Genomic Constitution of \u3cem\u3eFestulolium\u3c/em\u3e Varieties
Hybrids between species of ryegrass (Lolium) and fescue (Festuca) combine useful agronomical characteristics such as rapid establishment from seed and fodder quality from ryegrass and tolerance against abiotic and biotic stressses from fescue. The superior potential of hybrids has stimulated breeding programs generating so called Festulolium varieties. While the varieties have been evaluated extensively for their agronomic characteristics, little information is publicly available on their genomic constitution. The aim of our study was to analyse genomic constitution of a representative set of commercially available European Festulolium cultivars. To do this, we have employed genomic in situ hybridization (GISH)
The Strangeness Radius and Magnetic Moment of the Nucleon Revisited
We update Jaffe's estimate of the strange isoscalar radius and magnetic
moment of the nucleon. We make use of a recent dispersion--theoretical fit to
the nucleon electromagnetic form factors and an improved description of
symmetry breaking in the vector nonet. We find ~n.m.
and ~fm. The strange formfactor follows
a dipole with a cut--off mass of 1.46~GeV, . These numbers should be considered as upper limits on the
strange vector current matrix--elements in the nucleon.Comment: 8 pp, LaTeX, uses epsf, 1 figure in separate fil
Holographic analysis of diffraction structure factors
We combine the theory of inside-source/inside-detector x-ray fluorescence
holography and Kossel lines/x ray standing waves in kinematic approximation to
directly obtain the phases of the diffraction structure factors. The influence
of Kossel lines and standing waves on holography is also discussed. We obtain
partial phase determination from experimental data obtaining the sign of the
real part of the structure factor for several reciprocal lattice vectors of a
vanadium crystal.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, submitte
Experimental uncertainty and covariance information in EXFOR library
Compilation of experimental uncertainty and covariance information in the EXFOR Library is discussed. Following the presentation of a brief history of information provided in the EXFOR Library, the current EXFOR Formats and their limitations are reviewed. Proposed extensions for neutron-induced reaction cross sections in the fast neutron region and resonance region are also presented.JRC.D.4-Standards for Nuclear Safety, Security and Safeguard
Thermal and electromagnetic properties of 166-Er and 167-Er
The primary gamma-ray spectra of 166-Er and 167-Er are deduced from the
(3-He,alpha gamma) and (3-He,3-He' gamma) reaction, respectively, enabling a
simultaneous extraction of the level density and the gamma-ray strength
function. Entropy, temperature and heat capacity are deduced from the level
density within the micro-canonical and the canonical ensemble, displaying
signals of a phase-like transition from the pair-correlated ground state to an
uncorrelated state at Tc=0.5 MeV. The gamma-ray strength function displays a
bump around E-gamma=3 MeV, interpreted as the pygmy resonance.Comment: 21 pages including 2 tables and 11 figure
Level densities and -strength functions in Sm
The level densities and -strength functions of the weakly deformed
Sm and Sm nuclei have been extracted. The temperature versus
excitation energy curve, derived within the framework of the micro canonical
ensemble, shows structures, which we associate with the break up of Cooper
pairs. The nuclear heat capacity is deduced within the framework of both the
micro canonical and the canonical ensemble. We observe negative heat capacity
in the micro canonical ensemble whereas the canonical heat capacity exhibits an
S-shape as function of temperature, both signals of a phase transition. The
structures in the -strength functions are discussed in terms of the
pygmy resonance and the scissors mode built on exited states. The samarium
results are compared with data for the well deformed Dy,
Er and Yb isotopes and with data from
(n,)-experiments and giant dipole resonance studies.Comment: 12 figure
Pygmy dipole strength close to particle-separation energies - the case of the Mo isotopes
The distribution of electromagnetic dipole strength in 92, 98, 100 Mo has
been investigated by photon scattering using bremsstrahlung from the new ELBE
facility. The experimental data for well separated nuclear resonances indicate
a transition from a regular to a chaotic behaviour above 4 MeV of excitation
energy. As the strength distributions follow a Porter-Thomas distribution much
of the dipole strength is found in weak and in unresolved resonances appearing
as fluctuating cross section. An analysis of this quasi-continuum - here
applied to nuclear resonance fluorescence in a novel way - delivers dipole
strength functions, which are combining smoothly to those obtained from
(g,n)-data. Enhancements at 6.5 MeV and at ~9 MeV are linked to the pygmy
dipole resonances postulated to occur in heavy nuclei.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, proceedings Nuclear Physics in Astrophysics II,

Neutron charge radius and the Dirac equation
We consider the Dirac equation for a finite-size neutron in an external
electric field. We explicitly incorporate Dirac-Pauli form factors into the
Dirac equation. After a non-relativistic reduction, the Darwin-Foldy term is
cancelled by a contribution from the Dirac form factor, so that the only
coefficient of the external field charge density is , i. e. the
root mean square radius associated with the electric Sachs form factor . Our
result is similar to a recent result of Isgur, and reconciles two apparently
conflicting viewpoints about the use of the Dirac equation for the description
of nucleons.Comment: 7 pages, no figures, to appear in Physical Review
