The inclusive reaction pA→pKs0+Xp A \to pK^0_s + X was studied at IHEP accelerator with 70GeV70 GeV proton beam using SVD-2 detector. Two different samples of Ks0K^0_s, statistically independent and belonging to different phase space regions were used in the analyses and a narrow baryon resonance with the mass M=1523±2(stat.)±3(syst.)MeV/c2M=1523\pm 2(stat.)\pm 3(syst.) MeV/c^2 was observed in both samples of the dataComment: 3 pages, 6 figures, to be published in the Proceedings of the XXXIII International Conference of High Energy Physics (ICHEP'06), Moscow, 200

Absence of evidence for pentaquarks on the lattice

We study the question of whether or not QCD predicts a pentaquark state. We use the improved, fixed point lattice QCD action which has very little sensitivity to the lattice spacing and also allows us to reach light quark masses. The analysis was performed on a single volume of size (1.8fm)3×3.6fm(1.8 {\rm fm})^3\times 3.6 {\rm fm} with lattice spacing of a=0.102a=0.102 fm. We use the correlation matrix method to identify the ground and excited states in the isospin 0, negative parity channel. In the quenched approximation where dynamical quark effects are omitted, we do not find any evidence for a pentaquark resonance in QCD.Comment: 17 pages, 5 figures replaced with revised versio

The collective quantization of three-flavored Skyrmions revisited

A self-consistent large NcN_c approach is developed for the collective quantization of SU(3) flavor hedgehog solitons, such as the Skyrmion. The key to this analysis is the determination of all of the zero modes associated with small fluctuations around the hedgehog. These are used in the conventional way to construct collective coordinates. This approach differs from previous work in that it does not implicitly assume that each static zero mode is associated with a dynamical zero mode. It is demonstrated explicitly in the context of the Skyrmion that there are fewer dynamical zero modes than static ones due to the Witten-Wess-Zumino term in the action. Group-theoretic methods are employed to identify the physical states resulting from canonical quantization of the collectively rotating soliton. The collective states fall into representations of SU(3) flavor labeled by (p,q)(p,q) and are given by (2J,Nc2−J)(2J, \frac{Nc}{2} -J) where J=1/2,3/2,...J={1/2},{3/2},... is the spin of the collective state. States with strangeness S>0S > 0 do not arise as collective states from this procedure; thus the θ+\theta^{+} (pentaquark) resonance does not arise as a collective excitation in models of this type.Comment: 12 pages; uses package "youngtab

Positive parity pentaquark towers in large Nc QCD

    Get PDF
We construct the complete set of positive parity pentaquarks, which correspond in the quark model to {\bar s} q^{Nc+1} states with one unit of orbital angular momentum L=1. In the large Nc limit they fall into the K=1/2 and K=3/2 irreps (towers) of the contracted SU(4)c symmetry. We derive predictions for the mass spectrum and the axial couplings of these states at leading order in 1/Nc. The strong decay width of the lowest-lying positive parity exotic state is of order O(1/Nc), such that this state is narrow in the large Nc limit. Replacing the antiquark with a heavy antiquark {\bar Q} q^{Nc+1}, the two towers become degenerate, split only by O(1/mQ) hyperfine interactions. We obtain predictions for the strong decay widths of heavy pentaquarks to ordinary baryons and heavy H(*)_{\bar Q} mesons at leading order in 1/Nc and 1/mQ.Comment: 21 pages, 2 figures, 5 table

Some (further) Comments on the Theta(1540) Pentaquark

Additional broader I=0 states in the KN channel near Θ+\Theta^+(1540) are expected in many models, making the absence of any signature in the K+^+-deuteron scattering data even more puzzling. In an ideal "three-body" picture the Θ\Theta is viewed as two compact ud(1)ud(2) 3ˉ\bar{3} color diquarks and an sˉ\bar{s} quark. A "QCD-type" inequality involving m(Θ+),m(Λ)m(\Theta^+), m(\Lambda), the mass of the Λ(1/2−)\Lambda(1/2^-) L=1 excitation and that of a new I=0 tetraquark vector meson then follows. The inequality suggests a very light new vector meson, and is violated. We note that "associated production" of the pentaquark with another quadriquark or anti-pentaquark may be favored. This along with some estimates of the actual production cross sections suggest that the Θ\Theta can be found in BaBar or Belle e+^+-e−^- colliders.Comment: 6 page
