Does immediate dentin sealing influence postoperative sensitivity in teeth restored with indirect restorations? A systematic review and meta-analysis
Objective: This study comprehensively reviewed clinical trials that investigated the effect of immediate dentin sealing (IDS) technique on postoperative sensitivity (POS) and clinical performance of indirect restorations. Materials and methods: The systematic review was conducted according to the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses statement, and was guided by the PICOS strategy. Clinical trials in which adult patients received at least one indirect restoration cemented with IDS approach and one restoration cemented following the delayed dentin sealing (DDS) were considered. Results: Following title screening and full-text reading, four studies met the inclusion criteria and were included for qualitative synthesis, while two studies were selected for quantitative synthesis. According to Risk of bias-2 tool, two studies were classified as “some concerns” for the outcome POS. No statistically significant differences were found between teeth restored with indirect restorations using the IDS and DDS approach for POS (p > 0.05), neither at the baseline (very low certainty of evidence according to GRADE) nor after 2 years of follow-up (low certainty of evidence according to GRADE). Conclusion: There is low-certainty evidence that IDS does not reduce POS in teeth restored with indirect restorations. Clinical significance: There is no clinical evidence to favor IDS over DDS when restoring teeth with indirect restorations
Abyssal plain faunal carbon flows remain depressed 26 years after a simulated deep-sea mining disturbance
Future deep-sea mining for polymetallic nodules in abyssal plains will negatively impact the benthic ecosystem,
but it is largely unclear whether this ecosystem will be able to recover from mining disturbance and if so, to what
extent and at what timescale. During the “DISturbance and reCOLonization” (DISCOL) experiment, a total of 22% of
the seafloor within a 10.8 km2 circular area of the nodulerich seafloor in the Peru Basin (SE Pacific) was ploughed
in 1989 to bury nodules and mix the surface sediment. This area was revisited 0.1, 0.5, 3, 7, and 26 years after the disturbance to assess macrofauna, invertebrate megafauna and fish density and diversity. We used this unique abyssal faunal time series to develop carbon-based food web models for each point in the time series using the linear inverse modeling approach for sediments subjected to two disturbance levels: (1) outside the plough tracks; not directly disturbed by plough, but probably suffered from additional sedimentation; and (2) inside the plough tracks. Total faunal carbon stock was always higher outside plough tracks compared with inside plough tracks. After 26 years, the carbon stock inside the plough tracks was 54% of the carbon stock outside plough tracks. Deposit feeders were least affected by the disturbance, with modeled respiration, external predation, and excretion rates being reduced by only 2.6% inside plough tracks compared with outside plough tracks after 26 years. In contrast, the respiration rate of filter and suspension feeders was 79.5% lower in the plough tracks after 26 years. The “total system throughput” (T ..), i.e., the total sum of modeled carbon flows in the food web, was higher throughout the time series outside plough tracks compared with the corresponding inside plough tracks area and was lowest inside plough tracks directly after the disturbance (8.63 103 1.58 105 mmol Cm2 d1). Even 26 years after the DISCOL disturbance, the discrepancy of T .. between outside and inside plough tracks was still 56 %. Hence, C cycling within the faunal compartments of an abyssal plain ecosystem remains reduced 26 years after physical
disturbance, and a longer period is required for the system to recover from such a small-scale sediment disturbance

Phytoplankton of the coastal water between Cabo Frio and Rio de Janeiro were studied at the upwelling season (October, January and Maroh). Qualitative and quantitative variations are analized in function of the hydrological conditions by means of a multivariate statistical treatment of data. Cabo Frio upwelling is responsible for occurrence of a thermocline in the euphotic layer which induces phytoplankton growth, beginning by small-sized species (Nitzschia spp, Skeletonema costatum) and evoluting to highest diversity and quantity of different microphytoplanktonic forms (Guinardia, Rhizosolenia, Chaetoceros, Thalassiothrix). When water column is sharply stratified, we observe Guanabara Bay influence, with high growth of Skeletonema costatum and high quantity of detritus together with blue-green algae and nanoplanktonic forms
Plasma lipid profiles change with increasing numbers of mild traumatic brain injuries in rats
Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) causes structural, cellular and biochemical alterations which are difficult to detect in the brain and may persist chronically following single or repeated injury. Lipids are abundant in the brain and readily cross the blood-brain barrier, suggesting that lipidomic analysis of blood samples may provide valuable insight into the neuropathological state. This study used liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) to examine plasma lipid concentrations at 11 days following sham (no injury), one (1×) or two (2×) mTBI in rats. Eighteen lipid species were identified that distinguished between sham, 1× and 2× mTBI. Three distinct patterns were found: (1) lipids that were altered significantly in concentration after either 1× or 2× F mTBI: cholesterol ester CE (14:0) (increased), phosphoserine PS (14:0/18:2) and hexosylceramide HCER (d18:0/26:0) (decreased), phosphoinositol PI(16:0/18:2) (increased with 1×, decreased with 2× mTBI); (2) lipids that were altered in response to 1× mTBI only: free fatty acid FFA (18:3 and 20:3) (increased); (3) lipids that were altered in response to 2× mTBI only: HCER (22:0), phosphoethanolamine PE (P-18:1/20:4 and P-18:0/20:1) (increased), lysophosphatidylethanolamine LPE (20:1), phosphocholine PC (20:0/22:4), PI (18:1/18:2 and 20:0/18:2) (decreased). These findings suggest that increasing numbers of mTBI induce a range of changes dependent upon the lipid species, which likely reflect a balance of damage and reparative responses
