Decay of correlations in the dissipative two-state system
We study the equilibrium correlation function of the polaron-dressed
tunnelling operator in the dissipative two-state system and compare the
asymptoptic dynamics with that of the position correlations. For an Ohmic
spectral density with the damping strength , the correlation functions
are obtained in analytic form for all times at any and any bias. For ,
the asymptotic dynamics is found by using a diagrammatic approach within a
Coulomb gas representation. At T=0, the tunnelling or coherence correlations
drop as , whereas the position correlations show universal decay
. The former decay law is a signature of unscreened attractive
charge-charge interactions, while the latter is due to unscreened dipole-dipole
interactions.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures, to be published in Europhys. Let
Precision CW laser automatic tracking system investigated
Precision laser tracker capable of tracking a low acceleration target to an accuracy of about 20 microradians rms is being constructed and tested. This laser tracking has the advantage of discriminating against other optical sources and the capability of simultaneously measuring range
Neonatal Fc receptor FcRn is involved in intracellular transport of the Fc fusion protein aflibercept and its transition through retinal endothelial cells
AbstractRetinal endothelial cells (REC) likely contribute to the clearance of intravitreally injected IgG. Because this is of high relevance to the pharmacokinetic assessment of the widely used therapeutic Fc fusion protein aflibercept, we studied its transport through immortalized bovine REC (iBREC) in detail. For shuttling of IgG or Fc fusion proteins like aflibercept, endothelial cells use the highly conserved neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn) also expressed in iBREC where it is down regulated by serum depletion. Therefore, we focused on studying intracellular localization and transport of aflibercept under conditions affecting its interaction with the FcRn. Intracellular localization of aflibercept was assessed by Western-blot analyses of subcellular protein fractions or by immunofluorescence staining. After uptake in a temperature-dependent process, aflibercept co-localized with early endosomes, which harbor FcRn. Similar amounts of aflibercept were co-extracted with proteins from membranes/organelles irrespectively of the amount of FBS in the culture medium. Lowering the concentration of FBS resulted in a strong, but reversible association with cytoskeletal proteins suggesting a block in intracellular transport. In accordance with this finding, aflibercept's transport through an iBREC monolayer grown on porous membrane inserts was markedly delayed in the absence of FBS in the culture medium indicating that aflibercept is taken up but not exocytosed under these conditions. Transcytosis of aflibercept was also strongly delayed by inhibition of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase with LY294002, which affects FcRn-mediated IgG transport. A similar inhibition of aflibercept's transport was observed with IgG-binding proteins (i.e. protein A or protein G) that block interaction between FcRn and aflibercept. Interfering with aflibercept's binding to the FcRn with protein A (or protein G) or the inhibitory FcRn-specific monoclonal antibody 1G3 resulted in a reduced amount of intracellular aflibercept. Taken together, our results strongly suggest that FcRn is involved in transport of aflibercept through REC in vitro
A Four-Unit-Cell Periodic Pattern of Quasiparticle States Surrounding Vortex Cores in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+d
Scanning tunneling microscopy is used to image the additional quasiparticle
states generated by quantized vortices in the high-Tc superconductor
Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+d. They exhibit a Cu-O bond oriented 'checkerboard' pattern, with
four unit cell (4a0) periodicity and a ~30 angstrom decay length. These
electronic modulations may be related to the magnetic field-induced, 8a0
periodic, spin density modulations of decay length ~70 angstroms recently
discovered in La1.84Sr0.16CuO4. The proposed explanation is a spin density wave
localized surrounding each vortex core. General theoretical principles predict
that, in the cuprates, a localized spin modulation of wavelength L should be
associated with a corresponding electronic modulation of wavelength L/2, in
good agreement with our observations.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure
Discovery of a Non-Thermal Galactic Center Filament (G358.85+0.47) Parallel to the Galactic Plane
We report the discovery of a new non-thermal filament, G358.85+0.47, the
``Pelican'', located ~225 pc in projection from SgrA, and oriented parallel to
the Galactic plane. VLA continuum observations at 20 cm reveal that this 7'
(17.5 pc) structure bends at its northern extension and is comprised of
parallel strands, most apparent at its ends. Observations at 6 and 3.6 cm
reveal that the Pelican is a synchrotron-emitting source and is strongly
linearly polarized over much of its extent. The spectral index of the filament
changes from alpha(20/6)=-0.8 to alpha(6/3.6)=-1.5. The rotation measures
exhibit a smooth gradient, with values ranging from -1000 rad/m2 to +500
rad/m2. The intrinsic magnetic field is well-aligned along the length of the
filament. Based on these properties, we classify the Pelican as one of the
non-thermal filaments unique to the Galactic center. Since these filaments
(most of which are oriented perpendicular to the Galactic plane) are believed
to trace the overall magnetic field in the inner Galaxy, the Pelican is the
first detection of a component of this field parallel to the plane. The Pelican
may thus mark a transition region of the magnetic field orientation in the
inner kiloparsec of the Galaxy.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, to appear in ApJ Letters; Figs. 2 & 3 are color

Higher Spin Gravity with Matter in AdS_3 and Its CFT Dual
We study Vasiliev's system of higher spin gauge fields coupled to massive
scalars in AdS_3, and compute the tree level two and three point functions.
These are compared to the large N limit of the W_N minimal model, and
nontrivial agreements are found. We propose a modified version of the
conjecture of Gaberdiel and Gopakumar, under which the bulk theory is
perturbatively dual to a subsector of the CFT that closes on the sphere.Comment: 58 pages; typos corrected, references adde
The potential for liquid biopsies in the precision medical treatment of breast cancer.
Currently the clinical management of breast cancer relies on relatively few prognostic/predictive clinical markers (estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, HER2), based on primary tumor biology. Circulating biomarkers, such as circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) or circulating tumor cells (CTCs) may enhance our treatment options by focusing on the very cells that are the direct precursors of distant metastatic disease, and probably inherently different than the primary tumor's biology. To shift the current clinical paradigm, assessing tumor biology in real time by molecularly profiling CTCs or ctDNA may serve to discover therapeutic targets, detect minimal residual disease and predict response to treatment. This review serves to elucidate the detection, characterization, and clinical application of CTCs and ctDNA with the goal of precision treatment of breast cancer
Higher Spin Gauge Theory and Holography: The Three-Point Functions
In this paper we calculate the tree level three-point functions of Vasiliev's
higher spin gauge theory in AdS4 and find agreement with the correlators of the
free field theory of N massless scalars in three dimensions in the O(N) singlet
sector. This provides substantial evidence that Vasiliev theory is dual to the
free field theory, thus verifying a conjecture of Klebanov and Polyakov. We
also find agreement with the critical O(N) vector model, when the bulk scalar
field is subject to the alternative boundary condition such that its dual
operator has classical dimension 2.Comment: 90 pages, 5 figures; v4, minor changes in the introductio
