Reflecting on Modern Public-School Teacher Experience: An Overview of Select Challenges Facing the Educator Workforce with an Emphasis on Teachers of Color
New demographic research shows that the school-aged population in the U.S. is rapidly diversifying in terms of student racial and ethnic identity. However, as the educator workforce also diversifies, teachers of color are less likely than White teachers to remain in the profession and persist at their current school. This backgrounder reviews a growing body of research outlining the multiple social and academic benefits associated with increasing diversity in the educator workforce. In addition, research on school working conditions, with a specific focus on accountability reforms and practices, and its impact on the retention of teachers of color is discussed. The backgrounder concludes by framing additional areas of research related to the current experiences of teachers and the workforce.Educatio

Open market operations--the purchase and sale of Treasury and federal agency securities--are the Federal Reserve's principal tool for implementing monetary policy. The objectives and conduct of open market operations have continued to evolve in the 1990s, partly in response to the way the Federal Open Market Committee implements monetary policy and explains it to the public. Also shaping operations have been changes in financial markets, including developments in the market for repurchase agreements and declines in the balances that depository institutions must hold at the Federal Reserve.Federal Open Market Committee ; Open market operations

You can lead a horse to water… are clinical students getting the message about the library and information skills support that is available?
Cambridge University Library is the recipient of a grant from the Arcadia Trust
to investigate issues and challenges in delivering academic library services in the
digital era. One project under this auspice has been IRIS: Induction, Research
and Information Skills, which attempted to map the information skills and needs
of students at Cambridge University. The results of this study will be used to provide
information in planning future services and facilities for students. Students
were invited to complete an online survey asking about which online information
resources they use most frequently, from whom they hear about new resources,
and where they go for help with information-seeking. Librarians across the tripartite
Cambridge system, in 60 college, department, and University libraries,
were also surveyed with regard to what training, induction, and support they
offered and to whom. This article will focus on the responses of 115 medical students
who participated in the survey, accounting for 6.5% of the total survey
responses. While acknowledging that student respondents were self-selecting, the
results raise questions about how well the librarians’ message is getting across
and how librarians can better serve students in the digital age

These plans and systems may be applied to the state-level transportation agency�s disaster response systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Specific guidance and management techniques are provided to aid emergency planning staff to create DHS-compliant systems
Transportation, Terrorism and Crime: Deterrence, Disruption and Resilience
Abstract: Terrorists likely have adopted vehicle ramming as a tactic because it can be carried out by an individual (or “lone wolf terrorist”), and because the skills required are minimal (e.g. the ability to drive a car and determine locations for creating maximum carnage). Studies of terrorist activities against transportation assets have been conducted to help law enforcement agencies prepare their communities, create mitigation measures, conduct effective surveillance and respond quickly to attacks.
This study reviews current research on terrorist tactics against transportation assets, with an emphasis on vehicle ramming attacks. It evaluates some of the current attack strategies, and the possible mitigation or response tactics that may be effective in deterring attacks or saving lives in the event of an attack. It includes case studies that can be used as educational tools for understanding terrorist methodologies, as well as ordinary emergencies that might become a terrorist’s blueprint
A forebody design technique for highly integrated bottom-mounted scramjets with application to a hypersonic research airplane
An inviscid technique for designing forebodies which produce uniformly precompressed flows at the inlet entrance for bottom-mounted scramjets has been developed so that geometric constraints resulting from design trade-offs can be effectively evaluated. The flow fields resulting from several forebody designs generated in support of a hypersonic research airplane conceptual design study have been analyzed in detail with three-dimensional characteristics calculations to verify the uniform flow conditions. For the designs analyzed, uniform flow is maintained over a wide range of flight conditions (Mach number equals 4 to 10; angle of attack equals 6 deg to 10 deg) corresponding to scramjet operation flight envelope of the research airplane

Teaching Students with Special Needs in School-Based, Agricultural Education: A Historical Inquiry
The purpose of this historical study was to investigate the inclusion of students with special needs in school-based, agricultural education as reported by The Agricultural Education Magazine and the Journal of Agricultural Education over a time period of six decades. The impact of landmark legislation, such as the Vocational Education Act of 1963, the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, the Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975, and the Individuals with Disabilities Act of 1990, were examined. This legislation motivated and supported agricultural education’s efforts to meet the learning needs of special education students by providing modified lessons and learning environments, inclusive SAEs and FFA activities, and focused teacher preparation. Challenges and concerns regarding the placement of special needs students in school-based, agricultural education are also discussed, as well as opportunities for related research in the future, especially about their participation in the FFA
Galaxy population properties in the rich clusters MS0839.8+2938, 1224.7+2007 and 1231.3+1542
This paper discusses the galaxy populations of three rich clusters, with
redshift 0.19 (0839+29), 0.24 (1231+15), and 0.32 (1224+20), from the database
of the CNOC1 consortium. The data consist of spectra of 52 cluster members for
0839+29, 30 members for 1224+15, and 82 members for 1231+15, and there are
comparable numbers of field galaxy spectra. 0839+29 is compact with no strong
radial gradients, and possibly dusty. 1224+20 is isolated in redshift, has low
velocity dispersion around the cD galaxy, and low 4000A break. 1231+15 is
asymmetrical and we discuss the possibility that it may be a recent merger of
two old clusters. We find few galaxies in 0839+29 and 1231+15 with ongoing or
