Women with polycystic ovary syndrome are burdened with multimorbidity and medication use independent of body mass index at late fertile age : A population-based cohort study
Introduction This population-based follow-up study investigated the comorbidities, medication use, and healthcare services among women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) at age 46 years. Material and methods The study population derived from the Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1966 and consisted of women reporting oligo/amenorrhea and hirsutism at age 31 years and/or a PCOS diagnosis by age 46 years (n = 246) and controls without PCOS symptoms or diagnosis (n = 1573), referred to as non-PCOS women. The main outcome measures were self-reported data on symptoms, diagnosed diseases, and medication and healthcare service use at the age of 46 years. Results Overall morbidity risk was increased by 35% (risk ratio [RR] 1.35, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.16-1.57) and medication use by 27% [RR 1.27, 95% CI 1.08-1.50) compared with non-PCOS women, and the risk remained after adjusting for body mass index. Diagnoses with increased prevalence in women with PCOS were migraine, hypertension, tendinitis, osteoarthritis, fractures, and endometriosis. PCOS was also associated with autoimmune diseases and recurrent upper respiratory tract infections and symptoms. Interestingly, healthcare service use did not differ between the study groups after adjusting for body mass index. Conclusions Women with PCOS are burdened with multimorbidity and higher medication use, independent of body mass index.Peer reviewe
Binding energies of ground and isomeric states in neutron-rich ruthenium isotopes: measurements at JYFLTRAP and comparison to theory
We report on precision mass measurements of Ru performed with
the JYFLTRAP double Penning trap mass spectrometer at the Accelerator
Laboratory of University of Jyv\"askyl\"a. The phase-imaging
ion-cyclotron-resonance technique was used to resolve the ground and isomeric
states in Ru and enabled for the first time a measurement of the
isomer excitation energies, Ru keV and
Ru keV. The ground state of Ru was measured
using the time-of-flight ion-cyclotron-resonance technique. The new mass-excess
value for Ru is around 36 keV lower and 7 times more precise than the
previous literature value. With the more precise ground-state mass values, the
evolution of the two-neutron separation energies is further constrained and a
similar trend as predicted by the BSkG1 model is obtained up to the neutron

Stainless steel weld metal designed to mitigate residual stresses
There have been considerable efforts to create welding consumables which on solid state phase transformation partly compensate for the stresses which develop when a constrained weld cools to ambient temperatures. All of these efforts have focused on structural steels which are ferritic. In the present work, alloy design methods have been used to create a stainless steel welding consumable which solidifies as Ī“ ferrite, transforms almost entirely into austenite which then undergoes martensitic transformation at a low temperature of about 220ā¦C. At the same time, the carbon concentration has been kept to a minimum to avoid phenomena such as sensitisation. The measured mechanical properties, especially toughness, seem to be significantly better than commercially available martensitic stainless steel welding consumables, and it has been demonstrated that the use of the new alloy reduces distortion in the final joint
Nuclear charge radius of Al and its implication for V in the quark-mixing matrix
Collinear laser spectroscopy was performed on the isomer of the aluminium
isotope Al. The measured isotope shift to Al in the
3s^{2}3p\;^{2}\!P^\circ_{3/2} \rightarrow 3s^{2}4s\;^{2}\!S_{1/2} atomic
transition enabled the first experimental determination of the nuclear charge
radius of Al, resulting in =\qty{3.130\pm.015}{\femto\meter}. This
differs by 4.5 standard deviations from the extrapolated value used to
calculate the isospin-symmetry breaking corrections in the superallowed
decay of Al. Its corrected value, important for the
estimation of in the CKM matrix, is thus shifted by one standard
