50 Years of Student Research at Governors State University
The three pillars that provide the foundations for the excellent education at GSU are teaching, research, and service. Faculty and students have engaged in myriad of research activities since the inception of GSU in 1969. This presentation highlights the efforts, successes, and triumphs of students research in the last fifty years. Prior to 1995, students engaged in research, published in journals, and presented their work in professional conferences. A formal forum in the form of an Annual GSU Student Research Conference was introduced in 1995 by the Provost Office to provide students to present their research work before an audience of their peers. This annual event generated enthusiasm and encouraged students to pursue research, and amplified the level of publications and presentations at external conferences. The Office of Student Life extended the helping hand to students by providing funds for presentations at the professional conferences. In 2013, an undergraduate research program was created by the Provost Office to promote research starting at the early years of college, which resulted in the First Annual Undergraduate Symposium in 2014. After 21 years of the Annual GSU Student Research Conference and the Second Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium, the Provost Office created the Research Day in 2016 to embrace not only these two conferences, but to include faculty research. This year marks the fourth Annual Research Day, which has grown ever since its inception. This presentation will focus on the student research prior to 1995, from 1995 to 2015, and 2016 to present
Taguchi Method and Artificial Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) based Validation of Enzyme Production: A review
Numbers of reports on enzyme production enhancements (from bacteria and fungi) are present in the literature by using One Variable at Time (OVAT) based optimization of medium components. OVAT strategy is not suitable for the cost-effective production of enzymes in lieu of modern statistical and artificially intelligent techniques like Response Surface Methodology (RSM), Taguchi Method and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Artificial Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) etc. The Taguchi Method and ANFIS enzyme yield prediction results are in consonance with those produced by the RSM system and in fact are more closer to the actual enzyme yield. This shows the application of the proposed system in enzyme yield prediction given a set of parameter values

Opportunities and Challenges of Handwritten Sanskrit Character Recognition System
The rapid growth in the field of internet facilities and digitalization, changes the living way of human being. Due to internet facilities and services, anyone can access data from anywhere. A lot of online data are generating day by day, so that data needs to be processed before extracting the information. Therefore the demand of Natural language Processing (NLP) Techniques has been increased. The Pattern recognition is sub-field of NLP. The field of Pattern Recognition is a branch of machine learning that contributed up to great extent in the Computer Vision and Machine Vision applications. Pattern Recognition is concerned with the recognition of patterns and regularities in data. Handwriting recognition is one of the challenging subtask and current research field under Pattern Recognition, due to different ways of writing and handwriting styles. Handwritten Sanskrit Characters recognition is more complicated than other languages works in online and offline mode, because Sanskrit characters have more consonants and modifiers. In this paper discussed the opportunities and challenges of Handwritten Sanskrit Character Recognition System
