On the Derivation of Vector Radiative Transfer Equation for Polarized Radiative Transport in Graded Index Media
Light transport in graded index media follows a curved trajectory determined
by the Fermat's principle. Besides the effect of variation of the refractive
index on the transport of radiative intensity, the curved ray trajectory will
induce geometrical effects on the transport of polarization ellipse. This paper
presents a complete derivation of vector radiative transfer equation for
polarized radiation transport in absorption, emission and scattering graded
index media. The derivation is based on the analysis of the conserved
quantities for polarized light transport along curved trajectory and a novel
approach. The obtained transfer equation can be considered as a generalization
of the classic vector radiative transfer equation that is only valid for
uniform refractive index media. Several variant forms of the transport equation
are also presented, which include the form for Stokes parameters defined with a
fixed reference and the Eulerian forms in the ray coordinate and in several
common orthogonal coordinate systems.Comment: This paper has been submitted to JQSR
Parameter estimation for VSI-Fed PMSM based on a dynamic PSO with learning strategies
© 1986-2012 IEEE.A dynamic particle swarm optimization with learning strategy (DPSO-LS) is proposed for key parameter estimation for permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs), where the voltage-source inverter (VSI) nonlinearities are taken into account in the parameter estimation model and can be estimated simultaneously with other machine parameters. In the DPSO-LS algorithm, a novel movement modification equation with variable exploration vector is designed to effectively update particles, enabling swarms to cover large areas of search space with large probability and thus the global search ability is enhanced. Moreover, a Gaussian-distribution-based dynamic opposition-based learning strategy is developed to help the pBest jump out local optima. The proposed DPSO-LS can significantly enhance the estimator model accuracy and dynamic performance. Finally, the proposed algorithm is applied to multiple parameter estimation including the VSI nonlinearities of a PMSM. The performance of DPSO-LS is compared with several existing PSO algorithms, and the comparison results show that the proposed parameters estimation method has better performance in tracking the variation of machine parameters effectively and estimating the VSI nonlinearities under different operation conditions
KAM for the quantum harmonic oscillator
In this paper we prove an abstract KAM theorem for infinite dimensional
Hamiltonians systems. This result extends previous works of S.B. Kuksin and J.
P\"oschel and uses recent techniques of H. Eliasson and S.B. Kuksin. As an
application we show that some 1D nonlinear Schr\"odinger equations with
harmonic potential admits many quasi-periodic solutions. In a second
application we prove the reducibility of the 1D Schr\"odinger equations with
the harmonic potential and a quasi periodic in time potential.Comment: 54 pages. To appear in Comm. Math. Phy
A Deficiency Problem of the Least Squares Finite Element Method for Solving Radiative Transfer in Strongly Inhomogeneous Media
The accuracy and stability of the least squares finite element method (LSFEM)
and the Galerkin finite element method (GFEM) for solving radiative transfer in
homogeneous and inhomogeneous media are studied theoretically via a frequency
domain technique. The theoretical result confirms the traditional understanding
of the superior stability of the LSFEM as compared to the GFEM. However, it is
demonstrated numerically and proved theoretically that the LSFEM will suffer a
deficiency problem for solving radiative transfer in media with strong
inhomogeneity. This deficiency problem of the LSFEM will cause a severe
accuracy degradation, which compromises too much of the performance of the
LSFEM and makes it not a good choice to solve radiative transfer in strongly
inhomogeneous media. It is also theoretically proved that the LSFEM is
equivalent to a second order form of radiative transfer equation discretized by
the central difference scheme
Spectral high resolution feature selection for retrieval of combustion temperature profiles
Proceeding of: 7th International Conference on Intelligent Data Engineering and Automated Learning, IDEAL 2006 (Burgos, Spain, September 20-23, 2006)The use of high spectral resolution measurements to obtain a retrieval of certain physical properties related with the radiative transfer of energy leads a priori to a better accuracy. But this improvement in accuracy is not easy to achieve due to the great amount of data which makes difficult any treatment over it and it's redundancies. To solve this problem, a pick selection based on principal component analysis has been adopted in order to make the mandatory feature selection over the different channels. In this paper, the capability to retrieve the temperature profile in a combustion environment using neural networks jointly with this spectral high resolution feature selection method is studied.Publicad
Self-driven electron enrichment of ultrafine PdAu nanoparticles for electrochemical CO2 reduction:High applicability of work function as an activity descriptor
Highly coupled metal/dopant-incorporated carbon dyads provide a possibility to modulate the electron density of metallic materials by forming a rectifying interface, thus showing an enhanced activity in electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (ECRR). However, understanding the promotion effects of dopants for ECRR is limited to the prediction by theoretical interpretation and case-by-case studies. Herein, we report the direct experimental evidence that the work function, regulated by single structural factor-dopant contents, is significantly correlated to the ECRR reaction activity and kinetics. We prepared a series of PdAu/NxC electrocatalysts composed of ultrafine (∼5.7 nm) PdAu bimetallic nanoparticles and tailorable N-doped carbon supports. The wide range of the amount of N dopants allowed the modification of the band gap of the carbon easily. Using ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS) measurements, we demonstrate that the reactivity and kinetics trends of the PdAu/NxC in the ECRR can be intrinsically correlated with the work function of the catalysts. PdAu/N7.50C electrocatalyst with the highest N contents displays a 100% CO2-to-CO conversion and high conversion efficiency over a wide potential window, superior over other reported PdAu catalysts. This work provides a novel way to boost ECRR performance by deliberately lowering the work function of the metal/carbon electrocatalysts through the enhancement by dopants.</p
Properties and Performance of Two Wide Field of View Cherenkov/Fluorescence Telescope Array Prototypes
A wide field of view Cherenkov/fluorescence telescope array is one of the
main components of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory project. To
serve as Cherenkov and fluorescence detectors, a flexible and mobile design is
adopted for easy reconfiguring of the telescope array. Two prototype telescopes
have been constructed and successfully run at the site of the ARGO-YBJ
experiment in Tibet. The features and performance of the telescopes are
presented
Knotlike Cosmic Strings in The Early Universe
In this paper, the knotlike cosmic strings in the Riemann-Cartan space-time
of the early universe are discussed. It has been revealed that the cosmic
strings can just originate from the zero points of the complex scalar
quintessence field. In these strings we mainly study the knotlike
configurations. Based on the integral of Chern-Simons 3-form a topological
invariant for knotlike cosmic strings is constructed, and it is shown that this
invariant is just the total sum of all the self-linking and linking numbers of
the knots family. Furthermore, it is also pointed out that this invariant is
preserved in the branch processes during the evolution of cosmic strings
The controlled teleportation of an arbitrary two-atom entangled state in driven cavity QED
In this paper, we propose a scheme for the controlled teleportation of an
arbitrary two-atom entangled state
in driven cavity QED.
An arbitrary two-atom entangled state can be teleported perfectly with the help
of the cooperation of the third side by constructing a three-atom GHZ entangled
state as the controlled channel. This scheme does not involve apparent (or
direct) Bell-state measurement and is insensitive to the cavity decay and the
thermal field. The probability of the success in our scheme is 1.0.Comment: 10 page
