Recent finding in Cordova of block with decoration pseudoarchitectonic with pilaster and garland, that we can tie to a monument in the form of “edicola” with which as much they abound in Hispania, has allowed to reframe questions regarding the arrival of funeral models to the capital of Baetica and its dispersion by the nearest territory. In our work we will make a revision of this decorative type in the peninsular South, to realize of which the used model and the quality of the working turn to the Cordovan piece into a key element in which to the diffusion of this type of monumenta it talks about in Means and High Guadalquivir

Direct and indirect approaches based on paper analysis by Py-GC/MS for estimating the age of documents

The age of a relatively old document is one of the pending issues to be resolved in the field of forensic documentary examination. Although nowadays there are a variety of analytical methodologies focused in the analysis of inks for dating documents, the paper analysis has attained little attention. This work aims to develop two complementary approaches for estimating the age of documents based on paper analysis employing the pyrolysis technique coupled to gas chromatography with detection by mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS): (i) a direct approach using the pyrolytic fingerprints and multivariate regression with artificially aged samples, and (ii) an indirect approach based on the identification of compounds characteristic of the document period. The direct approach has successfully allowed the age estimation of relatively old documents under police custody (up to 30 years of age) and the determination of a relation between the natural and the accelerated aging of paper under the used conditions. This approach is applicable to papers that have the same (or similar) composition and have been stored under comparable storage conditions. Additionally, the indirect approach is presented as an interesting perspective to ratify valuable information of the document age

This manuscript version is made available under the CC-BY-NC-ND 4.0 license http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/ This document is the Published version of a Published Work that appeared in final form in International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants.Purpose: The aim of this prospective clinical study was to evaluate the survival rates at 12 months of a new implant design placed in the anterior and premolar areas of the maxilla and immediately restored with single crowns. Crestal bone loss was also assessed. Materials and Methods: Patients seeking replacement of at least one failing maxillary tooth were recruited to participate in the study. Exclusion criteria included compromised general health conditions, severe maxillomandibular skeletal discrepancies, severe parafunctional habits, drug or alcohol abuse, poor oral hygiene, and a need for bone augmentation. Implants incorporating the platform-switching concept were placed into fresh extraction sockets in the maxilla, with each patient receiving a provisional restoration immediately after implant placement. After 15 days, definitive restorations were inserted. Mesial and distal bone levels were evaluated with digital radiography on the day after implant placement, 15 days later, and 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, and 12 months later. Primary stability was measured with resonance frequency analysis (RFA). Analysis of variance for repeated measures and a binary logistic regression model were used to assess the data. Results: Sixty-one implants were placed into fresh extraction sites in 25 men and 25 women ranging in age from 29 to 51 years (mean, 39.64 ± 6.06 years). One of the implants failed, and one was lost to follow-up. The mean bone loss measured on the mesial was 0.08 mm (SD 0.53 mm). Mean distal bone loss was 0.09 mm (SD 0.65 mm). Over the course of 12 months, the mean RFA value between baseline and 12 months was 71.1 ± 6.2. Conclusions: The implants remained stable over the course of 12 months and had an overall survival rate of 96.7%. Minimal crestal bone loss was recorded around the surviving implants

Exploring the chemistry of epoxy amides for the synthesis of the 2"-epi-diazepanone core of liposidomycins and caprazamycins

New synthetic strategies have been explored for the synthesis of the structural core of liposidomycins and caprazamycins, an intriguing class of complex nucleoside-type antibiotics. This structural core is comprised of a cyclic diazepanone system linked to an uridyl fragment. The various synthetic approaches have in common that they originate from an epoxy amide derived from uridine, obtained via reaction of uridyl aldehyde 19 with an amide-stabilized sulfur ylide. Two different strategies were shown to be efficient in constructing the diazepanone ring system: (a) a reductive amination of an epoxy aldehyde with N methylamine with subsequent intramolecular oxirane ring opening and (b) a carbene insertion reaction of an acyclic diazoamine precursor. This work was financially supported by the Dirección General de Investigación y Científica Técnica (ref CTQ2010-16933) and Consejería de Educación y Ciencia of Junta de Andalucía (FQM-03329). Get PDF
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of sinus floor elevation using sequential bone dilators. Materials and Methods: Thirty patients took part in the study (18 women and 12 men) with ages ranging between thirty-six and sixty-three years, selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, who showed a bone deficit in the upper posterior alveolar margin of 5-8 mm in height. Sixty expanded platform internal connection implants were placed with diameters of 4/5/4 mm and lengths varying between 10 (n=10) and 11.5 mm (n= 50). Results: Data obtained were analyzed using SPSS 15.0 software. The average intra-sinus bone gain with MP3 biomaterial of porcine origin was 4.13 +/- 0.97 SD mm at the moment of implant placement, 3.90 +/- 1.15 SD mm after twelve months, 3.74 +/- 1.05 SD mm after 24 months and 3.62 +/- 1.75 SD mm after 36 months. Two implants were lost at the moment of prosthesis placement. Conclusions: Alveolar lifting technique in the upper maxilla using bone dilators achieved a 96.6 % implant success rate after a three-year follow-up. Intra-sinus bone biomaterial remodeling was 0.51 +/- 0.08 mm from day zero to the thirty-six-month follow-up. This is a procedure that reduces the amount of surgery necessary and is of both aesthetic and functional benefit to the patient

