Surfaces Reconstruction Via Inertial Sensors for Monitoring

    Get PDF
International audienceThis document deals with the new capabilities of monitoring via the surface reconstruction of stuctures with sensors' arrays systems. Indeed, we will detail here our new demonstrator composed of a smart textile equipped with inertial sensors and a set of processings allowing to reconstruct the shape of the textile moving along time. We show here how this new tool can provide very useful information from the structures

Fabrication of two-layer integrated phase mask for single-beam and single-exposure fabrication of three-dimensional photonic crystal

In this paper, we report a new design and fabrication of an integrated two-layer phase mask for five-beam holographic fabrication of three-dimensional photonic crystal templates. The phase mask consists of two layers of orthogonally oriented gratings produced in a polymer. The vertical spatial separation between two layers produces a phase shift among diffractive laser beams, which enables the holographic fabrication of interconnected three-dimensional photonic structures. A three-dimensional photonic crystal template was fabricated using the two-layer phase mask and was consistent with simulations based on the five beam interference. The reported method simplifies the fabrication of photonic crystals and is amendable for massive production and chip-scale integration of three-dimensional photonic structures. © 2008 Optical Society of American

Description of Fischer Clusters Formation in Supercooled Liquids Within Framework of Continual Theory of Defects

Liquid is represented as complicated system of disclinations according to defect description of liquids and glasses. The expressions for the linear disclination field of an arbitrary form and energy of inter-disclination interaction are derived in the framework of gauge theory of defects. It allows us to describe liquid as a disordered system of topological moments and reduce this model to the Edwards--Anderson model with large-range interaction. Within the framework of this approach vitrifying is represented as a "hierarchical" phase transition. The suggested model allows us to explain the process of the Fischer clusters formation and the slow dynamics in supercooled liquids close to the liquid--glass transition point

    Coronagraphs adapted to atmosphere conditions

In this paper we show new ways to improve the performance of ground-based coronagraphy. We introduce adaptive coronagraphic masks whose profile is a binary version of the instantaneous atmospherically degraded star image. We also propose the hyper-Gaussian profile masks obtained by averaging adaptive masks. In addition, adaptive Lyot stops and hyper-Gaussian Lyot stops are analyzed. Computer simulations show that all these masks outperform the circular hard-edged mask and that a proper mask and stop combination significantly reduces the angular separation at which a faint companion can be detected
