Regional disparities among countries and analysis of reasons of their creation

Regional development and remission of regional disparities belong to the most discussed topics in the European Union. The urgency of solving this question proves the fact, that regional development is one of the key issues of regional policy in the EU. Enormous are especially disparities among the regions of so called old and new EU members as well as among the EU members together. These disparities resulted from activity of several factors. The article is concerned in an analysis and comparison of relevant social economic indicators of chosen countries in the spheres of education, science, research and development, innovations, employment and others, which could influence the living standard of population and sustainable economic growth. The objective of this article is to identify the most serious social economic disparities among the chosen countries and to analyze the main reasons of their creation with help of relevant mathematical and statistical methods.Region, regional disparities, remission, European Union, convergence

Paper is based on theoretical knowledge of current trends in regional development – New Economic Geography and the theory of Learning regions. Paper is primary focused on a large company – located in the Banská Bystrica region – and on a network created by it and their importance for regional development. We explore processes within the Mother Company and its network that are enacted during creation of industrial network which was initiated by the Mother Company. In addition, we also explore importance of such a network for regions; knowledge and information flows within this network and their importance for regional development; innovations and investments to human capital through Mother Company and importance of these activities for region.Region. Teoretické aspekty a spôsoby merania fiškálnej a daňovej kapacity územných samospráv

The fiscal and tax capacity of territorial governments represent important areas of theoretical and practical research in the framework of public finances. The article aims to evaluate and concentrate knowledge in the field of fiscal and tax capacity of local governments and methods of their measurement. This includes a theoretical synthesis of knowledge based on experiences and approaches in the framework of fiscal and tax capacity from different countries. The synthesis of scientific studies showed that differences in the revenue generation of municipalities are related to their fiscal and tax capacity. The diversity of tax bases and the different tax efforts of local governments with established tax powers within the applied tax policies bring about differences in revenue generation and differences in the structure of the revenue base of local governments, which also affects the quality of life of residents. In Europe, there is a clear dominance of the Scandinavian countries in terms of the weight of local government finances on public finances

Biomass local production systems and their managing – alternative to rural development in Slovakia

Local production systems (LPS) focused on biomass usage represent a viable alternative to rural development, which can contribute to solve its socio-economic problems in Slovakia. The main objective of this paper was to propose a general framework for the functioning of biomass LPS in rural areas and to summarize the main points for smooth running of biomass LPS projects aimed at the resource base, method of obtaining energy from biomass, energy production cycle and a dialogue with inhabitants of municipalities where biomass LPS are to be located. Lack of experience in implementing such projects was the root cause of problems in Banská Bystrica region. Therefore, access to information, experiences form other countries and the development of appropriate formal and informal linkages are necessary for knowledge transfer and play an important role in managing biomass LPS

Marketing places, as a specific form of marketing, is one of instruments (in hand of regions), that could be used in advantage for regional development, as well as in advance for decreasing of regional disparities, which are significant, long-lasting and within several indicators deepening in the Slovak republic. Processed topic theoretically defines basic terms - region and regional development, marketing places and implements marketing and its instruments into regional policy with the aim to support regional development and rising of living standard in regions