Materials and Methods: Over a 16- month period, 105 (14 maxilla, 91 mandible) expanded-platform implants were placed in 18 patients (15 females, 3 males; 55.97 ±7.25 SD years). Resonance frecuency analysis (RFA) was measured on the day of placement and at 3, 12 and 16 months. All prostheses were screw mounted on IOL DIEM standard abutments. The follow-up time varied between 3 up to 16 months. Results: One implant (0.9%) failed during final prothetic placement (3 months). The RFA (ISQ) measurements at 16 months evalution for 4 mm- and 5 mm diameter implants were: 76.13 ± 5.0 SD and 76 ±7.7 SD respectively. The RFA data related to mandible and maxilla, the day 0 mean was 76.47 ± 4.75 SD and 70.13 ± 1.35 SD, at 3 months 70.53 ± 4.0 SD and 66.07 ±2.9 SD, at 12 months 68.23± 3.6 SD and 66.40 ±2.7 SD and 16 months 68.23± 3.6 SD and 66.60 ± 2.5 SD respectively. The crestal bone resorption was 0.6 mm at 16 months in platform switching implants. Conclusions: The cumulative implant survival rate during the follow-up period was 99.1% Immediate loading on IOL Diem abutments is a reliable and effective technique for edentulous patients in the maxilla and mandible

Non-canonical NFκB activation promotes chemokine expression in podocytes

TNF-like weak inducer of apoptosis (TWEAK) receptor Fn14 is expressed by podocytes and Fn14 deficiency protects from experimental proteinuric kidney disease. However, the downstream effectors of TWEAK/Fn14 in podocytes are poorly characterized. We have explored TWEAK activation of non-canonical NFκB signaling in cultured podocytes. In cultured podocytes, TWEAK increased the expression of the chemokines CCL21, CCL19 and RANTES in a time-dependent manner. The inhibitor of canonical NFκB activation parthenolide inhibited the CCL19 and the early RANTES responses, but not the CCL21 or late RANTES responses. In this regard, TWEAK induced non-canonical NFκB activation in podocytes, characterized by NFκB2/p100 processing to NFκB2/p52 and nuclear migration of RelB/p52. Silencing by a specific siRNA of NIK, the upstream kinase of the non-canonical NFκB pathway, prevented CCL21 upregulation but did not modulate CCL19 or RANTES expression in response to TWEAK, thus establishing CCL21 as a non-canonical NFκB target in podocytes. Increased kidney Fn14 and CCL21 expression was also observed in rat proteinuric kidney disease induced by puromycin, and was localized to podocytes. In conclusion, TWEAK activates the non-canonical NFκB pathway in podocytes, leading to upregulation of CCL21 expression. The non-canonical NFκB pathway should be explored as a potential therapeutic target in proteinuric kidney disease.Grants support: FEDER funds and FIS ISCIII-RETIC REDinREN RD12/0021, PI15/00298, PI13/00047, CP14/00133, CP12/03262, Spanish Society of Nephrology, FRIAT-IRSIN, Comunidad de Madrid (CIFRA S2010/ BMD-2378), CYTED IBERERC, Programa Intensificación Actividad Investigadora (ISCIII) to AO, Miguel Servet to MDSN and ABS and FIS to LVR and LG

    Get PDF
Get PDF
Objectives: To determine the prevalence and factors associated with undiagnosed hypertension in two Colombian cities. Methods: multicentre, descriptive correlational study, with a quantitative approach, non-experimental design, in a population of 2000 inhabitants of Santa Marta and 1000 of Bucaramanga; Blood pressure measurement was performed by using the mercury sphygmomanometer following the technique and procedures recommended by the World Health Organization. Measurements of weight and height were obtained according to the application of worldwide accepted protocols and the identification of the factors of risks through an instrument previously validated by experts; bioethical criteria were respected for studies with humans. The statistical analysis was performed by using the PAST software version 3.14. Results: the prevalence of hypertension undiagnosed in Santa Marta was 6.5% and in Bucaramanga 3.4%; the factors associated in the population of Santa Marta were: family history (0.33), tobacco consumption ((0.97), alcohol use (0.20) and physical exercise (0.12) and in Bucaramanga family history (0.95), tobacco consumption (0.73), alcohol (0.88) and absence of physical exercise (0.78), the reasons for not timely diagnosis, in both populations, were due to the absence of hypertensive signs and symptoms and periodic control of the state of health. Conclusions: the prevalence of undiagnosed arterial hypertension was higher in Santa Marta than in Bucaramanga, while the behavior of the risk factors was similar
