CFD study of section characteristics of Formula Mazda race car wings
A great deal of research has been performed on the aerodynamic characteristics of race cars competing in the major racing series through out the world. Because of the competitive nature of motorsports, this research is usually not published until after it is obsolete. The teams operating at the minor league levels of the sport do not have the funding resources of the major series to perform aerodynamic research; In an effort to provide some information for teams competing in the minor league Formula Mazda race car class, this study was conducted. The Star-CD computation fluid dynamics code was used to perform a laminar simulation on the front and rear wings of a Formula Mazda with different angles of attack and Gurney flap heights. Results are presented graphically showing pressure and velocity distributions
Apprendre à enseigner dans le supérieur : quels modèles pour la construction des compétences des universitaires novices ?
Le métier d’enseignant universitaire s’apprend le plus souvent « sur le tas » (Knight, Tait et Yorke, 2006). Que recouvre précisément cet apprentissage « sur le tas » ? Cet article vise à répondre à cette question en identifiant les pratiques d’apprentissage que les universitaires novices mettent en œuvre pour construire leurs compétences en enseignement. Dans ce but, en 2016, un questionnaire administré à 376 maîtres de conférences en France a permis de relever que les pratiques d’apprentissage de ces derniers sont éclectiques et tendanciellement non-structurées. Ces pratiques pourraient traduire une aspiration à l’autonomie, c’est-à-dire la capacité à prendre en charge la responsabilité de la construction de leurs compétences d’enseignement leur apprentissage à l’enseignement. À l’heure où la formation pédagogique des enseignants-chercheurs de l’université en France relève d’une obligation statutaire (Le Journal officiel de la République française, 2017), les résultats de cette recherche engagent à une réflexion sur une formation pédagogique des universitaires qui prendrait en compte la diversité des pratiques et l’aspiration des novices à l’autonomie.How to teach in academia is most often learnt on-the-job (Knight, Tait et Yorke, 2006). This article aims to identify which learning practices novice academics make use of to acquire their teaching competences in France. In 2016 a survey carried out among 376 novice lecturers showed that novices’ practices are eclectic and mainly informal. These practices are the reflection of the academic novices’ wish to be autonomous. While public authorities have been developing formal training structures targeted at all newly-hired academics (Le Journal officiel de la République française, 2017), this research suggests that the variety of practices should be taken into account
Actors in a "Cheap Comedy": Dissidents in Soviet Psychiatric Hospitals, 1968-1974
This paper examines the Soviet government's hospitalization of political dissidents diagnosed with mental disorders between 1968 and 1974. Relying primarily on memoir accounts produced by the victims of Soviet punitive psychiatry, the purpose of this paper is to explicate the purpose, function, and effectiveness of the Soviet program of committing dissidents to psychiatric institutions. It concludes that this program served primarily to control behavior, rather than suppress ideas or counter-ideologies, embarrassing to the Soviet government. Furthermore, it suggest that in many cases committing dissidents to mental hospitals served the state as a means of negotiating with dissidents and reaching an agreement on what constitutes acceptable behavior, instead of functioning simply as a way to remove them from general society. This paper also argues that some dissidents possessed means of pressuring the state, and that the dialogue between political malcontents and government authorities was not a one sided conversation.Master of Art

Using an introduction to the work and the trajectory of the French writer Antonin Artaud (1896-1948), this paper intends to question the manner the poet’s writingdeals with some long-held notions of the Western culture, such as: body, mind, sensitivity and intellect. Focused on what the poet called “broken language” and “erosion of though” will be possible to understand the relations between this work with preconceived notions of aesthetics and thought.Neste artigo proponho, por meio de uma introdução à obra e ao percurso do escritor francês Antonin Artaud (1896-1948), interrogar de que maneira a escrita do poeta problematiza determinadas noções consolidadas pela cultura ocidental, tais como: corpo, espírito, sensível e intelectivo. Ethereum's Proposer-Builder Separation: Promises and Realities
With Ethereum's transition from Proof-of-Work to Proof-of-Stake in September
2022 came another paradigm shift, the Proposer-Builder Separation (PBS) scheme.
PBS was introduced to decouple the roles of selecting and ordering transactions
in a block (i.e., the builder), from those validating its contents and
proposing the block to the network as the new head of the blockchain (i.e., the
proposer). In this landscape, proposers are the validators in the
Proof-of-Stake consensus protocol who validate and secure the network, while
now relying on specialized block builders for creating blocks with the most
value (e.g., transaction fees) for the proposer. Additionally, relays play a
crucial new role in this ecosystem, acting as mediators between builders and
proposers, being entrusted with the responsibility of transmitting the most
lucrative blocks from the builders to the proposers.
PBS is currently an opt-in protocol (i.e., a proposer can still opt-out and
build their own blocks). In this work, we study it's adoption and show that the
current PBS landscape exhibits significant centralization amongst the builders
and relays. We further explore whether PBS effectively achieves its intended
objectives of enabling hobbyist validators to maximize block profitability and
preventing censorship. Our findings reveal that although PBS grants all
validators the same opportunity to access optimized and competitive blocks, it
tends to stimulate censorship rather than reduce it. Additionally, our analysis
demonstrates that relays do not consistently uphold their commitments and may
prove unreliable. Specifically, there are instances where proposers do not
receive the complete value as initially promised, and the censorship or
filtering capabilities pledged by the relay exhibit significant gaps
