PEDOLOGICAL AND MORPHOMETRIC RESEARCHES IN COLORSO TORRENT BASIN

Several surveys were carried out in Umbria and recurring soil sequences were observed; remarkable differences in morphologic characteristics due to natural erosion’s phenomena and anthropogenic action were emerged. A representative soil catena, constituted by 5 soil profiles corresponding to the most common soil types, was studied. The examined soil sequence showed how soils evolved on the same “parent material” may have different characteristics according to the position on the relief; severe regressive pedogenesis phenomena were observed. Morphometric parameters have been also calculated, about the development of drainage and the basin evolution; remarkable relationship between environment and morphological parameters were monitored

PEDOLOGICAL VARIABILITY IN CHESTNUT WOODS OF CENTRAL-SOUTHERN ITALY

Chestnut has been very important for human feeding and culture during the time. About 80 chestnut woods of the central-southern Italy representative for different pedological zones were studied. It has been executed the description of several soils profiles and remarkable differences in morphological, physical and chemical characteristics, are emerged. Inside the specific geological areas the values oscillate in geomorfological and other essential parameters logic

PEDOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF WINES D.O.C.

In the territory of production of wines “Colli del Trasimeno” D.O.C. it has been executed a pedological survey and, through various inspections in grapevine companies, have been characterize and study several vineyards representative for different pedological zones. It has been executed the description of the soils profiles and remarkable differences in morphologic, physics, chemical and idrological characteristics, are emerged. Inside the specific geological area the values oscillate in a geomorfological logic and, among the pedogenetic factors, the relief has a decisive role

Self-consistent models of cuspy triaxial galaxies with dark matter haloes

We have constructed realistic, self-consistent models of triaxial elliptical galaxies embedded in triaxial dark matter haloes. We examined three different models for the shape of the dark matter halo: (i) the same axis ratios as the luminous matter (0.7:0.86:1); (ii) a more prolate shape (0.5:0.66:1); (iii) a more oblate shape (0.7:0.93:1). The models were obtained by means of the standard orbital superposition technique introduced by Schwarzschild. Self-consistent solutions were found in each of the three cases. Chaotic orbits were found to be important in all of the models, and their presence was shown to imply a possible slow evolution of the shapes of the haloes. Our results demonstrate for the first time that triaxial dark matter haloes can co-exist with triaxial galaxies.Comment: Latex paper based on the AASTEX format, 20 pages, 11 figures, 2 tables. Encapsulation and subsequent freeze-drying of Lactobacillus reuteri CRL 1324 for its potential inclusion in vaginal probiotic formulations

Probiotic formulations must include a high number of viable and active microorganisms. In this work, the survival of human vaginal Lactobacillus reuteri CRL 1324 during encapsulation, lyophilization and storage, and the activity of encapsulated and/or freeze-dried bacterial cells were evaluated. Extrusion-ionic gelation technique was applied to encapsulate L. reuteri CRL 1324, using xanthan and gellan. Encapsulated and free bacterial cells were freeze-dried with or without lactose and skim milk as lyoprotectors. The different systems obtained were stored at room temperature and at 4°C for 150 days. The following determinations were performed: L. reuteri CRL 1324 viability, microorganism released from capsules, survival in a medium simulating the vaginal fluid and maintenance of beneficial properties (growth inhibition of opportunistic pathogenic Streptococcus agalactiae NH 17 and biofilm formation). L. reuteri CRL 1324 encapsulation was efficient, allowing the recovery of a high number of entrapped lactobacilli. The survival of encapsulated L. reuteri during lyophilization and storage was significantly higher in the presence of lyoprotectors. At the end of storage, highest numbers of viable cells were obtained in free or encapsulated cells freeze-dried with lyoprotectors, stored at 4°C. Encapsulated and/or liophilized L. reuteri cells maintained their viability in simulated vaginal fluid as well as the ability to inhibit S. agalactiae NH 17 growth and to form biofilm. Encapsulated and freeze-dried L. reuteri CRL 1324 can be included in a suitable pharmaceutical form for vaginal application to prevent or treat urogenital infections in women.Fil: Juárez Tomás, María Silvina.
