No son simples instrumentos lógicos bajo los cuales organizar una pluralidad de individuos; su función es definir y sobre todo valorar lo propio de la mujer. Disponemos de información suficiente, desde que apareció la escritura hasta que Aristóteles redacta su Política, para saber exactamente cuáles eran las funciones y deberes de la mujer. «A una mujer le sirve de joya el silencio» decía Sófocles (Ayax 291) con tanta brevedad como precisión. Mujeres pompeyanas en el Museo arqueológico de Nápoles

The work consists of the presentation and conceptual reading of two frescoes found in the House of the Vetii, in Pompeii. The representation of two women painters has allowed the development of an investigation of the iconographic value of both frescoes in order to deepening and giving relevance to the images represented; In the present work, the relationship of these images with a certain social function of the Pompeian woman, educated in artistic and even medical techniques, is revealed. This work highlights the apotropaic value of the paintings studied in relation to female fertility, family wealth, and medical science and practice

Therapy of ocular and visceral leishmaniasis in a cat

An 8-year-old, spayed female Domestic Short-haired cat was referred for further evaluation of chronic lymphocytic-plasmacytic stomatitis and bilateral ocular disease. The cat had been treated with systemic glucocorticoids for several months. Initial ophthalmic examination revealed bilateral deep stromal corneal ulcers, exudative panuveitis and secondary glaucoma. Mature mild neutrophilia and monocytosis were detected on complete blood cell count. Abnormalities in the serum profile were hyperglycemia, mild azotemia, hyperglobulinemia and moderate polyclonal gammapathy. Urinalysis revealed glucosuria without ketonuria. Diabetes mellitus was diagnosed and treatment with long-acting insulin was started. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was highly positive for leishmaniasis, and treatment with allopurinol was started. Although specific topical treatment was applied, melting ulcers progressed to corneal perforation and both eyes were enucleated. Ocular histology showed large numbers of intracellular organisms compatible with amastigotes of the genus Leishmania located in the uveal tract, cornea, sclera and retina. Results of inmunohistochemistry staining on ocular samples were positive for Leishmania. Bone marrow cytology demonstrated numerous macrophages with intracytoplasmatic Leishmania. Polymerase chain reaction results on bone marrow for Leishmania were positive. Three weeks later, hypoglycemic episodes permitted withdrawal of the insulin therapy. To the authors' knowledge this is the first case of ocular and visceral leishmaniasis diagnosed in vivo and under systemic treatment in a cat

The Dual Effect of Coordinating -NH Groups and Light in the Electrochemical CO2 Reduction with Pyridylamino Co Complexes

CO2 electroreduction could be improved by applying conceptualized strategies to overcome catalytic bottlenecks. In this regard, we report two new cobalt(II) complexes [Co(Py-2(R)N-3)(OTf)](OTf) (Co(R), R=H, Me) based on a new C-2-symmetric pentacoordinate chiral ligand that are active on the electrochemical CO2 reduction to CO. One of the complexes has a N-H group oriented towards the CO2 binding site (Co-H), while the other has a N-Me group with the same orientation (Co-Me), as showed by X-ray diffraction. We have studied the effect of introducing hydrogen bonding sites, i. e. N-H in Co-H, as a strategy to stabilize reaction intermediates. The complex bearing coordinating unprotected N-H group (Co-H) displays catalytic CO2 reduction at the Co-II/I redox potential (-1.9 V vs. Fc, ca. 40 % FYCO) whereas Co-Me shows CO2 reduction at the Co-I/0 redox pair. FTIR-SEC and DFT calculations identified a [Co-I-CO](+) cation as catalytic intermediate. The beneficial effect of the N-H group has been attributed to the stabilization of reaction intermediates or transition states and by the larger electron-donating capacity, thus enhancing the nucleophilic character of the Co-I intermediate. The study also points to the CO dissociation from the Co(I)-CO resting state intermediate as one of the bottlenecks of the catalytic cycle, which can be overcome with light irradiation, resulting in an increase of the total CO production (-1.9 V, 81 % FYCO, 11.2 TONCO) at the Co-II/I redox potential

Comparación in vitro de la acción fungicida de solución saturada de azúcar y nitrato de econazol

En investigaciones previas realizadas in vitro con solución saturada de sacarosa, eugenol y polietilenglicol 400 secomprobó su eficacia fungicida sobre Candida albicans.Se comparó en las mismas condiciones el efecto fungicida con nitrato de econazol. Una suspensión de Candidaalbicans con nitrato de econazol se repicó en Agar Sabouraud 20 a distintos tiempos para demostrar la viabilidadde la cepa.El tiempo promedio de muerte de Candida albicans en la solución saturada de sacarosa fue de 300 segundos, ennitrato de econazol fue de pocos segundos.Aunque existen diferencias significativas en el tiempo de muerte de la cepa ensayada, la solución saturada desacarosa sería una contribución terapéutica alternativa, en aquellos pacientes con lesiones cutáneas crónicas que noresponden a los tratamientos tradicionales

Polidata: Modelo de inteligencia artificial para la evaluación del diseño de interfaz de usuario en dispositivos móviles

Given the proliferation of chats and prompts for the use of artificial intelligence, especially in the field of content design and generation, challenges and opportunities for design appear. This article proposes the research and development of a  multiclass deep learning model, aimed at evaluating the design of user interfaces for mobile devices, especially as support during the prototyping process of high fidelity interfaces. It also presents the creation of a dataset intended to be the knowledge base of the model. The examples that constitute the dataset have been selected, coming from applications for the Android system, using, as a selection criterion, the consistency and standards of them, for this purpose, the design system Material Design of Google has been used as a style guide. The model has been integrated into an interface that allows intuitively to obtain the inferences or the level of confidence in front of a designed interface that is presented to the model.Dada la proliferación de chats y prompts para el uso de inteligencia artificial, especialmente en el ámbito del diseño y generación de contenidos, aparecen desafíos y oportunidades para el diseño. Este artículo propone la investigación y el desarrollo de un  modelo de aprendizaje profundo multiclase, destinado a evaluar el diseño de interfaz de usuario para dispositivos móviles, especialmente como apoyo durante el proceso de prototipado de interfaces en alta fidelidad. También, presenta la creación de un dataset o conjunto de datos destinado a ser la base de conocimiento del modelo. Se han seleccionado los ejemplos que constituyen el dataset, provienen desde aplicaciones para el sistema Android, empleando, como criterio de selección, la consistencia y estándares de ellas, para este propósito, se ha utilizado como guía de estilo el sistema de diseño Material Design de Google. El modelo se ha integrado a una interfaz que permite de manera intuitiva obtener las inferencias o el nivel de confianza frente a una interfaz diseñada que se le presente al modelo
