Print or Perish? Authors’ Attitudes Toward Electronic-Only Publication of Law Journals
An increasing number of U.S. law journals post at least current issues in freely accessible PDF and (in some cases) HTML formats on their web sites. Yet, perhaps without exception, the journals that make their articles freely available on their websites also continue to publish print issues in the face of declining subscription numbers, and law libraries\u27 growing disinterest in collecting and preserving journals in print. As universities reduce staff, freeze open positions, eliminate salary increases, and cut library budgets, why have law schools continued to subsidize print publication of journals that are accessible in electronic formats? Among the reasons suggested for this is the possible impact on a journals reputation and ability to attract authors if it moved to electronic-only publication. Atmospheric pressure glow discharge for CO2 conversion : model-based exploration of the optimum reactor configuration
We investigate the performance of an atmospheric pressure glow discharge (APGD) reactor for CO2 conversion in three different configurations, through experiments and simulations. The first (basic) configuration utilizes the well-known pin-to-plate design, which offers a limited conversion. The second configuration improves the reactor performance by employing a vortex-flow generator. The third, "confined" configuration is a complete redesign of the reactor, which encloses the discharge in a limited volume, significantly surpassing the conversion rate of the other two designs. Financial literacy and voluntary savings for retirement: novel causal evidence
We utilise recent Household Finance and Consumption Survey microdata to report first causal effects of financial literacy on voluntary private pension schemes participation for a Central and Eastern European (CEE) country, namely Slovakia. Savings for retirement in the supplementary pension schemes are positively associated with financial literacy after controlling for a set of relevant socio-economic variables. One additional correctly answered financial literacy question leads to a 5.6 percentage points increase in the probability of having a voluntary pension savings plan in our ordinary least squares estimates. The causal impact of financial literacy increases to 19.5 percentage points when we address potential endogeneity problems by novel to the literature instrumental variables
Further Parameters Estimation of Neocognitron Neural Network Modification with FFT Convolution
This paper presents further development of an improved version of the neocognitron algorithm introduced by Fukushima. Some comparisons of other symbol recognition methods based on the neocognitron neural network are also performed, which led to the proposal of several modifications — namely, layer dimension adjustment, threshold function and connection Gaussian kernel estimation. The width and height are taken into account independently in order to improve the recognition of patterns of slightly different dimensions. The learning and recognition calculations are performed as FFT convolutions in order to utilize external specialized computing system. Finally, more detailed results of the neocognitron performance evaluation are provided
Detection of SUSY Signals in Stau Neutralino Co-annihilation Region at the LHC
We study the prospects of detecting the signal in the stau neutralino
co-annihilation region at the LHC using tau leptons. The co-annihilation signal
is characterized by the stau and neutralino mass difference (dM) to be 5-15 GeV
to be consistent with the WMAP measurement of the cold dark matter relic
density as well as all other experimental bounds within the minimal
supergravity model. Focusing on tau's from neutralino_2 --> tau stau --> tau
tau neutralino_1 decays in gluino and squark production, we consider inclusive
MET+jet+3tau production, with two tau's above a high E_T threshold and a third
tau above a lower threshold. Two observables, the number of opposite-signed tau
pairs minus the number of like-signed tau pairs and the peak position of the
di-tau invariant mass distribution, allow for the simultaneous determination of
dM and M_gluino. For dM = 9 GeV and M_gluino = 850 GeV with 30 fb^-1 of data,

Effects of post-anneal conditions on the dielectric properties of CaCu3Ti4O12 thin films prepared on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates
High-dielectric-constant CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) thin films were prepared on
Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si(100) substrates by pulsed-laser deposition. The 480 nm thick
polycrystalline films have preferred orientation and show obvious
crystallization on the surface. The temperature-dependence of dielectric
constant and loss of the Pt/CCTO/Pt capacitors is comparable with that of
epitaxial CCTO films grown on oxides substrates. We found that the dielectric
properties are very sensitive to the post-annealing atmosphere and temperature.
Post-annealing in nitrogen atmosphere produces larger low-frequency dielectric
relaxation as the annealing temperature increases, while annealing in oxygen
atmosphere at high temperature suppresses the relaxation but lowers the
dielectric constant. Such results are attributed to the presence of insulating
grain boundary barrier layers.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure
Topological Entropy of Braids on the Torus
A fast method is presented for computing the topological entropy of braids on
the torus. This work is motivated by the need to analyze large braids when
studying two-dimensional flows via the braiding of a large number of particle
trajectories. Our approach is a generalization of Moussafir's technique for
braids on the sphere. Previous methods for computing topological entropies
include the Bestvina--Handel train-track algorithm and matrix representations
of the braid group. However, the Bestvina--Handel algorithm quickly becomes
computationally intractable for large braid words, and matrix methods give only
lower bounds, which are often poor for large braids. Our method is
computationally fast and appears to give exponential convergence towards the
exact entropy. As an illustration we apply our approach to the braiding of both
periodic and aperiodic trajectories in the sine flow. The efficiency of the
method allows us to explore how much extra information about flow entropy is

The Degasperis-Procesi equation as a non-metric Euler equation
In this paper we present a geometric interpretation of the periodic
Degasperis-Procesi equation as the geodesic flow of a right invariant symmetric
linear connection on the diffeomorphism group of the circle. We also show that
for any evolution in the family of -equations there is neither gain nor loss
of the spatial regularity of solutions. This in turn allows us to view the
Degasperis-Procesi and the Camassa-Holm equation as an ODE on the Fr\'echet
