor and metastasized lung was also detected. In addition, treatment of abalone visceral extract increased anti-tumor activities of CD8+ T cells by increasing the proliferation capacity and their cytolytic activity.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Our results suggest that abalone visceral extract has anti-tumor effects by suppressing tumor growth and lung metastasis through decreasing Cox-2 expression level as well as promoting proliferation and cytolytic function of CD8+ T cells.</p

The prM-independent packaging of pseudotyped Japanese encephalitis virus

As noted in other flaviviruses, the envelope (E) protein of Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) interacts with a cellular receptor and mediates membrane fusion to allow viral entry into target cells, thus eliciting neutralizing antibody response. The formation of the flavivirus prM/E complex is followed by the cleavage of precursor membrane (prM) and membrane (M) protein by a cellular signalase. To test the effect of prM in JEV biology, we constucted JEV-MuLV pseudotyped viruses that express the prM/E protein or E only. The infectivity and titers of JEV pseudotyped viruses were examined in several cell lines. We also analyzed the neutralizing capacities with anti-JEV sera from JEV-immunized mice. Even though prM is crucial for multiple stages of JEV biology, the JEV-pseudotyped viruses produced with prM/E or with E only showed similar infectivity and titers in several cell lines and similar neutralizing sensitivity. These results showed that JEV-MuLV pseudotyped viruses did not require prM for production of infectious pseudotyped viruses

Characteristics of Early Pancreatic Cancer: Comparison between Stage 1A and Stage 1B Pancreatic Cancer in Multicenter Clinical Data Warehouse Study

BACKGROUND: Little is known about the characteristics of early pancreatic cancer. We aimed to identify the characteristics, clues for early detection, and prognostic factors for early pancreatic cancer by analyzing a large number of patients with stage 1 pancreatic cancer. METHODS: A clinical data warehouse that includes databases of all the medical records of eight academic institutions was used to select and analyze patients with pancreatic cancer that had been diagnosed from January 2010 to May 2023. RESULTS: In total, 257 stage 1 pancreatic cancer patients were included. There were 134 men (52%), and the average age was 67.2 ± 9.9 years. Compared to patients with stage 1B pancreatic cancer (2-4 cm), patients with stage 1A pancreatic cancer (≤2 cm) had more tumors in the body and tail than in the head ( CONCLUSIONS: IPMN is closely associated with early pancreatic cancer and may provide an opportunity for early detection. The presence of perineural invasion was a crucial prognostic factor for both overall and disease-free survival in patients with stage 1 pancreatic cancer
