This thesis explores the use of steelpan in the jazz idiom. It includes reflections on the history of the instrument in the jazz context and experiences of steelpan jazz pioneers Othello Molineaux, Andy Narell and Rudy Two Lefts Smith. This thesis also includes scores of seven original compositions for steelpan in the context of a small Afro and Latin-Caribbean jazz ensemble. These compositions have been inspired by the work of the above mentioned 'Pan Jazz' pioneers and practitioners. An analysis is provided for each piece exploring aspects of rhythm, melody, harmony, texture and form

Education reformers and advocates have conducted extensive studies and produced significant research around various models of school turnaround and reform. As a case study for policy in relation to models for school district turnaround, we will explore Houston’s North Forest Independent School District (NFISD). The purpose of this paper is threefold. First, as a study of policy we will retroactively explore the key factors that led to the proposed closure of NFISD. Second, using existing strategies of school turnaround, we will explore potential models of reform that may be applied to NFISD. Third, we will discuss biases and recommendations concerning a proposed annexation of NFISD by the Houston Independent School District (HISD) and how those biases and recommendations could potentially influence policy and ultimately increase student achievement

Diabetics have a doubled risk of comorbid depression that can lead to worsening healthcare outcomes and increased mortality. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) released new depression screening guidelines in the 2017 Diabetes Care manual that provides standardized depression screening. The aim of this quality improvement project was to integrate the 2017 ADA depression screening guidelines using the PHQ-9 depression screening tool in the primary care clinic located in Southeastern, NC. Providers at the clinic received a formal education session by the project leader that a power point, a quick reference handout, an opportunity to practice charting the PHQ-9 depression screening tool in electronic health record, and additional time to ask questions. The Theory of Interpersonal Relations was used to guide the project leader with provider education. A two-month pre- & post-intervention retrospective audit evaluated provider compliance to the 2017 ADA depression screening guidelines. Provider compliance increased from 4% to 30% with use of the PHQ-9 tool increasing from 40% to 88.2%. The methods and tools used were effective in increasing provider compliance to the 2017 ADA depression screening guidelines. Early detection of depression in the diabetic population is essential for early treatment interventions to decrease the risk of worsening health care outcomes.D.N.P
