Evaluation of the Agile Manifesto within Business Strategies

    Get PDF
Every institution, company or single person needs a guideline aligning specific actions, processes and assets to an overall target. Recent research shows that guidelines of enterprises within the manufacturing branch or more specific within the automotive industry are almost identical. But new and emerging competitors force the traditional industry to adapt its business strategy and especially to increase flexibility. The internal and external changes within the manufacturing environment support this trend. The lead times are constantly shrinking and an increasing variety in customer demands has to be handled via new platforms and models. In conclusion, enterprises within the automotive industry need to increase agility and flexibility in order to stay competitive.Within IT-project management, agility has been a focus since the end of the 1990s. Beneath that the automotive industry has applied several principles on the core value chain, logistics and production. But on the highest strategic level of an enterprise these principles have not been analyzed yet. This research paper is evaluating case studies in order to derive core agile aspects as well as principles. Based on that business strategies within the automotive branch are broken down and compared with these principles. The result is that most of the agile aspects are not yet considered on the highest strategic business levels although they could increase the performance of enterprises within the automotive branch. But they need to be adapted to the specific characteristics

A transmitting and reflecting diffuser for ultraviolet light

    Get PDF
Fabrication of ultraviolet radiation diffusing layer in configuration that uses ultraviolet properties of fused silica condensate is discussed. Construction and operation of the device are described. Diagram of reflecting diffuser to show construction and method of operation is included

    Transmitting and reflecting diffuser

All these insights into scientific evidence concerning of sourcing strategies based on valid thorough literature survey.Value: The research results of this paper can be used by companies within the decision for the importance of modular sourcing as primary sourcing strategy in an automotve company

MEANING AND USAGE OF A CONCEPTUAL ENTERPRISE RISK MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK – A CASE STUDY

    Get PDF
Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) includes processes and methodologies for organizations to manage companies’ risks. Due to an increase in the environmental complexity, a standardized approach of managing risks and opportunities is not only useful, but absolutely essential for business continuation – the way organizations deal with such risks is the key role for success and can be seen in the company’s overall performance. In a previous paper the authors suggested a model for ERM assessment. In order to proof this model, this paper presents a case study of a production company with a working ERM to evaluate the model, based on a real example. The results demonstrate that a suggested model to assess ERM and its performance is practically useable by organizations and might be further extended in future studies

ORGANIZATION PERFORMANCE AND ENTERPRISE RISK MANAGEMENT

    Get PDF
Enterprise risk management (ERM) is an integrated approach to manage the risks of companies. Despite the wide adoption of ERM into companies' organizational processes, there are neither clear standards for ERM nor ground based theories about the outcome of it. This paper gives an overview of scientific research in the topic of ERM by comparing recent academic papers which focus ERM in the context of performance evaluation or effectiveness by categorizing and evaluating each source against its limitations. The limitations are used to develop a unified view on the question of how ERM influences performance of organizations. This also involves aspects of measuring the current status of ERM within companies and the effects of ERM on the other side. This paper shows that there is diversity in scientific literature of how to measure performance in the ERM-context. The authors identify reasons for that and suggest approaches to solve the problem by identifying best-practice approaches and a generic framework on how to use them to improve ERM-assessment in practice as well as researc

Failure of the ERBE scanner instrument aboard NOAA 10 spacecraft and results of failure analysis

    Get PDF
The Earth Radiation Budget Experiment (ERBE) scanner instrument on the NOAA 10 spacecraft malfunctioned on May 22, 1989, after more than 4 years of in-flight operation. After the failure, all instrument operational mode commands were tested and the resulting data analyzed. Details of the tests and analysis of output data are discussed therein. The radiometric and housekeeping data appear to be valid. However, the instrument will not correctly execute operational scan mode commands or the preprogrammed calibration sequences. The data indicate the problem is the result of a failure in the internal address decoding circuity in one of the ROM (read only memory) chips of the instrument computer
